It's a new week here at LTE TV.
Thanks for joining us here at Let's Talk in English.
My name is Katie.
And I hope that you're ready to learn a lot.
We have a new topic for you today - TRAVEL.
It's one of my favorite things to do.
And the title of today's lesson is: A Plane Trip.
A Plane Trip.
What do you bring with you on a plane trip, Nathan?
Well, I always bring a book with me on the plane to read.
I don't take a lot of things.
But it's always good to have a book.
My name is Nathan.
I'm one of your teachers here on LTE TV.
Let's read our Let's Begin together now.
Katie will read it out loud.
But you can read along from your LTE magazine.
Let's begin.
Megan is making a list for her trip.
What can she pack?
Ken helps her think.
She must not forget her passport and plane tickets.
They were expensive!
She can take medicine and some snacks.
The flight is long.
She can pack a neck pillow.
She can also take some e-books and a puzzle book.
Let's learn more about plane trips in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hey, Megan.
What are you doing?
I'm making a list, Ken.
What kind of list?
A list of things for my trip.
Then I can pack well.
Don't forget your passport and plane tickets!
Put those on your list.
I did!
Put medicine on your list, too.
Yes. Sometimes I don't feel well on the plane.
Well, Megan has a great idea.
She's making a list of things that she will need for her trip to Europe.
And Ken is helping her think of things that she will need when she is on the
plane.
Now do you think it's a good idea to make a list like this?
Well, it is a good idea to make a list.
You won't forget what things you'd like to have for your trip.
But I don't usually make a list when I fly on airplanes.
I'm kind of used to flying on airplanes and know what I need.
But Megan says that the list will help her pack well.
Maybe I should try it.
It could help you.
Now Nathan used a key word that Megan also use today.
Let's look at it.
pack.
pack.
If you pack something, you put it into a suitcase or bag so that you can take it
with you on a plane.
Yes. And Megan is going to pack things for her plane trip.
But there are other times that we pack as well.
We pack everything we have when we move to a different home.
That's right, packing to move is not fun.
It can take a lot of time because you have to put everything you own into boxes.
But I know some people who do like packing.
I like to pack when I'm going on a vacation because I know I'm going somewhere
fun.
Do you like to pack, Nathan?
Uh, no. I don't really like it, especially if I'm moving.
But I never really find it fun.
But unpacking can be fun when you get back home, or where you... when you get to
where you want to go.
That's when you take things out of your suitcase or bag.
Yeah, I guess unpacking could be fun.
Now Ken reminds Megan: Don't forget your passport and plane tickets.
And there's a key word there.
forget.
forget.
If you forget something, you don't remember it.
I don't like to forget things.
Oh. Well, no one likes to forget things.
If you forget something, you can say: I forgot.
"Forgot," F-O-R-G-O-T, is the past tense of "forget." Friends, did you ever
forget to study for a test?
That's terrible.
That is terrible.
But it's also terrible when you forget someone's name.
I feel so bad when that happens.
And "forget" is also in our "Use it!" sentence.
Don't forget your (blank).
Like: Don't forget your keys.
And don't forget to move on to the next conversation.
Let's do that now.
(Music).
You can pack some snacks.
But I can't pack water.
No, you can't.
Buy it at the airport.
But it's expensive there.
I know.
But sometimes you get water on the airplane.
That's true. Maybe I can ask for a bottle.
Good idea.
I can pack a neck pillow.
Then I can sleep on the plane.
When you are going to ride on a plane, remember that you might get hungry.
That's why Ken says, "You can pack some snacks." Do you know what a snack is?
Well, don't worry.
It's a key word today.
snack.
snack.
It's just something small to eat.
Yes, a snack is much smaller than a meal.
A snack could be a piece of fruit or a cookie.
Actually, lots of airplanes give you snacks.
Oh, yeah. They might give you some nuts or crackers.
So do you think we really need to pack snacks, Katie?
Well, they are good to have so that you don't have to buy food when you're at
the airport.
If you have to wait a long time, you can eat a snack there.
You're right.
That's good to remember.
Like Megan says, things are expensive at the airport.
And that is another important key word to know today.
expensive.
expensive.
If something is expensive, it costs a lot of money.
It's not cheap.
One expensive thing is a computer.
Those are very expensive.
Cars are also expensive.
But friends, if you know you can get the same thing for less money, you should
try not to buy the expensive one.
But sometimes it is a good idea to get something more expensive because it could
last you longer.
OK, Katie.
I know that things are sometimes expensive at the airport.
And that's what happens when you have no other places to buy from.
But why can't Megan pack water?
Well Nathan, don't you remember that you can't take anything to drink on planes?
They've had that rule for several years now.
Oh, you're right.
People at airports think it might be easy to hide or put something in water...
even something dangerous.
That's right.
So Megan will not pack a bottle of water.
She will ask for a bottle on the plane instead.
But she will pack a neck pillow that will help her sleep.
And a neck pillow is a pillow that you put on your shoulders that you can lay
your head on and go to sleep.
It's very helpful when you have a long flight.
But what else will she bring?
I think we should go to Conversation C and find out.
(Music).
Your flight to Europe is long.
Take a book, too.
You can read on the plane.
I like books. But they're heavy.
E-books aren't too heavy.
Or take a newspaper!
Good idea! I love newspapers.
They are interesting.
You can also take a puzzle book.
Yes! Why didn't I think of that?
At the beginning of Conversation C, Ken says something very important:
Your flight to Europe is long.
Let's look at the key word here.
long.
long.
If something is long, it takes a lot of time to happen.
If you're going far away, you can be on a plane for a long time.
Or sometimes movies can be long, like three hours long.
And I remember some classes in college were long, too.
I had a science class that was much longer than my other classes.
But if you have a long flight or maybe a long drive, you might want to think
about what you will do.
Ken says that Megan can read.
But books are heavy.
You don't want to pack many heavy things for a plane trip.
So she can take e-books.
What are those, Nathan?
Well, they are electronic books that you read on a screen.
So you need something to read them with.
That's right.
I read on my Kindle all the time.
This is an e-reader.
I can have a lot of books without wondering how heavy they are.
Right. I have a Kindle, too.
I think they're very convenient.
You can have many books in one little Kindle.
And now we need to review our key words for today.
Would you start, Katie?
Yes. Here is your first key word.
pack.
pack.
I packed a bag for my trip.
forget.
forget.
I forgot my book. It's at home.
expensive.
expensive.
This cellphone is expensive.
snack.
snack.
This snack is delicious.
long.
long.
The movie is really long.
Good job, friends.
That was some great practice with your key words.
Keep trying at home.
We're going to take a short break now.
But we will be rightback.
