Welcome to our Saturday Show here on Let's Talk in English.
Our friends at LTE TV are going everywhere this week.
Joe decided that he's going to New York City.
And a lot of our other friends are going to a film festival.
Let's answer some questions about them right now.
(Music).
Hey, Rob, here's some coffee.
Can we talk?
Sure, Joe.
What's on your mind?
Well, I may quit my job here.
Really? Why?
Don't you like your job?
I really like my job!
But my dream job is in New York City.
What kind of job is it?
The job is at an ad agency.
Did you interview for the job?
Yes. And they offered it to me!
When do they want your answer?
By Wednesday!
So what are you thinking?
I like the job. It pays well.
I hope so. New York City is expensive.
Yes. But I can live outside the city.
I can take the train to work.
You can't get to work very fast in New York.
I know.
I can get to my job here in about five minutes.
That's convenient.
I know.
And this job pays well, too.
But the new job is a great one!
Well, make a list of the good and bad things about the new job.
Then you can decide.
So, Joe, did you make a decision?
Yes. It wasn't easy.
I'm going to take the job in New York.
I see.
Well, we'll miss you.
I'll miss you all, too.
I really enjoyed working here.
So you're giving your two weeks' notice?
Yes. The job in New York starts July 15.
And I have to move and find a place to live.
How did you make your decision?
I made a list of good and bad things about the job.
Rob suggested that.
What were some good things?
The job pays well.
The work is new and exciting.
I will have chances to move up in the company.
That's good.
But rent is not cheap in New York City!
I'll pay a lot to live there.
You can live outside the city and ride the train or subway.
I know. I thought of that.
I'm looking for places online.
Well, the job will be a good experience for you.
It will.
I'm young and single.
Now is a good time to try something new.
That's true.
We wish you well.
Please keep in touch.
I will!
Hey, Ken. Is Rob here?
No. He's not here yet.
Oh. He is going to the foreign film festival next week.
I have his tickets.
Why do you have his tickets?
We ordered them together.
Oh. OK.
Are you going to the festival, Ken?
Yes. I'm going with my girlfriend.
She loves foreign films.
Do you like foreign films, Ken?
Not really.
I am only going for my girlfriend.
Why don't you like foreign films?
I don't understand them.
Well, the films are in foreign languages.
I know that.
I can understand the words.
There are subtitles.
But you don't understand the stories.
Right. I don't understand the cultures, either.
I see.
And some of the movies are really boring.
True. But some of them are really interesting.
Maybe.
Where are the films from this year?
They are from around the world.
There are films from Russia, China and a few other countries.
Hmm. Maybe I can read about the films first.
Then I can understand the stories.
Good idea!
Are you ready for tomorrow's show, Rob?
Yes. Mr. Movie and I will discuss next week's film festival.
Wonderful.
I'm excited about the festival.
Me, too.
Do you have tickets to it?
Yes. My husband and I are going together.
So you enjoy foreign films.
Yes, I do. I'm a big fan.
Do you have a favorite one?
I really like Life Is Beautiful.
I know that movie.
It won several awards.
Yes. It's a great film.
When I watch it, I cry.
Then it must be good.
What language is it in?
It's in Italian.
Interesting. I need to watch it sometime.
Yes!
Do you like foreign films?
I do!
One of my favorite foreign movies is 3 Idiots.
3 Idiots?
I don't know that movie.
It's great.
It's a film from India.
It's about the friendship between three students.
Is it funny?
Yes. And the story is great.
When did it come out?
It came out in 2009.
I should rent it sometime.
I have the DVD.
You can borrow it from me.
Great! Thanks, Rob!
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Now do you like foreign films?
Well, Mr. Movie is here to tell us all about next week's foreign film festival.
Please help me welcome Mr. Movie!
Welcome back to the show, Mr. Movie.
It's great to be here, Rob.
Mr. Movie, the foreign film festival starts next week.
Tell us about it.
Movies from around the world will be shown at the festival.
Many of them are getting great reviews.
Excellent.
Are there any we shouldn't miss?
Yes. The film Wadjda has received many positive reviews.
What is Wadjda about?
It's a drama about a girl who wants a bicycle.
But girls aren't supposed to ride bicycles in Saudi Arabia.
It is the first film to be shot in Saudi Arabia.
Really? Wow!
And that's not all.
The director is Saudi Arabia's first female filmmaker.
So it's an important movie.
It is.
You should see it if you get the chance.
At foreign film festivals, movies from around the world are shown.
You can watch dramas and other kinds of movies from different countries.
Often the movies at the festivals are excellent.
A new film this year is Wadjda.
It tells the story of a girl who wants a bicycle.
It is the first film shot in Saudi Arabia, and the director is Saudi Arabia's
first female filmmaker.
The movie has received many positive reviews.
Hi, friends.
I hope you enjoyed reviewing our conversations.
Now it's time to see if you were listening carefully.
Teacher Nathan, I have a question.
You have a question?
That's uh... that's different.
Usually I have the questions, and you have the answers.
Well, I like to change things up sometimes.
OK. So what is your question, Chris?
So Joe is going to take a new job in New York City, right?
That's right.
He decided to take his dream job.
But if Joe goes, then will you go, too?
Chris, do I always have to remind you I am not Joe?
Maybe I look like Joe.
But I'm not Joe, OK?
Our hair is different.
I am teacher Nathan, OK?
Are you sure?
Because you really look like Joe.
You have the same eyes and nose and maybe ears, too.
I am very sure we will all miss Joe.
But that's life, OK?
People come and go in the TV studio.
People find new jobs.
I have another question.
How did Joe make his decision to leave?
Well, Joe made a list of good and bad things about the new job.
And that helped him make his decision.
So there were more good things than bad things for his new dream job?
I guess so.
Joe took the new job and seems to be happy with his decision.
Well, I am sad.
I want to cry.
I like Joe.
Well Chris, you know what?
That reminds me of a question.
What's that?
Well, when Carol watches the foreign film Life Is Beautiful, what does she
usually do?
Well, that's a very sad film.
So my answer would be: She cries.
That's right.
Good guess, Chris.
Carol cries when she watches the movie.
Did you see that foreign film?
Well, no. I... I didn't see that film.
But it must be good.
It won a lot of awards.
It's a sad movie.
Nathan, I think I need to be alone for a while.
But Chris...
Chris.
Um, well, we'll be back after this little break.
Chris is fine, really.
He's OK.
