Hi, everyone.
Welcome to another day at Let's Talk in English.
And we are glad that you are here.
My name is Nathan.
And we're going to continue yesterday's topic.
So today's topic again is SMALL TALK.
And the title of our lesson is A Reporter's Job.
Katie, what do you think a reporter's job would be like?
Well, I used to work with a lot of reporters.
And they were so busy.
They were always talking to people.
I see.
Hi, everyone. My name is Katie.
I'm so glad you're here again today.
Let's get ready for today's lesson with our Let's Begin reading.
Nathan?
Let's Begin.
Rob interviews Rita Reporter.
One day she may report on a war.
Another day, she may interview a famous person.
Some famous people are nice, but others refuse to answer questions.
Rita doesn't like to interview people during difficult times.
For example, if someone dies, she has to interview a relative.
OK. Thank you, Nathan.
I'm excited to find out more in Conversation A.
I hope you are, too.
(Music).
Hello, everyone, welcome to Let's Talk!
Today I am very excited to have a famous TV reporter here with us.
Please help me welcome Miss Rita Reporter!
Welcome to our program, Rita.
It's exciting to interview a famous reporter!
Thank you, Rob.
I'm glad to be here.
What's the best thing about being a TV reporter?
Every day is different.
One day I may report on a war.
The next, I may interview a famous person.
Do you enjoy interviewing famous people?
Usually. Some of them are very nice.
But others refuse to answer my questions.
In Conversation A, we see two people.
Rob has a guest on his show.
Katie, can you tell our friends who Rob's guest is?
Sure. Rob's guest is Rita the reporter.
She's a TV reporter.
That's so cool!
That is cool.
Now Rita says that the best thing about being a TV reporter is that... is every
day is different.
She does lots of interesting things.
And what does she say that she does, Katie?
Well, Rita says that some days she reports on wars; other days she interviews
famous people.
Right. And you just used one of our key words.
Let's look at the first one together.
report.
report.
Now when you report on something, it means that you tell people what happened.
For example, if you are a sports reporter, you talk about which teams were
playing, who won the game, which players played the best, and maybe how many
points they scored.
A reporter reports on a lot of information so that people know what happened.
That's right.
So let's use this in a sentence.
Kayla reports the news on TV every night at 10:00.
Rita says that sometimes she reports on wars.
And that's our next key word.
war.
war.
A war is when two or more countries are fighting.
Right. War is a serious problem in the world because many different people are
part of wars.
So let's use this in a sentence.
The war in that part of the world is terrible.
The war has been going on for over five years.
Thanks, Katie.
Now in the conversation, Rita says that she likes to interview people.
But she says that some people refuse to answer questions.
And there's our last key word.
refuse.
refuse.
If you refuse to do something, it means that you're asked to do something that
you do not want to do, and you won't do.
Uh, can you use this in a sentence, Katie?
No, I can't.
I refuse to make a sentence.
Well, are you sure?
Nathan, I... I just used that key word.
But now I refuse to let you stop learning.
So let's move on to Conversation B.
What is the hardest part of your job?
For me, it's interviewing someone during difficult times.
Like what?
Well, maybe someone has died in an accident.
I have to ask a relative for an interview.
That is hard.
It's the worst part of my job.
But I love traveling and meeting interesting people.
Those are two great things about being a TV reporter!
Welcome back, friends.
In Conversation B, Rob continues to talk to Rita.
He asks her about the hardest part of her job.
Nathan, what does Rita say is the hardest part of her job?
Well, Rita says that the hardest part of her job is interviewing people during
difficult times,
like when someone uh, has a friend that has died or uh, their family member
might have died.
Let's look at the word in this interview.
"Interview" means to ask someone questions to get information from that person.
Reporters interview people a lot.
That's right. Rita says she interviews people during difficult times.
But let's look at our first key word.
difficult.
difficult.
When we say something is difficult, we mean that it is hard.
If times are difficult, it means that there's a lot going on in a person's life
that is hard.
That's right.
But other things can be difficult, too.
School can be difficult.
Let's use "difficult" in a sentence.
Ashley's test was difficult.
She thinks she did badly on it.
Or, my class is so difficult.
I have to study a lot.
Katie, what do you think is difficult?
Well, I think learning languages is difficult.
It takes me a long time.
Now Rita says it is hard to interview people during difficult times, like when
someone has died.
And there is our last key word.
die.
When someone or something dies, that means the person or thing is no longer
living.
It is sad when things die because that means we don't get to see them anymore.
Right. Now let's try to use this in a sentence.
Adam's bird died.
He is very sad right now.
OK, that is the end of the interview of Rob with Rita.
But we're going to move on to our Read It.
TV reporters have an exciting job.
Reporters meet interesting people and do different things each day.
One day they may report on a war.
The next day, they might interview a famous person.
That can be good and bad.
Some famous people are nice; others refuse to answer questions.
Reporters must also ask for interviews during difficult times.
When someone has died, it's hard to interview a relative.
Hello, again.
Well, in our Read It, we find out more about how exciting a reporter's job is.
Their job is interesting because they get to interview interesting and fun
people, and usually do something different every day.
That's right.
And when reporters interview someone, they ask that person lots of questions
that they can tell other people about them.
Right. The first sentence of our Read It says TV reporters have an exciting job.
And if a person's job is exciting, we mean that it is interesting and they do
cool things that many people can't do.
They usually do not work in an office all day long.
Can other jobs be exciting?
I think so.
Teachers have an exciting job.
They get to help students learn every day.
Yeah, sometimes I do think that my job is exciting.
Well, I think that it's now time that we move on to our key word review for
today.
report.
report.
Dan reports the sports on TV.
war.
war.
A war is a serious problem.
refuse.
refuse.
Don refused to go to bed.
difficult.
difficult.
I can't do the math problem.
It's difficult.
die.
die.
Tom's dogs died.
He's very sad.
OK, great job, friends.
I hope you practice with us.
Practicing the key words is important.
So don't forget to do that at home or with your friends.
We'll be rightback.
