Unit 5 Why do you do that? 一、教学目标与要求 通过本单元教学,使学生学会使用表示目的的用语,并运用到日常交际中。 复习一般现在时、一般过去时和含有情态动词的被动语态的用法。根据第 20课所 提供的五张图片,写一篇 50词左右的短文,来描写种植西红柿的过程。 二、教学重点与难点 1.重点词汇 burn;percent;fetch;operate;obey;punish;purpose; guide;so that;infact;grow up;be made from;in the past;in order to;break the rule;wash away 2.重要句型 1)I’ll keep the box in the shade so that the sun doesn’t burn the littleplant.2)I’ll water them to stop them getting too dry.3)When it rained,the soil was carriedaway down the hills and into the rivers.4)People had to walk a long way in order to fetchfirewood. 3.语法复习被动语态的用法:l)The programme is operated by villagers.2)A few ofthem can be cut each year for firewood.3)Between 1975 and 1980 more than1.2 milliontrees were planted.4)Young trees cannot be cut down. 4.日常交际用语表示目的(Expressing purposes):1)Water the plants to make themgrow.2)Put the little plants in the shade so that the sun won’t burn them.3)We’ll held ameeting in order to explain the programme. 三、课型 (一)对话课 Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪;并根据第 17页插图中所提供的内容,准备一 盒土、一把种子、一个喷壶等。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.Warm-up question:What do you have to prepare if you want to plant something? 教师可根据学生的回答,板书如下词汇:seed;soil;water;some tools as spades,etc. 准备放课文录音,教师给出听前提问:Why does Mum want to keep the box in theshade? 放录音一至两遍,请学生回答上述问题。 Key:Mum wants to keep the box in the shade so that the sun does not burn the littleplants. 2.再放一次录音,教师随录音内容在前面演示,帮助学生更好地理解对话 内容。利用第 77页练习 1中的问答题,检查学生关于对话的理解情况。再放录音, 学生跟读。组织学生两个人一组练习对话。数分钟后,请几组同学到前面表演。表 演的同学可借助教师的教具。要求学生根据本课对话内容,描写种植西红柿的过 程。教师用投影仪打出如下提示: 1)put in some soil;2)sow the seeds;3)cover the seeds with more soil; 4)keep the boxin the shade;5)put the plants in the earth weeks later;6)water the plants 将首句给出:First put some soil in a box,sow the seeds carefully,and then cover themwith more soil. MOdel: First put some soil in a box,sow the seeds carefully,and then cover them with moresoil.After that keep the box in the shade so that the sun does not burn the little plants.Lat-er,after a few weeks’time put the little plants in the earth.Don’t forget to Water them,sothat the soil will not be too dry. 当堂要求学生完成,如时间允许,可请几位同学朗读自己的短文,教师予 以讲评。 3.启发学生归纳本对话中表示目的的常用语句。(见日常交际用语部分) 4.布置作业 1)预习第 18课;2)完成练习册中所安排的练习。 (二)阅读理解课 Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.检查生词及短语。 2.教师给出读前提问:1)Was it easy for the village people of Tangsa to fetch wood inthe past?How do you know?Please give an example.2)Is the programme of planting treesoperated by men or women in this area?教师给学生数 分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文。之后请同学回答上述问题。 Key:1)It was very difficult for them to do so.They had to walk many kilometres inorder to fetch wood.2)The programme of planting trees is operated by women in this area. 3.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。教师就课文内容提问(可参阅书后练 习册中所列问题),检查学生的理解程度. 4.教师用投影仪打出以下各句,要求学生将这些句子按故事发生的顺序重 新排列: 1)Trees grow thickly on all the hills around the village.2)The village people of Tangsadid not allow strangers to cut down trees.3)People are not allowed to cut down young treesand they should also make sure the cows do not knock the trees down or eat their leaves.4)Trees were cut but none were planted so there were no trees left in or around the villages.5)They began to understand how important the trees were and they saved 90% of the treesin the forest.6)People had to walk many kilometres in order to fetch wood.7)Twice a year,large teams of women plant thousands of trees.8)When it rained the soil was carried awaydown the hills and into the rivers.9)Everyone takes care of the trees;anybody who breaksthe rules is punished.10)Meetings are held in order to explain the forest programme and itis operated by the women of the area.11)Small trees are given to the villagers for free.12)More than 1.2 million trees were planted. Key:4),6),8),2),5),10)11),7),12),3),9),1) 教师可启发学生利用这些句子,作为复述课文的材料。 