Unit11 Country music 一、教学目标与要求 本单元的教学目标是使学生能较为熟练地运用所学语言,得体地向他人提 出建议和忠告,并对他人的建议和忠告予以正确应答。学习并掌握过去完成时态 的有关用法。根据课文所提供的内容,要求学生初步了解一些有关美国乡村音乐 的基本情况。学生能运用所学语言,描述一两个他们所喜爱的美国乡村歌手。 二、教学重点与难点 1.重点词汇 successful;broadcast;value;success;society;anger; appear;electrical;equipment;remain;make a record;on the radio;think of; make fun of;eat up;pop star 2.重要句型 1)Haven’t you heard of him?2)American country music has becomemore and more popular.3)Then in the 1960s song writers turned to other subjects.4) Politi-cal leaders were not well thought of.5)Singers do not just come from the States but from allover the world.6)Rik made some more records.However,he wasn’t as popular as he hadbeen before.7)Rik made some more records,but he wasn’t as popular as he had been be-fore. 3.语法 过去完成时:1)When I got to the theatre I found that they had sold all thetickets.2)When he had played a few times,more people came to hear him sing.3)They hadnever heard this kind of music before. 4.日常交际用语 劝告和建议(Advice and suggestions):1)You’d better… 2)I thinkyou’d enjoy it.3)I am afraid I am not.4)Why not? 5)Why don’t you…? 三、课型 (一)对话课 Ⅰ.教具 录音机,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.教师通过以下步骤导入本课:向学生提出下列问题:1)Do you like to listen to music?What kind of music do you like best?Why?2)Do you like English songs?Can you tell mesome of the songs you often listen to and the singers you like best?3)What do you often doat weekend? 2.准备放对话录音。借助投影片打出以下听前提问:1)What is Jackie going to do onSaturday evening?2)Where is the famous singer going to perform on Saturday?放录音一至两遍,请学生回答上述问题,教师予以必要订正。 Key:1)Jackie is going to a concert Saturday evening.2)The famous singer is going toperform at the New Theatre on Saturday. 3.再次放对话录音,学生跟读。将学生分为两人一组练习对话。数分钟后, 请两组同学到前面表演。 4.要求学生将该课对话改写为一篇短文。教师可给予必要的提示。 提示语:1)talk about the weekend;2)hear John Denver;3)ask Yang Pei to go to theconcert too 将首句给出:Jackie and Yang Pei are both students in Australia. 要求学生根据对话,参照老师所给提示及首句,编写短文。 Model: Jackie and Yang Pei are both students in Australia.They are now having a talk aboutthe coming weekend.Yang Pei asks Jackie what he is going to do and Jackie tells her that heis going to hear John Denver.Then Jackie tells her something about John Denver,the fa-mous singer of American country music.He wrote a lot of songs himself,and made lots ofrecords.His music is often broadcast on the radio.Finally Jackie asks Yang Pei to buy aticket and he is sure Yang Pei will like his music. 当堂要求学生完成,如时间允许,可请几位同学朗读自己的短文,教师予 以讲评。 5.要求学生根据对话内容和自己所了解的信息,描写 John Denver,简单 介绍这位歌手。 Model: John Denver was a very famous American singer.Most of the songs he sang were writ-ten by himself.He liked singing American country songs.He made a lot of records and wasa very successful singer.Very often we can hear his songs broadcast on the radio.John Den-ver visited China in his lifetime and he gave several concerts.He enjoyed great popularity a-mong the young people in China.Many young people like his music very much.Unfortu-nately John Denver died during an air-crash near San Francisco Bay on October 12,1997.Hewas only 53 years old when he died. 6.布置作业 1)预习 42课;2)完成练习册中安排的练习。 (二)阅读理解课 Ⅰ.教具 录音机,一盒录有美国乡村歌曲的磁带,投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.检查生词及短语。 2.教师拿出事先准备好的磁带,放一首美国乡村歌曲(如:Country Road)。之后,教师通过以下提问导入正课:Do you like this song?Can you sing it?Do you know who sangthis song?Do you want to learn more about American country music?OK.Now let’s readthe passage and answer these questions: 1)Why do we say that American country music has become big business? 2)Why do you think that the first country singers sang songs while playing the guitar? 教师给学生数分钟,要求学生快速阅读课文。之后请同学回答上述问题。 Key:1)Because it brings in between 200 and 400 million dollars a year.2)Because itwas easy for these singers to carry a guitar on their travels. 3.放课文录音,学生跟读一至两遍。教师就课文内容提问,检查学生的理 解程度. 1)When has country music become more and more popular?2)What do American songwriters write about in the 1990s?3)What did American song writers write about in the1950s?4)What did song writers do in the 1960s?5)What do the modern values of the USAmean?6)Can you say something about how popular American country music is today?7)What is needed for large theatres at present? 