Hello, friends.
We are on LTE TV.
This is Let's Talk in English.
My name is Nathan.
I hope you're ready to learn more about Facebook.
Today's topic is still TECHNOLOGY.
And we have part two of the lesson, Be Smart on Facebook.
Be Smart on Facebook.
Katie, do you think it's important to be smart on Facebook?
Well, yes. Being smart on Facebook or the Internet is always important.
Hi, friends. My name is Katie.
Today's lesson will give you some good tips for using Facebook.
So let's get ready with today's Let's Begin.
You can find it in your LTE magazine and follow along with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Someone complained on the TV station's Facebook page.
They complained about a show.
Should Carol delete the comment?
No, people can share their opinions on the page.
But someone posted a photo of a reporter and called her fat and ugly.
That poor reporter!
Carol should take the photo down.
Well, this sounds interesting.
Let's learn more in Conversation A.
Hey, Rob. Carol needs your help.
She has some questions about the TV station's Facebook page.
What kinds of questions, Megan?
Someone complained on our page about a show.
That's OK. People complain sometimes.
Should we delete the person's comments?
No. People should share their opinions on our Facebook page.
OK. Someone also posted a photo of one of our reporters.
It looks like things are getting crazy at the TV station.
Rob and Megan are talking about some comments on the TV station's Facebook page.
Megan says someone complained about the show.
Then Megan asks if they should delete the comments.
Oh, hey, that's our first key word.
You're right, Katie.
Let's look at it together.
delete.
delete.
If you delete something, it means that you remove all or part of something that
is written.
So if Megan wants to delete the comments on Facebook, it means she wants to
remove them or take them away from the page.
That's right.
And you can delete other things, too.
If you are writing a paper, you can delete words or sentences you do not need.
Or you can delete pictures and files from your computer.
That's right, Katie.
You can delete many things.
But be careful when you delete things.
Sometimes it's hard to get them back.
Then Rob says people should share their opinions on the Facebook page.
If you share something with someone, you tell them something.
If you share your opinions, you tell them your opinion.
Katie, that's a key word, too.
opinion.
opinion.
Your opinion is how you feel about something.
You can have good and bad opinions.
You can have opinions about anything. Right, Katie?
That's right.
Our conversation says people should share their opinions.
This means people should say what they think about the TV station.
And you could also say to people: What do you think about something?
Tell me your opinion.
That's right.
It is a good idea to share your opinions.
Tell a friend your opinion today.
But now let's go to Conversation B.
Which reporter?
Someone posted a picture of Terri Thomas on the station's page.
Terri doesn't look very good in the photo.
People are making fun of it.
That's not nice.
What are people saying about it?
This is one of the comments.
"Terri is too fat to be a reporter.".
People can be so rude.
Terri is not fat!
I know.
Someone else said, "She's ugly!".
Well, this doesn't look very good.
Megan says someone put a picture of Terri the reporter on Facebook, and people
are making fun of it.
Let's look at this phrase - making fun of something or someone.
If you make fun of something, you joke about it.
You say things that are often not nice to make people laugh at it.
So if people are making fun of Terri's picture, they're saying mean things about
her.
And that makes people laugh.
It's not nice to make fun of people.
Then Megan says that someone wrote, "Terri is too fat." Let's look at the first
key word.
fat.
fat.
If someone is fat, it means they weigh too much or they are overweight.
People or animals can be fat.
But it's also not nice to say someone is fat.
Other things can be fat, too.
If a book is very thick, we can say it's a fat book.
Or if I have a bag with a lot of things in it, I can say my bag is fat.
Then Megan says that someone else said Terri was ugly.
And there's another key word.
ugly.
ugly.
If someone or something is ugly, it is not pretty.
People can sometimes be ugly.
But again, it is not nice to call people ugly.
That's right.
Things can be ugly, though.
If the weather is really bad outside, I can say that it is an ugly day outside.
And sometimes I call clothes ugly if I do not like them.
Sometimes we can say art is ugly, too.
I can say that a photograph or painting is ugly if I don't like it.
And now let's move on to Conversation C and learn a few more words.
We should take the photo down.
Carol thinks so, too.
Sometimes my friends post ugly photos of me.
Then they tag me on Facebook.
That happens to me, too.
I really don't like that.
I don't, either.
If it's a terrible photo of me, don't tag me!
Yes! And people shouldn't make rude comments on Facebook, either.
Right. Poor Terri!
In Conversation C, Rob says, "We should take the photo down." There is a key
word phrase in that sentence.
take down.
take down.
You take down something or take something down.
If you take something down, you move something that was put into place.
On the Internet, if you take comments or photos down, you delete them.
You remove them so they're not there anymore.
And no one can see them anymore.
You can also take things down from your walls.
If you like to decorate, sometimes you have to take things down.
Or you can take down something from a high shelf in your house.
Rob says his friends post photos of him on Facebook and then tag him on
Facebook.
What does it mean to tag someone, Nathan?
Oh, if you tag someone on the website, you put that person's name to a photo.
If you look for someone on Facebook, you can look at all the photos they are
tagged in.
People can be in lots of tag photos.
That's right.
But be careful when you're tagged in photos, and be sure they are nice photos.
Well, then Megan says people should not make rude comments on Facebook.
Rob says, "Poor Terri!" There's another key word.
poor.
poor.
If you say "poor someone," you're saying you feel sorry for them because
something bad happened.
Rob says, "Poor Terri!" because people posted mean things about her on Facebook.
That's right.
If someone is really sick, you can say, "Oh, you poor thing," because it is not
good that your friend is sick.
OK. Well, it looks like now it is time to review our key words.
So let's do that now.
The first key word is: delete.
delete.
Delete this picture. I don't need it.
opinion.
opinion.
The idea is bad. That's my opinion.
fat.
fat.
The cat is fat. She eats too much.
ugly.
ugly.
I don't like this ugly photo.
take down.
take down.
I took down my Facebook comment.
poor.
poor.
Heather is really sick. Poor girl!
OK. Good job, friends.
Practice saying your key words with someone else.
Don't go away.
We will be rightback.
