(三)疑点 not just…but 过去完成时和一般过去时的异同。 (四)解决办法 1.运用简单易懂的英语对词汇、短语及难句进行解释。 2.结合例句,讲解语言及语法知识。 3.组织学生编演对话,分析课文,然后分组讨论有关美国乡村音乐的知识。 三、课时安排 3课时。 四、学生活动设计 (一)听读练习 (二)口头回答问题及判断正误 (三)朗读并编演对话 (四)分组讨论,课后写作 (五)欣赏音乐 五、教学步骤   THE FIRST PERIOD   Ⅰ.TEACHING AIMS 1.To help the Ss understand the dialogue fully and to improve the students ability of listening and speaking. 2.To learn how to talk about people like some film stars, players and so on. 3.To review the past perfect tense to make the Ss understand the usage of it and use it with high proficiency. Ⅱ .TEACHING STEPS Step 1  present the teaching aims Tell the Ss that in this lesson we are going to learn something about an American singer named John Denver. Let the Ss try to use some useful expressions to talk about their favorite person and review the past perfect tense. Step 2  Preparation 1.The T plays pieces of music which have been prepared, asks the Ss to tell what kinds of music they are, and asks them which they love best and why. (They are pop music, light music, classical music, jazz, rock and American country music.) 2.Tell the Ss today we are going to talk about an American singer called John Denver. Then give them a brief introduction about John Denver. John Denver is an American singer. He doesn't sing pop music, but country music . He is very successful. He has made a lot of records and often broadcasts on the radio and on TV. Many people like to hear him sing. Step 3  Practice for the dialogue 1.Tell the Ss in the dialogue, Jackie and Yang Pei are talking about John Denver, an American country music singer. Ask the Ss to listen to the dialogue with the books closed. 2.Let the Ss judge whether the following statements are true or false according to what they have heard in the dialogue. Do it orally. 1)Jackie is going to see a film by John Denver on Saturday. (False) 2)John Denver is singing at the New York theatre. (False) 3)The music that Denver sings is American country music. (True) 4)Yang Pei isn't going to hear Denver because she doesn't have a ticket. (False) 5)Yang Pei knows a lot about Denver. (False) 6)Most of Denver's songs are written by himself. (True) 7)A program of his music was broadcast on TV last month. (False) 8)Jackie suggests that Yang Pei buy a ticket. (True) 3.Give the Ss srveral minutes to read the dialogue in pairs and finish off the headlines on the blackboard. (See WBb1) 4.Get the Ss to find out some useful daily English expressions in the dialogue, collect their answers and write them on the Bb. (See WBb2)The T should explain some of them if necessary. Examples. 1)Haven't you heard of him? Jackie is using this sentence to express his surprise, because John Denver is so popular. 2)“You'd better…”“ Why not…”“Why don't you…” are all the ways to make suggestions politely. 5.Ask the Ss to make similar dialogues according to the information in Part 2, trying to use the expressions above on the Bb.Get some pairs to read out the dialogue they have made and praise them if they have done a good job. Step 4  Grammar study 1.Allow the Ss a few minutes to read the dialogue in Part 3 in pairs and pick out the sentences in the past perfect tense. 2.Give Ss a brief revision about this tense by providing some examples and supply them with sentences to differ the simple past tense from the past perfect tense. (See WBb3) Step 5 Summary and further practice 1 .Summary Tell the Ss in this period we have learnt something about John Denver, made some dialogues with the expressions in it and reviewed the past perfect tense. 2.Consolidation and further practice 1)Get the Ss to do Ex.3 on page 107 in Wb in pairs. Then ask several pairs to read out their answers to the whole class. 2)If time permits, ask the Ss to make a short passage orally about John Denver and let some of them speak out. The Ss may also do it after class. One possible version: (See WBb 4) Step 6  Homework Finish off Ex. 1 and 2 on page 107 in the Wb and Part 2 and 3 on page 43 to re- view the past perfect tense. Ⅲ . Why don't you…?   3   Pay attention to the underlined part of each sentence. 1.Before he went to college, he had taught himself advanced mathematics. 2.After he had worked in the company for ten years, he wanted to find a new job. 3.When he went back to his hometown, he found that great changes had taken place. 4.The girl told me that she had finished the novel.   4   A Brief Introduction to John Denver   John Denver is a famous American singer. The music he sings is American country music. He is a very successful singer. He has made lots of records and most of his songs are written by himself. Last month they broadcasted a program of his music on the radio and he is going to sing at the New Theatre on Saturday. It will be very popular.   THE SECOND PERIOD   Ⅰ .TEACHING AIMS 1.To make clear some difficult sentences in this passage. 2.To help the Ss get some knowledge about American country music, its development , its subjects and the causes why it has returned. Ⅱ .TEACHING STEPS Step 1  Check the Wb exercises. Step 2  Make the teaching aims known to the class Tell them that in this period we will read a passage about American country music and solve some problems in understanding some of the difficult sentences. Step 3  Presentation 1.Let the Ss listen to a song named “Country Road” of American country music and ask them what they have heard in it. Then collect the information in a list. “country, sky, mountains, wind, tree, road…” 2.Then tell the Ss that American country music is always about something in nature. It's quite different from pop music. Today in this lesson, we'll make a re search in the development and the subjects of American country music. Step 4  Reading comprehension 1.First ask the Ss to divide the whole passage into two parts and sum up the main idea of each part. Suggested answers: (See WBb1) 2.Study Part 1 Allow them a few minutes to find out the subjects of American music in different times. And collect their answers on the Bb. (See WBb2) 3.Ask the Ss to concentrate on Part Two. Allow them some minutes to read paragraph 4,5 and 6, and fill in the following form. ( See WBb3 ) 4.Ask the Ss the questions in detail about the whole passage. Answer them orally. Detailed questions. 1)What has become more and more popular in America in the 1990s? 2)In the past, what did songwriters usually write about? 3)What is the modern value of the U.S.A.? 4) What are the common things for everyone? 5)In the 1950s,what was American music about? 6)Why were the songs full of anger in the 1960s? 7)Who were laughed at in the music? 8) What has happened to country music today? 9) Why is country music a big business? 10) Is country music widely popular? 11) Do singers of country music only come from the U.S. A? 12)What did the singer play when they sang? 13) Why did they play it while singing? 14) Do they now still play the guitar only? 15)Could you say something about the“good old days”? Suggested answers: 1)Country music. 2)The modern values of the USA. 3)Money, success or expensive things to buy. 4)Feeling alone in the modern world, the value of having good friends and so on. 5)Love and money. 6)Because young people were angry with society. 7)The political leaders. 8)It has returned. 9)Because it brings a lot of money. 10)Yes. 11)No. 12)The guitar. 13)It was easy for them to carry a guitar on their travel. 14)No. 15)In the“ good old days” , people thought well of each other. They love life in the open air and they believed the best things in life were free. 5. Explain some difficult sentences. 1)Then in the 1960s songwriters turned to other subjects . = In the 1960s songwriters changed their ideas and they began writing about other subjects . 2) Political leaders were not well thought of. = Political leaders were not respected or supported by people, especially by young people. 3) In “the good old days” . People thought well of each other. = In the past, people respected each other, loved each other and cared about each other. Step 5  Further discussion Question for discussion “For what reason does country music return in America in the 1990s?” Allow the Ss some time to discuss in groups and give them chances to express their ideas. Collect their answers and don't forget to praise them even if their answers may not be perfect. Step 6  Homework 1.Read the passage again. 2.Finish Ex.2, 3 on page 108,Ex.3 on page 110 and Ex.2,3 on page 111. Ⅲ .