8)Has country music changed a lot today? Key:1)American country music has become more and more popular during the 1990s.2)American song writers write about things that are common for everyone:feeling alone inthe modern world,the value of having good friends and so on in the 1990s.3)In the 1950sAmerican song writers wrote about other things,for example,love—getting or losing aboyfriend or girlfriend.And they also wrote about money.4)In the 1960s some young peo-ple were angry with society,and they did not think well of political leaders and they oftenmade fun of them.5)The modern values of the USA mean money,success or expensivethings to buy.6)Country music has reached all parts of the United States,from Los Ange-les in the west to New York in the east.And singers do not just come from the States butfrom all over the world.7)A lot of electrical equipment is needed for large theatres.8)Country music today remains much the same as before. 4.教师用投影仪打出以下表格,组织学生俩人一组,利用课文中所提供的 信息填写表格。 Say something about American country music 学生先在小组内交流并相互启发、补充,然后请学生根据填写的内容,用自 己的语言描述美国乡村音乐。 5.布置作业 1)复述课文;2)完成练习册中所安排的练习。 (三)语言训练课 Ⅰ.教具 投影仪。 Ⅱ.课堂教学设计 1.教师检查课文复述。 2.教师从本单元词语中选择部分常见词语,配以例句介绍给学生。要求学 生反复练习这些例句,并请学生造句,教师予以讲评订正。 词语:hear of;make a record;on the radio;turn to;think of;appear; remain;makefun of;eat up; 例句:1)I have never heard of such a thing.2)He is a famous singer and has made a lotof records.3)The president was on the radio yesterday.4)The snow soon turned to rain.5)She always thinks of other people.6)He appeared not to have heard what the teachersaid.7)Later a smile appeared on her face.8)Though the policeman tried hard to get thechildren to talk,they remained silent.9)He always makes fun of his classmates.10)He wasso hungry that he ate up the food. 3.教师可准备录有美国乡村歌曲的磁带,或让学生带来几盒,在课上学习 几首美国乡村歌曲,并介绍这些歌曲产生的年代、背景等。 4.布置作业 1)预习第 12单元;2)完成练习册中安排的练习。 四、难句分析 1.Haven’t you heard of him?难道你没听说过他吗? hear一词除表示“听见”以外,还可以表示“听说、得知”的意思。例如: Have you heard the news?你听到那个消息了吗? I hear that a new film will be on at the cinema.我听说电影院要放映一部新影 片。 hear of与 hear about意思相同。例如: I heard about it two days ago.我两天以前听说此事的。 另外,hear还可以表示“听”。在本单元中 I’m going to hear John Denver.就相当于 I’mgoing to hear John Denver sing.或 I’m going to listen to John Denver’s concert. 2.Why don’t you come on Saturday?你不妨星期六来(听音乐会)。 Why don’t you do sth.?这个句式用来建议对方做某事。在口语中,这个 句式还常常简化为 Why not do sth.?因此,上面课文中的句子也可以说成Why not come on Saturday?意思与 Why don’t you come on Saturday?相同。但是, 当Why not?单独使用时,不表示建议,而是用来询问原因。在本单元中有这样 一段话: —Are you coming on Saturday? —No,I’m afraid I’m not(coming on Saturday). —Why not? 这段话中的Why not?是简化了的问句。相当于Why are you not coming on Saturday? 3.Country music today remains much the same as before.今天的乡村音乐仍 然差不多和以前一样。 在这个句子中,remain的意思是“仍然是”,表示继续保持某种状态。例如 We can remain friends.我们仍是朋友。 另外,remain一词还可以表示“剩下”、“留下”等意义。例如: Of the five sisters only two remain.The rest are dead.姐妹五人中只剩下两 人了,其余的都已去世了。 Tom was told to remain after class.老师让汤姆放学后留下。 4.In“the good old days”people thought well of each other.在“往昔美好 的日子里”,人们互相尊敬。 think well of…是“看重……”,“对……印象好”的意思。在本单元中还有 一个句子是:Political leaders were not well thought of.(人们对政治领袖的看法 不好。)这个句子用的是被动语态。除 think well of以外,还通常用 think highly of,think badly of,think much of,think little of等。例如: We think highly of your plan.我们认为你的计划很好。 They didn’t think much of him as a teacher.他们觉得他是一个不怎么样的 老师。 上述含 think的句式,都是用来表示对某人或某事的评价。 另外,在本单元中还有一个含有 think的句子是: Money was also thought to be important.金钱也被认为是重要的(主题)。 be thought to be,被认为是……。 5.本单元的语法项目是过去完成时的用法。在做本单元练习的时候,要特 别注意动词过去时和过去完成时的区别。动词过去时表示过去发生的动作,而过 去完成时则表示在过去某一时刻之前发生了的动作,因此,我们把动词过去完 成时叫做“过去的过去”。如果在一个句子中有两个过去发生的动作,我们要表 示其中一个动作发生在另一个动作之前,这个动作一般要用过去完成时来表示。 例如: Last night,when we arrived at the theatre,the play had already started.昨天 晚上当我们到剧场时,演出已经开始了。 有时候,动词是否要用过去完成时,需根据上下文来确定。例如: One day Robert met Rik,a pop star.He had seen Rik play once before and had boughtall his records.一天,罗伯特见到了流行歌曲歌星瑞克。他以前曾看过他 的演出,也买了他的所有的录音带。 另外,当我们用 before,after等表示动作发生先后的连接词的时候,两个 先后发生的动作都用过去时来表示,也是可以的。下面两个句子都正确。 After I finished my homework,I went to bed.我做完作业后,就去睡觉了。 After I had finished my homework,I went to bed.
