Oh, hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
I was just doing some exercises while I was waiting for the show to start.
Do you like to exercise?
We learned this week that regular exercise helps people stay healthy.
People who exercise may not develop serious illnesses.
And exercise is also good for stress because it helps people to relax.
All right, so we learned a lot this week.
It's time now to review.
Where do you buy your furniture, Susie?
Many places.
Why do you ask?
I need more furniture in my living room.
I only have one chair.
You do need more furniture!
Yes! I moved here in December.
But I couldn't buy furniture then.
Can you buy it now?
Yes, I have money!
Then go shopping!
I want a nice sofa.
Yes. A sofa is important in a living room.
My living room is big.
I can get a big sofa.
And buy more chairs.
Get some small tables, too!
Yes. Then I can put my things on the tables.
Where are your things now?
They are on the floor!
That's not good.
Do you have a TV?
Yes. It's on the floor, too!
Then you need something for your TV!
I know. I want a long table with drawers.
Good idea.
Do you need a desk, too?
No. I have a desk in my bedroom.
It's next to my bed.
Oh, good. You have a bed.
You don't sleep on the floor!
My friend is selling his old living room furniture.
Would Megan want it?
I don't think so.
She wants new furniture.
Secondhand furniture is cheaper.
Yes, but sometimes it's broken or has problems.
That's true.
But sometimes it's fine!
You can find inexpensive new furniture, too.
Yes. There are a few great discount furniture stores in our city.
Some of the discount furniture stores have really great furniture.
They have cool curtains and other things, too.
And the prices are really low!
Megan can shop at those places and save money.
Yes, and at some places, she can ask for a lower price.
Megan will like that.
She can also ask for free things.
Like what?
If you buy a set of furniture, some stores will often give you things.
How do you know that?
I bought a bedroom set before, and I asked for two free lamps.
And I got them!
Great! I'll tell Megan.
Hey, don't warehouse stores also sell furniture?
Yes! She can get some good prices there, too.
Joe, did your parents enjoy their visit last month?
Did you have fun with them?
Yes! We had a good visit.
We went to a lot of great restaurants!
That's good!
Did you walk a lot, too?
Yes. We walked to many places in the city.
And I learned something.
What did you learn?
I need more exercise.
Why do you need more exercise?
Because I got really tired!
Some days we walked a little.
Other days we walked a lot.
But I was really tired every day!
Were you out of breath?
Yes! We climbed a lot of stairs.
I was out of breath then.
So you don't exercise often?
No. But I really like sports.
Then play sports more often.
Exercise can give you more energy.
I know. That's true.
Play basketball with Ken.
Or try another sport.
Good idea.
How about you, Carol?
Do you exercise?
I walk.
And I'm in a dance club, too.
Hey, you can come to my club and dance with us!
No thanks!
I'll just play more basketball!
So how do you feel today, Joe?
Did you like our basketball game last night?
I'm feeling good.
I have more energy today!
You're not sore?
No. I'm OK.
I feel fine.
That's good.
You can play basketball with my friends and me every week.
Maybe I will.
I want to try other sports, too.
I should also run or hike.
I know a good place to hike.
It's not far from our apartment.
Really? That's great.
So why do you want to exercise so much?
I want to have more energy.
I want to feel stronger.
I understand.
Didn't you play sports in high school?
Yes, but later I got lazy and stopped exercising.
Well, it's a good idea to start again!
Exercise also helps you sleep better.
That's true.
So is better sleep another reason for exercising?
Sure, but there's one more.
My grandfather is having heart problems.
He's in the hospital now.
Oh, no. I'm sorry to hear that.
Thanks.
I don't want to have heart problems.
Regular exercise can help.
That's right. Good for you, Joe.
(Music).
Hello, and welcome to Let's Talk!
Now we all know it's important to exercise.
But do you know why?
Well, our guest today is here to help us understand more about exercising.
Please help me welcome Miss Felicia Fit.
Welcome to the show, Miss Fit!
You're here to tell us how important exercise is.
That's right.
People shouldn't exercise just to lose weight.
Exercise is an important part of a healthy life.
What does exercise do for you?
It helps keep your whole body fit.
And if you exercise, you may not develop serious illnesses.
What else does exercise do for you?
It improves your mood.
If you have stress in your life, exercise helps you relax and feel happier.
Why is that?
Because when you exercise, your brain makes chemicals.
Those chemicals make you feel better.
And what's the most important reason to exercise, Miss Fit?
If you get regular exercise, you live longer and feel better!
Why do you exercise?
Do you exercise to lose weight?
That shouldn't be the only reason.
You should get regular exercise.
Exercise keeps you fit.
And fit people may not develop as many serious illnesses.
Exercise also puts you in a good mood.
Do you have stress at school or at work?
Then exercise can help you relax.
How?
Exercise makes the brain create chemicals.
The chemicals improve your mood.
Well hello, everyone.
Did you enjoy listening to our conversations again?
I hope so.
Now it's time to see if you were listening carefully.
Our good friend Chris is here to help us answer some questions about this week's
conversations.
Say hi, Chris.
Hi, everybody.
OK, Chris, are you ready?
I'm always ready, Rob.
Great!
Well, this week I talked to Susie about furniture stores.
Yes. I remember.
OK. Well, I told Susie I got two free things when I bought a bedroom set.
Do you remember what they were?
Yes. You got two free lamps when you bought your bedroom set.
That's right.
Great job, Chris!
I was listening carefully.
Were you?
Let's see.
I have one more question for you.
All right. Joe and Carol talked about exercise this week.
Yes. I remember.
So what's the question?
Well, how does Carol exercise?
Carol walks.
And she's in a dance club, too.
That's right.
Do you dance, Chris?
Me? No, I don't dance.
You don't?
Why not?
I am a bird.
Birds don't dance.
Sure they do.
Haven't you heard of the chicken dance?
The... the what?
You know, the chicken dance.
(Music).
No, no, no, I don't know that dance.
And I don't want to know that dance.
Oh, come on, Chris.
It's fun.
I'll teach you.
Uh, but first, friends, why don't you go take a break.
Ready?
(Music).
