Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Nathan.
We have some great words and sentences to teach you today.
Now today we are still talking about our topic, HEALTH.
And today's lesson is called More Reasons to Exercise.
Katie, it looks like we'll be learning some more reasons to exercise today.
That's right.
I hope it helps me start exercising again.
Hi, my name is Katie.
I wonder what guest will be on Rob's show today.
But first, let's read today's Let's Begin.
This will help you get ready for today's lesson.
Let's Begin.
Why should people exercise?
Rob and a guest talk about how exercise helps people's bodies.
It keeps people fit.
Also, people who exercise may not develop serious illnesses.
Exercise is also good for stress because it helps people to relax.
OK, let's go to Rob in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hello, and welcome to Let's Talk!
Now we all know it's important to exercise.
But do you know why?
Well, our guest today is here to help us understand more about exercising.
Please help me welcome Miss Felicia Fit.
Welcome to the show, Miss Fit!
You're here to tell us how important exercise is.
That's right.
People shouldn't exercise just to lose weight.
Exercise is an important part of a healthy life.
What does exercise do for you?
It helps keep your whole body fit.
And if you exercise, you may not develop serious illnesses.
The name of Rob's guest this week is Felicia Fit.
She wants to tell us how important exercise is.
People often exercise so that they can lose weight.
But Felicia Fit says people shouldn't exercise just to lose weight.
Now what does she mean, Katie?
She means that there are other reasons to exercise, too.
This is because exercise is important for a healthy life, not just a healthy
weight.
So Rob asks Felicia, "What does exercise do for you?" It sounds like he's only
asking about Felicia Fit, but he's really asking about any person.
Here's another example.
Katie, how does vitamin C help you?
Well, vitamin C keeps you from getting sick.
Now, I didn't say it keeps me from getting sick.
I said "you" because I mean all people.
Now let's get back to the conversation.
Felicia says it keeps your whole body fit.
And that's our first key word for today.
Do you know that word?
The word is: fit.
fit.
Fit is a lot like saying "healthy." Now how could we use this word, Katie?
Well, you could say she exercises every day, so she's very fit.
Or, getting fit may mean a lot of hard work.
It isn't always easy to get fit and stay fit.
Those are good points.
Felicia Fit also says that exercise can stop you from developing an illness.
It looks like we have a big key word today.
And that word is: develop.
develop.
Let's look at this word together.
Develop means to change or grow.
If an illness or sickness develops, it grows or begins.
Bad habits can also develop as well.
But good things can develop, too.
A child develops into an adult.
And sometimes we try to develop ideas.
But that's all the time we have.
So let's find out more in Conversation B.
What else does exercise do for you?
It improves your mood.
If you have stress in your life, exercise helps you relax and feel happier.
Why is that?
Because when you exercise, your brain makes chemicals.
Those chemicals make you feel better.
And what's the most important reason to exercise, Miss Fit?
If you get regular exercise, you live longer and feel better!
There really are lots of reasons to exercise, aren't there?
The first reason Felicia Fit mentions here is that it improves your mood.
Do you think that's true, Nathan?
I think so.
Sometimes it's very tiring when I go running.
But when I finish, I usually feel quite good, and my mood does improve.
That's true. And Felicia Fit says that exercise can help stress.
That is a great key word.
stress.
If you have stress, you may feel tired in your mind or in your body.
People have stress when they are very busy or have a lot to think about.
Sometimes stress can even make us sick.
Are there other ways to use this word?
You can say: There's a lot of stress in my life right now.
Or, my job is giving me a lot of stress right now.
We also talk about putting stress on ourselves by not getting enough sleep or by
worrying too much.
But exercise can stop stress by helping you relax and feel happier.
Now we have another key word that's the opposite of stress.
It is the verb "relax." Relax.
When you relax, you don't feel stress.
You feel like you have nothing to worry about.
Different people relax in different ways.
Some might relax by exercising.
Others might relax by listening to music.
I love to relax by talking with friends or by watching a good movie.
But exercise isn't a way that most people want to relax.
Maybe that's why Rob asks how that happens.
And Felicia Fit says that your brain makes chemicals when you exercise.
And here's our Use It sentence.
Those chemicals make you feel better.
Those things make you feel or do something.
So let's use that sentence.
Those songs make me feel sad.
Really? Those songs make me feel good.
OK, now let's move on to today's Read It.
Why do you exercise?
Do you exercise to lose weight?
That shouldn't be the only reason.
You should get regular exercise.
Exercise keeps you fit.
And fit people may not develop as many serious illnesses.
Exercise also puts you in a good mood.
Do you have stress at school or at work?
Then exercise can help you relax.
How?
Exercise makes the brain create chemicals.
The chemicals improve your mood.
So what are your reasons for exercising?
In this Read It, it says, "Do you exercise to lose weight?" Do you do something
to do or get something else?
This is what we call a yes or no question.
You can answer by saying "yes" or "no." Katie, do you take the subway to work?
Yes, I take the subway to work.
It's the best way for me to get there.
Now it's my turn to ask you a question.
Nathan, do you exercise to relax?
Well, not really.
I exercise to stay healthy.
But relaxing is a good reason to exercise, too.
You've heard a few times now that losing weight should not be the only reason to
exercise.
But that does not mean that it's a bad reason.
That's true.
And it's because exercise keeps you fit.
That means if you're fit, exercise helps you stay fit.
We can use "keep" like this or in other ways, too.
Your friends will keep you from being lonely.
Or, exercise will keep you from getting sick.
In our Read It, it says fit people may not develop serious illnesses.
Exercise can also put you in a good mood, too.
That's right.
But practicing the key words puts me in a good mood.
So let's do that now.
fit.
fit.
Todd is a fit guy.
He exercises often.
develop.
develop.
My mom developed a skin problem.
stress.
stress.
Dad has a lot of stress in his life.
He's too busy.
relax.
relax.
Harry needs to relax after his long day.
Great job, everyone.
Thanks for practicing those with us.
Keep working on it.
And we will be right back afterthis.
