Hi, friends.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
We are happy that you joined us today.
My name is Katie.
And I hope you are excited for today's lesson.
Today we will continue to talk about travel.
It's one of my favorite things to do.
And the title of today's lesson is Megan's Trip.
Megan's Trip.
We know she is going to France.
Now Nathan, do you like to travel?
Well, that's a pretty easy question.
I like to travel a lot.
And if I could go somewhere in the world, I would really like to go to Europe.
I've never been there.
Hi, everyone. My name is Nathan.
And I'm excited to finish our lesson about Megan's trip.
But right now we need to read our Let's Begin first.
Katie will read it for you.
But you can find it in your LTE magazine as well.
Let's begin!
Megan and Ken are checking out a website about an airport in London.
This airport is huge!
Megan's flight leaves from Terminal 5.
She must wait four hours.
What can she do?
There are many stores and restaurants.
There's even an art gallery!
Does Megan like art galleries?
She says, "I guess!".
OK let's get into Conversation A.
(Music).
Hi, Ken. Hi, Megan.
You look busy.
Hi, Susie.
I'm planning my trip to France.
Ken is helping me.
Nice!
But this website is about London.
Oh! You're flying through Heathrow.
Yes. I have a long layover there.
How long?
Four hours.
Wow! That is a long layover!
Right. I don't want to be bored!
In Conversation A, we see Ken, Susie and Magan.
Megan says she's planning her trip to France.
Right. She's looking at a website about London because she is flying through the
airport there called Heathrow.
When we say "flying through," we mean she will stop in the airport and change
planes.
And when you stop at an airport to change planes, it's called a layover.
Now layovers are not that fun because you have to stay in the airport waiting
for your next flight.
But sometimes there are fun things to do in the airport.
Airports can be cool and interesting.
And a layover gives you time to get to your next flight.
But let's look at our key word for this conversation.
website or site.
website or site.
A website is a place on the Internet that has information about a subject.
Websites can be about anything.
There are millions of websites on the Internet.
And most of them are helpful.
If you want to know something, find a website.
It's a great place to start.
But now Let's move on to Conversation B.
(Music).
But what can you do at an airport?
Lots of things, actually!
Heathrow is huge!
We're checking out the Heathrow website.
There are more than 80 stores in the airport!
And more than 40 restaurants.
Is four hours enough time?
I'm sure it is.
Let's find your terminal, Megan.
Then we'll look for restaurants and things to do there.
Katie, did you know you can see and do lots of things at airports now?
Actually, I did know that.
I have been to quite a few airports.
And there are always great places to eat.
But I have never been to Heathrow, which is where Megan is going.
Have you ever been there?
Oh, that's the airport in London.
And I have not been to Heathrow.
I've never been to London or to England.
But I hear it's very big.
In our conversation, we find out Heathrow is huge.
And that's a key word.
huge.
huge.
If something is huge, it is extremely, very large.
It is bigger than big.
It is huge.
Countries like America, Canada, Russia or China are huge.
Buildings are huge.
Taipei 101 is huge.
And Heathrow is huge.
It is a hard airport to get through.
But there are lots of things to do.
Right.
Ken says they are checking out the website.
And that's our next key word.
It's a phrase.
check out.
check out.
If you check out something, you visit it or examine it to find out information.
They are looking at the website to find information about the airport.
And you can use this phrase in two different ways.
They are checking out the website.
But you can also say they're checking the website out.
Both can work.
And you can check out movies, clothes or restaurants.
You can check out anything you want to learn more about.
I may want to check out information about my favorite musical group.
Now our "Use it!" sentence is:
Is four hours enough time?
We could also say: Is $5 enough money?
Or, is that water enough for the whole team?
Or, is that enough for you to eat?
You can use it those ways, too.
Yes, there are many ways to use that sentence.
That's why it's our "Use it!" sentence.
Find a way to use it yourself.
OK, friends, I think it's time for Conversation C.
Let's go there now.
(Music).
My flight to France leaves from Terminal 5.
What's there?
Well, there are more than 40 stores.
You can shop.
Great! Are there lots of restaurants, too?
Yes. Do you like art?
I guess. Why?
Terminal 5 has an art gallery!
Wow! You won't be bored at all!
Not at this airport!
Megan says her flight to France leaves from Terminal 5.
And there's a key word in that sentence.
leave.
leave.
To leave means to go away from something.
Her flight leaves from the terminal.
Which means that the plane moves away from the terminal and away from the
airport.
You could also say the bus or train leaves at a certain time.
It will depart at that time.
Or I say I need to leave for work at 7:30.
I need to go away from my home at 7:30 so I can get to work on time.
Hey, Nathan, do you know what all there is to do at Heathrow?
Uh, well, it says that people can shop there.
And there are restaurants, too.
And an art gallery.
Wow! That actually sounds like fun.
Do you like to shop, Nathan?
Um... I guess.
It's not my favorite thing to do.
But there are some things that it's kind of fun to shop for.
Hey, you just said you guess, just like Megan said in our conversation.
And that's our next key word.
guess.
guess.
If you guess something, you think it or you believe it.
Right. I said I guess I like shopping.
I like shopping but it's not my favorite.
In the conversation, Megan says, "I guess" when Ken asks if she likes art.
She likes it.
But it might not be her favorite.
Now Katie, do you like sports on TV?
Uh... I don't... I... I guess I do.
I like to watch tennis.
But I don't like to watch many other sports on TV.
So I guess I like it.
Now let's look at the phrase "art gallery." A gallery is a room or building that
has lots of art.
The art is on display.
And people go to look at the art.
And often they buy it.
That's right.
Wow, it sounds like Heathrow has so many things to do.
I never thought I would want to go to an airport.
But I kind of want to go to Heathrow.
I agree, Nathan.
Heathrow does sound like a lot of fun.
There are so many things to do.
I'm sure that Megan will have fun when she is there for her layover.
But right now I think we need to practice our key words.
Let's say them together right now.
Here's the first one.
website.
site.
website.
site.
Look at this website about birds.
huge.
huge.
This park is huge. Don't get lost!
check out.
check out.
Check out this T-shirt . Isn't it cute?
leave.
leave.
The bus leaves at 9:00 tonight.
guess.
guess.
Do I like Ted? I guess so.
All right. Good job, everyone.
Practice your key words with a friend.
But right now we need to take a little break.
We'll see you again verysoon.
