Hello, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
Now it is Saturday, and that means it is time to review.
Are you ready?
Here we go.
Last week we talked a lot about going to the convenience store and the Fourth of
July.
At the beginning of the week, we found out that Ken and Susie really like a new
convenience store.
But then something bad happens at the store.
Do you know what happened?
And what about the Fourth of July?
Rob, Ken and Susie are having a picnic to celebrate the American holiday.
It sounds like so much fun, right?
Well, let's learn more and review the conversations right now.
(Music).
Hi, Ken.
What are you looking for?
Hey, Susie.
I'm looking for batteries.
We don't have any.
Megan can order more today.
But I need batteries now!
Rob's microphone doesn't work.
He needs it for the show!
Go to the new convenience store down the street.
They sell batteries.
Great!
Thanks!
Wow! That convenience store sells everything!
I know!
And things are inexpensive there!
The man at the counter is very helpful, too.
I know.
His name is Tony.
He owns the store.
He has a very nice store.
Yes.
He sells all kinds of things.
He sells pens, candy, flowers...
I know! I was just there!
How late is the store open?
It's open until midnight.
Good.
I'm working late today.
But I get a short break for dinner.
I can go there!
Yes.
Tony sells drinks, sandwiches and other food.
Everything there is good!
Wow, Susie, you must shop at that convenience store a lot.
Almost every day.
Tony knows me well!
Hi, Ken.
You worked late last night.
You look a little tired.
I am.
But I bought coffee before work.
I'll be OK.
That convenience store down the street has the best coffee.
Try one sometime!
I bought dinner there last night.
I like the owner.
Tony is a really nice man.
He gives me a discount sometimes.
That's generous of him.
A few months ago, a thief broke into his store.
That's terrible!
Was Tony OK?
Yes.
The thief came when the store was closed.
He broke a window in the back and got in.
What did he take?
He took a few hundred dollars.
Tony told me.
He also took some things from the store.
That's too bad.
But wait! There's more!
Did the police catch the thief?
Yes, they did!
The thief left his cell phone in the store!
Really?
I can't believe it!
It's true!
The police looked through the phone and found out his name.
That's funny.
I know.
So Tony got his money and things back?
Yes, he did!
Good for him!
The good guy always wins!
(Music).
Ken, are you ready for tomorrow's picnic?
Yes! I'm always ready for good food, Susie!
Me, too!
I love the Fourth of July!
Yes. We can celebrate America's birthday together.
So what would you take to the picnic?
I'll take a watermelon.
Wonderful!
I'll take some sandwiches.
What kind of sandwiches?
Ham and cheese sandwiches.
Do you like those?
Yes, I do!
Great.
I can put them in my picnic basket tomorrow!
I can put some paper plates in there, too.
Good idea.
What will other people take?
Carol will take potato salad.
Rob will take fried chicken.
Delicious! Oh I can take something else.
What?
More food?
No.
I can take some chairs and a blanket!
Good!
Some people can sit on the grass.
Yes.
So what time is the picnic?
It is at 6:30 at Riverside Park.
And then there are fireworks at 9:00.
I love fireworks.
But I also love something else.
What's that?
We don't have work tomorrow.
Rob, what are you doing?
Ken! I'm waiting for you!
I just bought some fried chicken for the picnic and I'm ready to go!
You were going to eat some of the fried chicken!
No, I wasn't.
OK, I was!
The chicken smells so good.
I couldn't wait to taste it!
It does smell really good.
But that chicken is for the picnic.
But I'm hungry now.
Maybe we can each have one piece in the car.
Good idea.
What do you have for the picnic?
A watermelon.
It's in my car.
I'll slice it at the park.
Good.
Watermelon is healthier than fried chicken!
Yes, that's true!
Hey, we should have another picnic next month.
We can have it at Lake George.
That's a great idea!
We can rent boats there, too.
And we can swim!
Perfect!
What else can we do at Lake George?
We can watch fireworks!
During the summer, there are fireworks every Friday night.
That's great!
And we'll see fireworks tonight, too.
And eat a lot of fried chicken!
If you don't eat it all in the car on the way!
Welcome to Let's Talk.
And now here's your host, Rob.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk.
Well, it's summertime.
And summertime is the perfect time for picnics.
And here to tell us all about picnics is Miss Penny Picnic!
Welcome, Penny Picnic!
Thanks, Rob.
I love talking about picnics!
Ha...
So tell us what makes a picnic perfect.
Location is very important.
Find a spot that's not too crowded.
Like at a nice park?
Yes!
Or have your picnic near a lake or a stream, or on a beach.
You like picnics near water.
I do.
But a picnic in the mountains is lovely, too.
Let's talk more about picnics at parks.
Many parks have picnic tables and trash cans.
That's convenient.
What about bugs?
Use lemon or orange peels.
Why?
Bugs don't like those fruits.
Just put the peels near your food, and bugs will stay away.
Any other tips?
Cover your food and drinks as often as you can!
What makes a picnic perfect?
Finding the perfect spot! Choose a pretty place that's not too crowded.
A picnic by a stream might be a good place!
A park can also be a good location.
Parks often have trash cans and picnic tables. Those things are convenient.
But what about bugs?
How can you make them stay away?
Try lemon or orange peels.
And remember to cover your drinks and food!
Hello again, everyone.
I hope you enjoyed reviewing last week's conversations, and I have some
questions for you.
Ready?
Let's go.
Wait! Who are you?
I have never seen you before.
What? My name is Katie.
I'm the new LTE teacher.
Remember, Chris?
We talked about this earlier.
Mm... Oh, oh, right!
Sorry about that.
Well, everyone, I am Chris the Jungle Cafe bird.
And don't you forget it!
Hmm.
I'm sure they won't, Chris.
May I continue now?
Mm... Well, all right.
I'd like to talk more about me, though.
We can do that later.
Right now I need your help.
Can you do that?
Of course.
I am Chris the bird.
I can do anything.
OK.
Sure.
Well, I need you to help me with our conversation reviews.
What?
That doesn't sound too exciting.
But you're the Jungle Cafe bird, and you like to talk to people.
I think you'll enjoy this.
I heard you are great with answers.
Well, that's true, of course.
All right. I'll help you, Katie.
Thanks.
OK. Let's review.
Earlier this week, Ken and Susie found a new convenience store.
But then something happened at the store.
What happened?
Oh! Wow, Katie, that's a tough question.
But lucky for you, I was paying attention.
A thief broke into the convenience store.
You are right.
I knew you could answer that.
Let's try another one.
See if you can get this right.
Are you ready?
Yeah, Katie, I am always ready.
Let's hear it.
OK, Chris.
Where is the picnic Susie, Rob and Ken are going to?
Katie, that is so easy!
They are going to the Riverside Park.
If that's so easy, answer this one next.
What can they rent at Lake George?
Ooh, that's harder.
Mm, oh, oh! They can rent boats at Lake George.
Wow, Chris, you are amazing at this!
That's right.
OK. One last question for you.
I'm ready.
I can answer it.
OK. This is hard.
What does Penny Picnic love talking about?
You can't fool me!
Penny Picnic loves talking about picnics.
You're right, Chris! Great job!
OK, friends, let's take a short break now.
We will be rightback.