5.布置作业 1)复述课文;2)完成练习册中所安排的练习。 (三)语言训练课 Ⅰ.教具 投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.教师检查课文复述。 2.教师从本单元词语中选择部分常见词语,配以例句介绍给学生。要求学 生反复练习这些例句,并请同学造句,教师予以讲评订正。 词语:put…into;cover…with something;be covered with something;in the shade;so that;stop from doing something;prevent from doing something;keep from doing;therest(of);in order to;in order that;carry away;cut down; knock down;in the future;inthis way 例句:1)Will you please put this sentence into Chinese?2)Please cover the table withthe cloth.3)Keep in the shade,it’s cooler.4)He climbed higher so that he could get a betterview.5)We stopped him from travelling alone.6)A lot of trees have been planted to preventthe farmland from being washed away.7)The heavy snow kept them from going out.8)Some of the boys climbed the hill,and the rest played ball games.9)I got up early in orderto catch the early bus.10)Please speak louder in order that everybody can hear you clearly.11)When he starts to sing,he just carries you away.12)My father has decided to cut downon his smoking.13)The child was knocked down by a passing car as he crossed the road.14)No one knows what will happen in the future.15)In this way you can improve your spo-ken English. 3.教师用投影仪打出以下表格,组织学生俩人一组,利用课文中所提供的 信息对比 thevillage of Tangsa的过去与现在及变化原因。 Say something about the past and the present of the village of Tangsa and the causes ofthe great changes. 学生先在小组内交流并相互启发补充,然后请学生根据填写的内容,用自 己的语言描述并在班上交流,教师予以讲评。 4.布置作业 1)预习第 6单元;2)完成练习册中安排的练习。 四、难句分析 1.I’ll keep the box in the shade so that the sun doesn’t burn the little plants.我会把盒子放在阴凉处,这样太阳就不会把幼苗晒枯。 句中的“so that”意思是“以便”、“使能够”,后面跟一个表示目的的状 语从句,而且从句的谓语常用“can/could/may/might”构成。例如: I hired a boat so that I could so fishing.我租了条船以便能钓鱼。 Speak clearly so that everybody can understand you.说清楚点以便每个人都 能听懂。 “so that”也可以引导表示结果的状语从句,意思是“因此”。例如: It was too cold,so that we couldn’t work.天太冷了,因此我们无法工作。 He often tells stories that are not true,so that nobody believes him.他常常编 造故事,因此没人相信他。 2.Then I’ll water them to stop the soil getting too dry.然后我会浇她们, 以阻止土壤变得太干。 句中的“stop sb./sth.(form)doing sth.”意思是“阻止……发生”。例 如: The rain stopped me from going to school.大雨使我没能上学。 You must stop him telling the truth.你必须阻止他讲出实情。 3.The rest are left to grow even taller.其他的被留下以便长得更高。 “the rest”意思是“其余的人/事”,当它用作主语时,谓语动词视情况采 用单数或复数形式。例如: These are mine,and the rest are yours.这些是我的,剩下的是你的。 The rest of the apple is left on the table.剩下的苹果被留在桌子上。 4.People had to walk many kilometres in order to fetch wood.人们不得不走 很多公里去取柴火。 1)“in order to”的意思是“为了”、“以便”,表示做某事的目的。它可 以放在句首,也可以放在句中。例如: (1)We had to get up early in order to catch the first bus.为了赶头班车,我 们不得不早起。 (2)In order not to forget it,he wrote it down.为了不忘,他把它记下来。 在第 17课中我们讲了“so that”引导的目的状语从句,注意,如果主句和 从句的主语是一致的,我们可以换成“ in order to”结构。例如: He got up early so that he could catch the first bus.=He got up early in order to catchthe first bus.他早起以便能赶上早班车。 2)“fetch”的意思是“去取来”,相当于“to go and get and bring back”,表示既去取又拿回的两个动作。例如: Please fetch me some chalk from my office.请去我办公室帮我取些粉笔来。 要注意它和“bring,take,carry”的区别。“bring”是“拿来”,“take” 是“拿走”,“carry”是“携带”,无方向性。例如: Please bring your books with you tomorrow.明天请把你们的书带来。 Don’t forget to take your bag when you leave.走时别忘记把书包带走。 I never carry any money with me.我身上从不带钱。
