Unit 23 Rescuing the temple 一、教学目标与要求 在本单元教学中,学生学习并初步掌握非限制性定语从句的用法,并运用 到书面作业中。进一步学习提出建议的表达方式,能较为熟练的提出建议,语言 使用正确。通过对课文的学习,了解保护古迹文物的重要意义,并用自己组织的 语言,描述阿斯旺大坝的概况。完成练习册编排的练习。 二、教学重点与难点 1.重点词汇 flood;figure;rebuild;mark;face(v.);in danger;date from;make agood effort 2.重要句型 figure;rebuild;mark ;face(v.);in danger;date from; make a good ef-fort 3.语法定语从句(5):1)The project,which lasted four years,cost$ 1 billion.2)Bob’s father,who worked on the project,spent four years in Egypt. 4.日常交际用语 提出建议(Making suggestions):1)Well,there are several thingswe could do.2)Maybe we could go shopping this evening.3)I think we should do that an- other day.4)You’d better take a hat.The sun will burn you if you’re not careful. 三、课型 (一)对话课 Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.Warm-up:向学生提出以下问题,由大家讨论:Suppose your family are on holiday.And you are planning a trip somewhere.Tell me what you might discuss. 启发学生热烈讨论,可板书大家提出的问题。如:1)when to go;2)where to go;3)howto get there ;4)how long to spend there ;5)what to do and see there ;6)what to take ;7)what to buy 2.准备放对话录音。借助投影片打出以下听前提问:1)Where are the family spendingtheir holidays?2)Where is the temple located? 放录音一至两遍,请学生回答上述问题,教师予以必要订正。 Key:1)The family are spending their holidays in Egypt.2)The temple is located on theedge of the lake that has been made by the dam. 3.再次放对话录音,学生跟读。将学生分为四人一组练习对话。数分钟后, 请两、三组同学到前面表演。 学生再次默读对话,从对话中找出这一家可能的活动: Ask the students to read the dialogue again and find out possible activities the family doin Aswan: 1)stay in a hotel;2)visit the town of Aswan;3)do some shopping; 4)visit the HighDam;5)take a boat to visit the temple at Abu Simbel;6)take a boat on the River Nile;7)go for a walk round Aswan after the boat trip 4.要求学生将该课对话改写为一篇短文,描写对话中每个人物的打算: 提示语:Say something about the different opinions of the Whites on their plan thatday.The family members are:Mr.White;Mrs.White;Bob and Pippa. 要求学生根据对话,参照老师所给提示,编写短文。 Model: Pippa prefers to visit the town of Aswan.But he doesn’t feel like walking very muchthat day.He’d like to take a boat on the River Nile and he thinks it’s a lovely windy day.They can see Aswan without walking too much. Mrs.White wants to do some shopping,but not during the day.Maybe they could goshopping in the evenings. Mr.White wants to visit the town of Aswan and he thinks that there are plenty of inter-esting places to visit. Bob wants to visit the High Dam.He has read a lot about it.So he wants very much tosee it with his own eyes. 当堂要求学生完成,如时间允许,可请几位同学朗读自己的短文,教师予 以讲评。 5.教师指导学生归纳在本课中有关提出建议的常用语句(见日常交际用语 部分)。为学生设计几个郊游活动,启发同学根据自己想象提出安排: 1)Suppose we are now going to the Ming Tombs(十三陵);say something about yourplan and arrangement. 2)Suppose we’ll go to 勐龙植物园;what are your plans and arrangements? 先在小组讨论,然后班上交流。 6.布置作业 1)预习第 90、91课;2)完成练习册中安排的练习。 (二)阅读理解课(Ⅰ) Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.检查生词及短语。 2.教师通过以下提问导入正课:1)Do you know what China is famous for to the foreign-efs?(the Great Wall,Beijing Roast Duck,etc.)2)And do you know what Egypt is famousfor in the world?(the Pyramids)Yes,you are right.And Egypt is also famous for theAswan High Dam.The Great Wall of China,the Pyranmids of Egypt and the Aswan HighDam are three of the biggest man-made projects in the world.Today we’ll learn something about Aswan Dam. 3.教师给出读前提问:1)When was the Aswan High Dam completed? 2)What happenedto those 53 000 people? 教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文。之后请同学回答上述问题。 Key:1)The Aswan High dam was completed in the year 1970.2)Those people had tomove from their villages because of the building of the High Dam. 4.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。教师就课文内容提问,检查学生的理 解程度(可参阅练习册中所列出的问题) 5.教师用投影仪打出以下表格,学生利用课文中所提供的信息描述阿斯旺 大坝。 Say something about the Aswan High Dam,using the information from the text. 学生先在小组内交流并相互启发、补充,然后请学生在班上交流。 6.布置作业 1)复述本课课文;2)完成练习册中所安排的练习。 阅读理解课(Ⅱ) Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.通过提问,温习第一部分课文内容:1)What are the three of the biggest man-madeprojects in the world which are mentioned in our text?2)Where are they?3)When was theAswan High Dam completed?4)Do you remember how big the High Dam is?5)What are theproblems caused by the building of the High Dam?Please give some examples.6)Can yougive an examplet to show the advantages of building this High Dam? 2.检查第一部分课文复述。 3.准备阅读 The Rescue of Abu Simbel.教师给出读前提问:1)What decision did theengineers make at last?2)How long did the project last and how much money did it cost? 教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文。之后请同学回答上述问题。 Key:1)At last they decided to move the whole temple stone by stone and rebuild itabove the water level of the new lake.2)The project lasted four years and it cost 1 billion USdollars. 4.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。教师就课文内容提问,检查学生的理 解程度: 1)Do you think if there was any other plan to rescue Abu Simble?How do you know?Could you think out some other plan to rescue the temple?Compare yours with the plan theengineers decided to use.2)How many people worked on the project?3)Can you describehow the workers did the job?4)When was the project completed?Was it a success?5)Howcan you get to the temple at Abu Simbel today?6)Do you think it is necessary to spend somuch money on rescuing the temple?Give your opinions. 5.要求学生从不同角度叙述阿布辛波寺庙的拯救工程: A:Suppose you are one of the engineers and you have taken part in the project of rescu-ing Abu Simbel.Describe your experiences. 英文提示(用投影片打出):1)many plans,could not agree with each other;2)no planwas perfect;3)final decision 将首句给出:At that time we had many possible plans and it was difficult for us to agreewith each other.
