示范教案三 Lesson 51 ●Teaching Aims: 1.Revise the Attributive Clause introduced by “prep.+whom/which”. 2.Learn the Attributive Clause introduced by relative adverbs“when”and “where”. ●Teaching Important Points: Help the Ss to learn to use the Attributive Clause introduced by relative adverbs by doing enough practice. ●Teaching Difficult Points: Help the Ss to know how to choose the right relative pronouns or adverbs when they use an Attributive Clause. ●Teaching Methods: 1.Individual activity to make the Ss work by themselves. 2.Pair work or group work to make every student work in class. ●Teaching Aids: 1.A slide projector 2.Some pictures ●Teaching Procedures: FStep Ⅰ.Greeting T:Hello,boys and girls. Ss:Hello,teacher. T:Sit down,please.Liu Ying,you look very happy today.Can you tell me why? S1:Certainly.Today is my birthday.I have got a present from my parents.It’s a new bicycle. T:Oh,I see.Happy birthday to you,Liu Ying. S1:Thank you. FStep Ⅱ.Revision T: Before we learn the new lesson,let’s have a revision of Lesson 50.Now look at the screen.Complete the passage with verbs in the right forms.This is a passage about Abraham Lincoln.(Wb Lesson 51,Ex.2.Show the passage on the screen.) Answers:became,worked,set,keep,break,broke,lasted,won,joined,set FStep Ⅲ.Introduction (The teacher shows some pictures on the screen.) T:Now,look at the picture.This is a house.Lincoln once lived in it.So we can say:“This is a house in which Lincoln once lived.”(Write on the Bb.)Now look at another picture.This is a post office.Lincoln once worked in it.How can we join the two sentences up? S2:“This is the post office in which Lincoln once worked.”(Write on the Bb.) T:Good.Now look at the third picture.This is a theatre.In the theatre Lincoln was shot.Who can join up the two sentences? S3:I’ll try.“This is the theatre at which Lincoln was shot.” (Write on the Bb.) T:Quite right.In the three sentences,I can use a relative adverb“where”to replace the phrases“in which”or“at which”.That is,“where”can introduce an Attributive Clause.It is used as the adverbial in the clause.Do you understand? Ss:Yes. T:Now look at the sentences on the screen: (Ask some Ss to read the sentences on the screen.) T:In these sentences,we can use the relative adverb “when” instead of the phrases“in which”or“on which”.The word“when” is also used as the adverbial in the clause.Do you understand? Ss:Yes. FStep Ⅳ.Language Study (SB Lesson 51,Part 1.The teacher writes two sentences on the Bb:①He helped his father on the small farm where they lived.②This was a time when there were still slaves in the U.S.A. T:Now look at the first sentence.Will you please point out the Attributive Clause in it? S4:“Where they lived.”(The teacher under-lined the clause.) T:Which word or phrase does it modify? S4:“The small farm.” T:Very good.Now look at the second one.Who’d like to point out the Attributive Clause in this sentence? S5:“When there were still slaves in the U.S.A.”(The teacher underlined the clause.) T:Right.Do you know which word does it modify? S5:I think it’s “a time”. T:Quite right. FStep Ⅴ.Practice (SB Lesson 51,Part 2) T:Now let’s do some practice,using the Attributive Clause.Please look at the two tables in your textbooks.Make as many sentences as possible.For example, I’ll never forget the day when my father was beaten to death.Do you know the meaning of the phrase “beat sb. to death”?(Write it on the Bb.) Ss:No. T:It means:“make sb. die by beating him.”Are you clear? Ss:Yes. T:OK.Now you can work in pairs.(Give the Ss several minutes to prepare,then ask some Ss to say their sentences to the class.) Suggested answers: Table 1: ① I’ll never forget the day when I was sold to the rich farmer. ② This is the house where my father was beaten to death. ③ I’ll never forget the time when we were set free. ④ I often visit the palce where slaves used to be sold. ⑤ I remember the time when slaves used to be sold. ⑥ This is the house where we used to sleep. Table 2: ① The house where my mother worked was nine kilometres away. ② The farm where we pick cotton was quite big. ③ The time when we moved to another state was 14th August. ④ The place where we fought for freedom was in the state of Kentucky. ⑤ The date when we moved to another state was 14th August. ⑥ The time when we fought for freedom was a sad time. ⑦ The farm where my father worked was quite big. FStep Ⅵ.Practice (SB Lesson 51,Part 3) T:When we use an Attributive Clause,how can we choose the proper relative pronouns or adverbs? First of all,we should know which word it modifies and what the word refers to.Second,you must know the function of the relative pronoun or adverb in the clause.That’s more important.Now,look at the screen. (Read the sentences for the Ss.Then explain the use of the relative pronouns and adverbs.) T:In the first sentence,the Attributive Clause modifies the word “place”.“Which” is used as the object in the clause.In the second one,the Attributive Clause also modifies the word “place”,but “where” is used as the adverbial in the clause.Do you know the differences between the two sentences now? Ss:Yes. T:OK.Now look at the third sentence and the fourth one.For the same reason,we use different words“which(that)” and “where” to introduce the two clauses,though the words they modify are the same.Do you understand? Ss:Yes. T:OK.Look at Part 3.Complete these questions with “which”“where”or “when”.Then work in pairs.One asks the questions,the other answers them according to the passage in Lesson 50.Are you clear? Ss:Yes. Suggested answers: 1.Where —Kentucky. 2.When —Yes.It’s February 12th,1809. 3.Where —It’s a small farm. 4.Which —Law. 5.Which —1860. 6.Which —The American Civil War. 7.When —1861. 8.When —Yes.It was April 14th,1865. FStep Ⅶ.Workbook (Wb Lesson 51,Ex.1) T:Now turn to Page 119.Look at Ex.1.Please fill in the blanks with “when”or“where”,and then put the sentences into Chinese.Are you clear? Ss:Yes. T:OK.Work by yourselves.I’ll check the answers in three minutes.
