Hello, everyone.
This is LTE TV.
And you are watching Let's Talk in English.
My name is Nathan.
I'm glad to see you today.
Today we are continuing our topic.
Our topic is Travel.
And the title of today's lesson is The World's Best Airports.
The World's Best Airports.
Have you been to an interesting airport, Katie?
Well actually, I have.
There is a great Airport in Colorado in America.
There are so many stores there.
I almost spent all my money before I even went on vacation.
Hi, everyone. My name is Katie.
I hope you're excited for this last lesson in our topic of Travel.
So let's get ready for it.
If you take out your LTE magazine and turn to today's Let's Begin, you can
follow along with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Terrence Terminal is an expert on airports.
He can tell which ones are the best.
The best airports win awards!
Some have the best safety.
Some have the best services.
Others have the best activities.
Terrence says there's even an airport with a pool!
Is he kidding? No!
Well, let's find out some more about airports in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you like to fly?
Well, today we're going to talk about some of the world's best airports.
Please help me welcome my guest - Mr. Terrence Terminal!
Terrence, you're an airport expert.
Yes! I visited more than 100 airports around the world.
Which one is the best?
That depends.
Many things help make an airport great!
Like safety?
Yes. But other things matter, too.
Changi Airport in Singapore has the best activities.
It has a swimming pool!
You're kidding!
No! And Hong Kong International Airport has the best restaurants.
Terrence Terminal, or Mr. T, is in the studio with Rob today.
And he tells us lots of interesting information about airports.
That's right, Nathan.
Mr. T says he's visited more than 100 airports, and that many things can make an
airport great.
One thing he says is important is safety.
And that's a key word.
safety.
safety.
Safety is not being in danger or not doing something dangerous.
Safety is very important.
When you climb a mountain or drive a car, it is important to think about safety.
You don't want to get hurt.
Airports need to be safe so people can be inside them for a long time.
Safety is also making sure the planes work well.
And then Mr. T tells Rob the airport in Singapore has a swimming pool in it.
That is amazing!
It is amazing.
But Rob doesn't say that.
He says, "You're kidding!" And that's our next key word.
kid.
kid.
When you kid someone, you joke with them or with that person.
You say things that might not be true to make them laugh.
And when you say to someone "you're kidding," you think they are making a joke.
You do not believe what that person is saying.
Sometimes you say "you're kidding" when you're surprised.
That's why Rob says it to Mr. T.
But now we're not kidding with you.
It's time to go to Conversation B.
Let's do that now.
(Music).
How can you tell which airports are the best?
Millions of passengers answer poll questions about the airports.
We decide from their answers.
Can airports win awards?
Yes! There are awards for being the cleanest or having good services.
Which airport is your favorite?
Chicago O'Hare.
Why is that?
I live in Chicago!
When I arrive at O'Hare, it means I'm home!
Well, Rob asks... Mr. T a question:
How can you tell which airports are the best?
Let's look at the key word in that sentence.
tell.
tell.
If you can tell something, you know it or you recognize it.
Right. So Rob is asking Mr. T how he can know which airports are the best.
You can ask someone: How can you tell something?
That's our "Use It!" sentence.
Try to use it.
How can you tell if the cake is ready to eat?
How can you tell if there is enough food for everyone?
Later, Rob asks if airports can win awards.
And that's the next key word.
award.
award.
An award is a prize given for winning something.
At Studio Classroom, we have an award for who has the cleanest office.
And the conversation says some airports win awards for being the cleanest or
having good services.
Nathan, you used the next key word.
service.
service.
A service is help given by a restaurant, store or public place.
Lots of places have services for their visitors.
At airports, some people get services, like getting on the plane first.
Or the airport may provide another service, like rooms people can sleep in for a
short time.
Restaurants and stores can also provide services, like helping the people who
come in with what they need.
Restaurants usually give good service.
But sometimes they do not.
And you know what?
We have a very special service for you today.
It's called Read It.
On Friday we always have a special part of our show with a video called Read It.
Let's go there now.
Did you know that airports can win awards?
No kidding!
Passengers answer poll questions about airports.
The airports with the best scores win.
There are many different awards, too.
Some airports win awards for good service.
Others win awards for safety.
There are even awards for best restaurants and best shopping!
If an airport has won an award, you can tell it's one of the best.
Katie, did you know that airports can win awards?
You're kidding!
Well, uh, I'm not ... I'm not kidding, Katie.
We just talked about that in the conversation.
Oh, that's right! Silly me.
OK. Well, we find out in the Read It that airports can win many awards.
Passengers answer poll questions about the airport.
Now let's talk about the word "poll." A poll is a study about what people think
about something.
The answers are important because it tells how people feel.
Passengers take a poll, and usually tell what they think is good or bad about
the airport, like its safety or the services it has.
Right. And if an airport wins an award, you can tell it's the best.
You know it is the best.
And you can take a poll about lots of other different things.
Sometimes there are poll questions on store websites.
Websites like to ask poll questions because it gives them an idea of how they
can change or do things better for its customers.
Has that ever happened to you?
You go to a website, and it wants you to answer poll questions.
And remember, "poll" is spelled P-O-L-L.
It's kind of different.
That's some good information.
But Nathan, did you know that it's time to review our key words now?
Already? You're kidding! That was so fast!
I'm not kidding.
I would never kid with you about that.
So let's review our key words.
Say them with us.
OK, the first one is...
safety.
safety.
Think about safety when you buy a car.
kid.
kid.
Jane made this meal? You're kidding!
tell.
tell.
Can you tell what color that sign is?
award.
award.
Tim got an award for being on time.
service.
service.
The hotel won awards for their services.
Wow, that was some great practice.
But don't stop just because we finished reviewing.
We'll be right back to continue theshow.
