Welcome, friends.
Thanks for joining us here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
And we have a great lesson for you today.
Our topic is still AROUND TOWN.
And we have part two of our lesson called Do You Like Museums?
Do You Like Museums?
Nathan, what kind of museum do you like?
Well, yesterday we talked about history museums.
And I really like history museums.
They're very interesting.
Hi, everyone.
You can call me Nathan.
That is my name.
I'm a teacher here on LTE TV.
Now let's read Let's Begin out of your LTE magazine.
Katie will read along with you right now.
Let's begin!
Rob likes natural history museums.
He likes dinosaur exhibits.
He learns about plants and animals at natural history museums, too.
Susie visits local museums when she travels.
She is interested in strange museums, too.
Megan likes a big museum in New York City.
She enjoys the ancient art there.
Let's learn more about all these museums in Conversation A.
(Music).
Nice report on the new history museum exhibit, Susie.
Thanks. Go to it. It's great.
I'll go to it.
I like museums.
What kinds of museums?
Well, I like art museums and history museums.
I like natural history museums.
Many of them have exhibits on dinosaurs.
So you like dinosaurs?
Yes. And I like to learn about animals and plants.
We see Susie, Megan and Rob in Conversation A.
Susie did a report on the exhibit at the history museum.
Susie asks what kinds of museums Rob and Megan like.
And what do they tell Susie, Nathan?
Well, Megan likes art and history museums.
But Rob says he likes natural history museums.
That's right.
The natural history museums have exhibits on dinosaurs.
And that's a key word.
dinosaur.
dinosaur.
A dinosaur is a large creature or animal that lived many years ago.
They ate both plants and meat.
There were many different kinds of dinosaurs.
You can see one kind of dinosaur in that picture that was behind us.
Some were very big, and some were very small.
Some dinosaurs walked on two legs like a huge person.
Others walked on four legs like an animal.
And some dinosaurs lived in the water.
And others could fly like a bird.
Now Rob says he likes dinosaurs.
He likes to learn about animals and plants.
I know about some dinosaurs.
But I don't know that much about them.
But Katie, do you like dinosaurs?
Actually, I really like dinosaurs.
I think they're very interesting to learn about.
They're such cool animals.
And they were so big.
That's pretty cool.
But I think that Nathan did say our next key word.
So we should look at it now.
plant.
plant.
A plant is a thing that is alive and has seeds and leaves.
Sometimes plants have flowers on it, too.
Plants are usually green.
But there are many different kinds of plants.
You can grow your own plants.
But lots of plants grow naturally outside, too.
Plants need sunlight and water to live.
If they do not get water, they will not stay alive.
They will die.
You can learn about plants and how they grow and live and their history at
natural history museums.
So let's learn more about museums in Conversation B.
(Music).
When I travel, I always visit local museums.
That's fun.
There are some strange museums.
I know! I'm interested in strange things!
What's the strangest museum you visited?
The Museum of Bad Art in Boston.
There is a museum of bad art?
Yes! And the exhibits are really bad.
I laughed at a lot of them.
You're supposed to. They're bad!
Well, we have learned about art museums, history museums and natural history
museums.
But did you know there are even more museums to learn about?
Really? What other kinds of museums are there?
Like Megan says in Conversation B, there are some strange museums that you can
go to.
And that is a key word.
strange.
strange.
If something is strange, it is hard to understand.
It is different.
We may not know what it is about.
Susie says she visited the Museum of Bad Art.
And that's strange because there are not many museums that have bad art.
Most museums have good art.
If we see something we think is weird, we often say: That's strange.
Or, isn't that strange?
That's right . And Susie says she is interested in strange things.
That's a little strange of her.
And you used the next key word, Katie.
The word is...
interested.
interested.
If you are interested in something, you want to learn more about it.
You like it.
I am interested in books.
I love to read books.
And I'm also interested in flowers.
Honestly, I like to learn more about flowers and how to make them live longer.
And Susie... Well, Susie is interested in strange things.
So she likes strange museums.
Sounds fun.
Nathan, what are you interested in?
Well, I'm interested in movies.
And I'm very interested in writing.
And I'm also interested in travel.
I would like to go a lot of places.
And when you are interested in things, you call those things your interests.
And "interest" is a noun.
People can have a lot of interests.
You can be interested in many different things.
Try asking a friend today: What are you interested in?
It's a great way to start a conversation.
And you can learn more about people and their interests.
I'm interested in learning more.
Let's move on to Conversation C to learn some more.
(Music).
I like to visit famous museums, too.
Like the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City?
Yes. When I go to New York, I always go there.
That's a great museum.
I like all the ancient art there.
That's good.
Why?
Because there are more than two million things in that museum.
You'll be ancient before you see them all!
In this conversation, Megan says she likes the ancient art at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art.
And there is a key word in that sentence.
Let's look at it.
ancient.
ancient.
If something is ancient, it is extremely old.
Ancient things are usually from thousands of years ago or a different time
period.
Scientists study ancient things.
Ancient things can tell us a lot about human history.
And museums are important because they take care of ancient things.
People visit museums to see these things and learn more about ancient history.
And like Susie says, there are more than two million things in the Metropolitan
Museum of Art.
Now we know why Rob visits that museum.
Let's look at the "Use it!":
When I go to New York, I always go there.
Or, when I do homework, I always listen to music.
Nathan, do you want to say a sentence?
Sure.
When I go to the store, I always bring money.
Good job.
OK, I think it's time to review today's key words.
So please say them with us right now.
dinosaur.
dinosaur.
Dinosaurs lived long ago.
plant.
plant.
Those plants have nice, green leaves.
strange.
strange.
Look at this picture. It's very strange.
interested.
interested.
Sam is interested in cars.
ancient.
ancient.
This ancient cup is 3,000 years old.
Good job, friends.
Keep practicing those key words.
You have done great today.
Don't go away yet.
We are going to take a shortbreak.
