Hello, everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Rob.
The weekend is here.
And that means it's time for fun, rest and relaxing.
And it also means it's time to review what we learned in this week's lessons.
Monday was April 22.
April 22 is Earth Day.
It's a day to remind people to take care of our Earth.
And our lesson for the beginning of this week was called Green Houses and Green
Cars.
So it's time for us to review our conversations from this week.
Let's go.
Happy Earth Day, Joe!
Oh, hi, Susie! Happy Earth Day.
Are you going to the LTE TV Earth Day event later today?
Yes. We can help clean up our neighborhood.
I'm glad.
Me, too.
So what are you reading?
I'm reading about a green house.
A green house?
That house isn't green. It's blue.
No. The house isn't the color green.
It's good for the environment.
I know. So how is this house green?
It makes its own power.
Oh, really? How does it do that?
It uses energy from the wind and the sun.
Really? That's fantastic.
The house also saves water.
That's interesting. How?
The house collects rainwater.
Then people can use this water in the house.
Wow. This house really is great for the environment.
And it is also great for people's wallets.
Why?
People can save money on their bills!
Susie! Did you see that new car outside the TV station?
Yes! It's for the TV station's Earth Day event.
It's really cool!
It is! It looks really nice.
And it's an electric car.
It doesn't use gas.
It's really great for the environment.
Actually, that might not be true.
What? Why isn't it true?
Well, you're right.
Electric cars don't use gas.
So the cars create less pollution.
And that's good for the environment.
Yes. But I read a report.
Electric car factories aren't green.
They can create dangerous waste.
Really? I didn't know that.
That's not good.
And that's not all.
Electric cars use electricity.
Is that a bad thing?
It can be.
Creating electricity uses a lot of energy.
And it can make a lot of pollution.
Did you know that?
Really? Creating electricity can make more pollution than driving gas cars?
Yes. So both electric cars and gas cars have problems.
Both can hurt our world.
I see. Thanks for telling me.
I guess biking or walking is still best.
Yes! That's right.
Helping the environment is not easy!
I need a vacation!
Right now?
No. I can't take a vacation right now.
But I can plan one!
When can you take a vacation?
In about four months.
Good. Plan early.
Maybe you can get some good deals.
Yes! I'm looking forward to my vacation!
I love travel!
So do I!
I can do so many things on vacation.
I know.
You can go to cities and visit museums.
Or I can go to the beach.
Yes. You can also eat good food.
Or take a class and learn something.
Or I can walk or bike or climb mountains!
How can you decide?
I don't know!
What month is four months from now?
August. That is a good time for the beach.
Or the mountains.
But many people travel in August.
Places are crowded.
Right. So I won't visit famous sights.
Consider the weather and your interests.
Then decide.
I can't forget one thing.
What's that?
Money! Travel can be expensive!
Come in!
Hi, Carol.
I want to talk to you about my vacation.
OK. When do you want to take one?
In August.
I have one week of vacation time.
You do.
Where do you want to go?
Maybe I'll go to an island and relax on the beach.
That would be nice.
A week is enough time to do that.
Or I might do something else.
I don't know.
You could go on a tour.
Those are fun.
No. I like to travel alone or with friends.
You could take a cruise.
No thanks.
I like to cook.
So I thought about doing that on vacation.
Learn to cook on vacation?
That's an excellent idea.
Yes. Several countries offer cooking vacations.
That sounds fun.
Yes. But I also thought about a volunteer vacation.
What's that?
On volunteer vacations, you go somewhere and help people.
Oh! You can do volunteer work like teach children or build houses.
Right.
What a wonderful idea!
Yes. But to do that, I'd like one thing.
What's that?
A longer vacation!
(Music).
Hello, and welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you like to travel?
Well, today our guest has some travel tips for all of you.
Please help me welcome Mr. Todd Traveler!
Welcome to our program, Todd.
Thank you, Rob.
What should people remember as they plan a trip?
First, plan three or more months ahead.
Then you have time to search for the best available travel deals.
Yes. Everyone wants to save money.
Check your travel dates.
They should match a good time to travel to your destination.
Yes. If you don't like cold, rainy weather, don't go to England in winter!
Right.
What else?
If you plan to travel overseas, check your passport.
For what?
To be sure it's valid for at least six months.
If it's not, you can't travel.
Check to see if you need a visa, too.
Good idea.
What else?
Learn about your destination.
Write down places you want to see and things you want to do.
Then make sure you have enough time!
That's right!
When you want to plan a trip, you should do a few things.

Hello, there.
Now that you've listened to our lessons again, it's time to see how much you
remember.
But first, let's see if our friend Chris is home.
Hello, Chris.
Knock, knock.
Chris! Chris, are you home?
Chris? Hello?
I guess he's not home.
Hi, Rob!
You're here!
Yes. Hello, Chris.
Where were you?
Oh, I'm sorry.
I was planning my vacation for this year.
You were, huh?
So what will you do on vacation this year?
I don't know.
There are so many choices.
There are many choices.
Why don't we review our lessons from this week, and maybe they will give you
some ideas.
OK. What's the first question?
OK, the first question comes from our lesson, Green Houses and Green Cars.
Joe was reading about a green house.
Yes. The house uh... uh... is good for the environment.
That's right.
Now here's the question.
How does the green house save water?
Good question, Rob.
I know the answer.
The green house saves water by collecting rainwater.
That's right.
Then people can use the water inside the house.
That is fantastic.
OK, question number two.
When does Megan want to take a vacation?
That's easy.
Megan wants to take a vacation in August.
Very good!
So when are you going to take your vacation, Chris?
I think I will take mine in August.
That's a good time for a vacation.
That's true.
Well, remember some of the tips we talked about on Let's Talk this week.
I will. Those are great tips.
So how will you get to wherever you're going?
I'm going to fly.
You mean in an airplane?
No, Rob. I'm going to fly with my wings.
I'm a bird, remember?
Right.
OK friends, it's time to take a quick break.
We'll see you in a few minutes.
