Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
It's Saturday.
And it's time for the Saturday review.
My name is Susie.
Well, this week we talked about a lot of things, didn't we?
We talked about stamps and mailing packages.
We also talked about the subway.
So let's review today's lessons, OK?
And remember, listen very, very carefully.
And try to find the answers to these questions:
Question number one.
Who is Ken sending a package to?
And question number two.
What can Susie do in 10 minutes?
Are you ready? Great!
Well, then listen carefully.
And let's review.
Good morning, Joe.
Good morning, Megan.
What are you looking at?
I'm looking at stamps online.
You can look at stamps online?
Of course!
Look at all these stamps.
You can buy many different kinds.
Wow, there are a lot of stamps.
I like these.
Me, too.
Do you collect stamps?
No, but I like unique stamps.
I mail things with them.
Do you mail a lot of things?
Well, I mail letters.
I also mail cards on holidays and on people's birthdays.
Me, too.
I buy holiday stamps.
They are so cute!
And I have birthday stamps, too.
Special stamps are fun.
But the lines at the post office are so long.
I don't like that.
I don't, either.
But you can print your own postage at home.
You can't print the fun stamps, though.
Oh. Well, that is still convenient.
Yes, it is.
You go online.
You buy your postage.
Then you print it.
That is easy!
I can try it.
Hello, Ken. What are you doing?
Hello, Rob.
I'm sending my brother a gift.
That's a nice gift!
When will you mail the package?
I'll take it to the post office after work.
Are you wrapping it well enough?
Well, I am a little worried about it.
You should wrap it in Bubble Wrap.
Also, I want to be sure my brother gets the gift.
Then register the package.
When the post office delivers it, someone will need to sign for it.
Can anyone sign for the package?
Anyone in the house can.
That's perfect.
My brother works during the day.
But his wife can sign for the package.
Maybe you should buy some insurance, too.
To be safe!
Do I need it?
The post office is pretty careful with things.
It's still a good idea.
If the gift breaks, the post office will pay you for it.
That sounds good.
Thanks for your help!
You're welcome.
You can mail packages for me any time!
Hi, Megan. You're here early today.
I am, Susie.
I got to work really fast today.
Why? Did you drive a different way?
No. I took the subway.
Really? Is there a subway line near your place?
There is now.
A new line just opened this week.
Now I can take the subway to work every day!
I never take the subway.
Why not?
The subway is so convenient.
It's too crowded.
True. A lot of people do ride the subway.
And there's no station near my apartment.
Where is the nearest one?
About six blocks away.
Six blocks isn't too far.
Six blocks is far in the rain!
Well, I like the subway.
Now I can get to work in 20 minutes.
I can drive to work in 10 minutes.
But I save money.
A subway ticket is only a dollar.
I save money, too.
Parking is free at the TV station.
And I walk to work sometimes.
Just not in the rain!
Hi, Rob. You look happy today.
I am, Susie.
I rode the subway to work this morning.
I didn't have to worry about traffic.
So the new subway line is near your apartment, too.
Yes. When I ride the subway, I save money on gas.
I know.
A subway ticket is only one dollar.
Megan told me.
But I can ride the subway for even cheaper than that.
Really? How?
I bought a subway card for $20.
I can use it for a month, and my rides are unlimited.
That's good.
And when I ride the subway, I don't have to watch the traffic.
I can read a book.
How many stops do you ride?
Just four stops.
It's really fast.
Then you can only read a short book!
When I'm in Taipei, I also ride the subway.
It's called the MRT there.
It must be crowded.
It can be.
How much is one ticket?
It depends on the distance.
But people don't buy tickets for the MRT.
What do they buy?
Tokens. Or they buy an MRT card.
They can add money to the card.
That's very convenient!
(Music).
Hello, and welcome to Let's Talk!
Have you ever been on a subway?
Well, today we are going to talk about some of the best subway systems in the
world.
Please help me welcome my guest, Mr. Todd Transport.
Hello, Todd. Welcome to our program.
Thank you, Rob.
Let's talk about subways or mass transit systems.
What are some of the best ones in the world?
Well, one of them is London's system.
It's often called The Tube.
What's special about it?
It's the world's oldest.
It began operation in 1863.
What are some others?
The system in New York City is one of the world's biggest.
It has 468 stations!
I've heard about the Tokyo Metro.
It can be very crowded!
It is. More than 6.2 million passengers ride it every day.
Each station in Tokyo has people pushers.
Really! They push people onto the train?
Yes, they do!
They do it so the train doors can close.
Tell us about another interesting system.
Well, the system in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is the deepest in the world.
One station is 105 meters underground.
There are some very interesting subway systems in the world.
The oldest system is in London.
It has been in operation since 1863.
New York's system is also old, and has more stations than any other.

Did you find the answers to the review questions?
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
I know. I know.
Good, Chris. Please answer this question.
Who is Ken sending a package to?
Who is Ken sending a package to?
To me!
I love packages!
No. Ken is sending a package to his brother, not to you.
But I want a package, too.
Sorry, Chris.
You can't have a package.
But you can ask the next question.
OK.
What can Susie do in 10 minutes?
What can Susie do in 10 minutes?
She can drive to work in 10 minutes.
Ah. You can drive to work in 10 minutes?
Yes. And that is very, very quick.
No, that's very slow.
I can fly to work in 2 minutes.
Wow! That really is quick.
Yes, I fly fast.
But then I need a break.
Oh, a break is a good idea.
Let's take a break right now.
Now? OK.
