Hi, everyone.
Thanks for joining us here at LTE TV.
We're happy that you are here today.
My name is Katie.
And I hope you are excited about today's lesson.
Today we are still talking about LIFE, and we will continue with yesterday's
lesson.
The title is Clothes, Clothes, Clothes.
That's a lot of clothes.
Have you enjoyed learning... learning more about clothes, Nathan?
Uh, well, I... I guess so.
There's lots of good and important words to learn about clothes.
Even if it isn't my favorite lesson, but it's still pretty good.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Nathan, and it's good to be with you today.
Now let's get started by reading today's Let's Begin!
You can find it in your magazine.
But Katie will also read it right now.
Let's begin!
Joe asks Carol for some advice about fashion.
Does his tie go with his shirt?
His shirt and tie are both plaid.
Carol is honest and tries to help.
What else does she say?
His shirt isn't the right size.
And his socks are the wrong color!
Well, this will be a fun conversation today.
Let's get started and go to Conversation A.
(Music).
Carol, does my tie look good with my shirt?
Let me see.
Hmm. Is your shirt new?
Yes. But I don't really like it.
Why did you buy it?
I didn't.
My sister gave it to me.
I see.
Well, your shirt is plaid and so is your tie.
I know.
Do they look good together?
Carol and Joe have a lot to talk about.
Joe asks Carol if his tie looks good with his shirt.
Katie, I think there are two key words in that sentence that we should probably
talk about them.
You're right, Nathan.
The first key word is...
tie.
tie.
A tie is a long piece of material that men usually wear.
They wear it under their shirt collar.
And look, Nathan is wearing a tie.
Yes, I am wearing a tie because Katie asked me to.
Now, you tie the top part of a tie into a knot, and then the rest hangs down the
front of your shirt.
Ties are usually worn in offices when people go to work because they look nice;
they look very formal.
Yes. But a lot of people do not like to wear ties because they think they are
uncomfortable.
I don't think I would like to wear a tie to work.
But let's look at our next key word in this conversation now.
shirt.
shirt.
A shirt is a... piece of clothing worn on the top part of your body.
It is different from a T-shirt because it usually has a collar at your neck and
buttons down the front.
That's right.
People wear nice shirts to the office like in our conversation.
Sometimes shirts look different.
Now what kind of shirt is Joe wearing, Katie?
Well, he's wearing a plaid shirt.
Now let's look at that word.
A plaid pattern has many different lines that cross each other.
It can be used as both a noun and an adjective.
So let's try to use it.
You can say: I am wearing a plaid shirt, or: That plaid has lots of colors.
Now last, Joe asks Carol if his shirt and tie look good together.
We say this a lot.
We say clothes and colors look good together.
You can say the shirt looks good with these shoes.
Or those pants do not look good with that shirt.
You can use the phrase in a lot of ways.
Now let's find out what else Carol thinks and go to Conversation B right now.
(Music).
Not really.
The plaid on your tie is too big.
It doesn't look good with your shirt.
Oh. OK.
Thanks for being honest.
Was I too honest?
No. I need a lot of help with fashion.
I give my husband fashion advice.
When his shirt and tie don't look good together, I tell him.
Does he appreciate that?
Yes, he does!
We find out Carol thinks Joe's shirt and tie do not look good together.
Joe could be mad.
But what does Joe say, Katie?
Well, he says, "Thanks for being honest." That's a very good thing to say.
Yes, I think it is good to say.
And we also just heard a key word.
Let's talk about it.
The word is...
honest.
honest.
If someone is honest, it means they do not lie.
They tell the truth.
Lots of times we say people are being honest like in our conversation.
Let's look at that phrase.
When you say someone is being honest, it means they are telling the truth.
It is good to be honest because that means you are not telling a lie.
Sometimes we say someone is being too honest.
If you are being too honest, you can hurt people's feelings.
You have to be careful.
For example, if someone asks you if you like the clothes they're wearing today,
and you don't like them,
you don't have to tell them you do not like their clothes.
That is being too honest.
Yes, we should be careful.
And you should also be careful when you say this word.
Even though it has an "h" at the beginning, it is silent.
It is [on-ist], not [hon-ist], OK?
Now let's continue.
Then Joe says he needs a lot of help with fashion.
That's our next key word.
fashion.
fashion.
When you are talking about clothes, fashion is the kind of clothes that are
popular or that people think look good.
Lots of people like fashion because they like to know what kinds of clothes are
popular.
We say some people have good fashion because they dress well.
Their clothes always look good.
Right.
If you have bad fashion, you do not dress so well.
Your clothes do not always look that good.
Carol says she gives her husband fashion advice.
And hey, I think that's another key word.
Oh, OK.
Let's look at it then.
The word is...
advice.
advice.
If you give someone advice, you tell them your opinion: what you think about
something or what you think they should do.
And Carol says she gives her husband fashion advice.
She tells him what she thinks he should wear or what looks good on him.
You can give people advice about lots of things.
You can tell someone your advice if they tell you about a problem.
So Katie, who do you go to for advice?
Hmm, well, I usually go to my mom or my dad for advice.
They always know what I should do when I have a problem or when I need
something.
But now let's go to Conversation C and see what other advice Carol gives Joe.
(Music).
Can you give me more fashion advice?
Well...
Please!
I need to look good when I meet with people for work.
You're right.
OK, your shirt is too big.
I agree.
My sister gave me the wrong size.
Also, your socks are white, but your pants are black.
That's not good.
I know.
I didn't have any clean black socks!
Well, Joe uses our "Use it!" sentence for today when he says, "I need to look
good when I meet with people for work." So let's try to use it.
I need to look good when I go to my parents' house.
We need to look good when we go to a party.
Or I need to look good when I go to church.
Great job!
Well, Carol tells Joe his shirt is too big.
Why is it too big, Nathan?
Well, Joe says it is too big because his sister gave him the wrong size.
That's right.
Thank you, Nathan.
And you used a key word there.
Let's look at it now.
size.
size.
A size is how big or small something is.
Things can come in big sizes or small sizes.
And clothes come in sizes, too.
We can wear size small, size medium, size large, or even size extra large.
But does anything else come in sizes, Katie?
Yes, actually shoes come in different sizes.
You can ask people: What size shoe do you wear?
If we say something is the wrong size, like in our conversation, we mean that it
does not fit well.
It is too big or too small.
When you buy clothes, you want to make sure you buy them in the right size so
that they look and feel good when you wear them.
Other things come in sizes, too.
When you order a drink at a coffee or tea shop, you can get size small, medium
or large.
There are lots of different sizes for things.
I think now it's time to review our key words.
Let's do that.
Here's our first key word.
tie.
tie.
Dad wears a tie to the office.
shirt.
shirt.
Wear a shirt and tie to your interview.
honest.
honest.
Mia wasn't honest.
She lied.
fashion.
fashion.
Linda likes fashion.
She dresses well.
advice.
advice.
What should I do?
I need advice.
size.
size.
What size shoe do you wear?
That was some great practice, friends.
Say your key words at home.
We are going to take a short breaknow.
