一、交际用语 1.Thank you for your help.谢谢你的帮助。
这是一句接受人家帮助时常用的交际用语。这种情况下常用的用语还有:
Thanks./Yes,please./That’s very nice of you./That’s very kind.等。
如:
—Can I help you with cooking a meal?
我帮你煮饭好吗?
—Thanks.谢谢。
2.No,thank you.不,谢谢。
这是用来表示不需要别人提供帮助或拒绝别人帮助的一句交际用语。这种情
况下常用的用语还有:
It’s all right,thank you./I can maneage./No,thanks./I can manage it
myself.等。如:
—Would you like me to help you with homework?你做家庭作业要我帮忙吗?
—No,Thanks.I can manage it myself.
不,谢谢。我自己会做。
二、单词和词组
1.manage
该词的名词为management。在表示“尽力做某事”时,后面只接不定式作
宾语,意思与 try有区别。try to do sth.表示尽力做某事,但结果不一定成功;
而manage to do sth.在过去时态中意为“尽力并成功地做了某事”,相当于
Succeed in doing sih,在一般时态中也有 be able to do sth.的意思。如:
He managed to finish the task in time though it was very difficult.虽然这任务
很艰巨,他还是尽力把它及时完成了。
2.show sb.how to do sth.
how to do sth.这个不定式短语相当于一个宾语从句。show sb.后常用这一
短语。如:
The teacher showed us how to do the exper- iment.老师就怎样做这个实验作
了示范。
此外跟 show连用的短语我们还学过:
show sb.sth.或 show sth.to sb.给某人看某物;show sb.around sw.带
领某人参观某地;show sb.out/in送某人出去/领某人进来等。
三、句型
Would you like me to carry it?
我给你拿这东西好吗?
这是主动给别人提供帮助的一个句型。又如:
Would you like me to show you how to use the typewriter?我给你示范一下如
何使用打字机好吗?
类似的常用句型还有:
Can I help you(with that)?
我可以帮你(做这事)吗?

我能帮你干点什么事吗?

一、篇章结构
1.中心思想
Different countries have different customs.Body language is important in
making ourselves understood.Following different customs and us-ing body language
in a correct way will help communicate with people and make the stay in foreign
countries easy and comfortable.
2.段落大意
The whole text can be divided into three parts:
Part 1(Para.1)
The importance of body movements and ex-pressions.
Part 2(Para.2~7)
Different customs in different countries.
Part 3(Para.8)
The importance of using body language in a correct way.
二、单词和词组
1.make oneself understood
句中make作“令、使”解,后面跟过去分词构成复合结构,即“make sb.
/sth.+过去分词”,意思是“使某人/某事被……”。如:
He raised his voice in order to make himself heard.为了使别人听清他的话,
他提高了嗓音。
You should make your views known to ev-erybody.你应该使大家了解你的观
点。
As he didn’t know the native language,he couldn’t make himself
understood.他不懂本地的语言,所以他不能使当地人理解自己的意思。
2.by words
这个短语中的 by意为“靠,用,通过”,表示方法和手段。如:
Shall I tell him the news by letter or by phone?我写信还是打电话告诉他这个
消息呢?
My uncle made a living by working as adoctor.我叔叔靠行医谋生。
注意 by和with都可用来表示“某人如何干某事”,但两者有明显区别。by
着重于动作方法,而with着重于使用的工具。试比较:
The coat is made by hand.
这衣服是手工制作的。
The coat is mended with a needle.
这衣服是针缝补的。
3.accept…as…
这是一个常用搭配,类似的结构还有很多。如:regard…as…/treat…
as…/take…as…/ think of…as…/look on/upon…as…/consider …as…/have…as…。
如:
The nurse regards the children as her own.
这位保育员把这些孩子当作她自己的孩子来看待。
4.follow the customs
follow意为“遵循,听从,仿效”。如:
When you are in a foreign country,youmust follow the customs there.当你在
外国时,你必须遵守当地习俗。
类似的词组有:
follow the doctor’s advice 听从医嘱
follow the rules遵守规则
follow sb.’s example学习某人的榜样
follow old practice 按照老规矩
5.communicate
可用作及物动词,意为“传播,传递”;也可用作不及物动词,意为“互
换,交换,交流(意见,新闻,消息等)”,常与介词with连用。如:
I have learnt how to use sign language to communicate with deaf customers.我
已学会怎样使用哑语和聋哑顾客交流。
They are communicating with us on this matter.他们正就这件事和我们交换
意见。
三、句型
1.It is the custom to shake hands with peoplein the office every morning.
每天早上在办公室里和人握手,这是一种习俗。
这是一个“It is/was+Adj./N.+(forSb.)to do sth.”的句型。句型
中的 it是形式主语,for sb.to do sth.是不定式复合结构作真正的主语,其中
for sb.是不定式的逻辑主语。如:
It is necessary for the students to read Eng-lish every morning.学生们每天早
上朗读英语是必要的。
It is difficult to get a Job in that city.
在那个城市要找一份工作是很难的。
It is good manners for an Arab to standclose to his friend when they are
talking.当阿拉伯人在一起交谈时,相互距离很近是符合礼节的。
2. in parts of Asia you must not sit with your feet pointing at another
person.在亚洲的一些地区,你不可以把脚跷起来对着别人。
句中 with your feet pointing at another per-son是一种“with+复合宾语”的结
构,由“with+名词+现在分词”构成,作伴随状语。如:
The hoy sat in his seat with his eyes looking straight at the blackboard.男孩坐
在座位上,目光直视黑板。
常见的“with+复合宾语”的结构还有:with+名词+介词短语,with+名词+
形容词,with+名词+过去分词等。如:
With a book in his hand,the teacher enteredthe classroom.老师手里拿着一
本书走进了教室。
It is not polite to talk with your mouth full.
嘴里塞满东西时说话是不礼貌的。
He stood there with his body supported bytwo men.他由两个人搀扶着站在那
儿。
四、语法
动词不定式的用法
动词不定式在句中可作主语、表语、宾语、定语、状语、补足语等。作主语时,
常用形式主语形式。作宾语时,当它后面还有补足语时常用形式宾语形式。
It is a great pleasure to see you.
It is difficult to work out the problem.
I think it my duty to help them.
Do you have anything else to say for your- self?
注意不定式在使役动词make,let,have及感官动词
see,watch,notice,observe,lookat,hear,listen to,feel等后面作宾补时,常
省去 to。如:

2.travel abroad在国外旅游
这个短语中的 abroad是副词,所以前面不可加介词。又如:go abroad出国,
study abroad在国外学习
