Hi, friends, welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Katie.
And this is LTE TV.
Today we are talking about HEALTH.
The title of our lesson is a question.
It is: Why Exercise?
Now that's a good question.
Why should we exercise?
We are going to learn how to answer that today in English, right, Nathan?
That's right.
Hi, Katie. Hi, everyone at home.
I'm so glad that you joined us for a day of learning.
My name is Nathan.
We want to help you get ready for today's lesson with our Let's Begin reading.
You can find it in your LTE magazine.
And you can follow along with Katie right now.
Let's Begin.
Joe's parents visited him last month.
They walked a lot.
They climbed a lot of stairs, too.
Joe was out of breath.
He doesn't exercise often.
He likes sports.
But he doesn't play them.
Carol exercises.
She walks.
She dances, too.
Maybe she can give Joe some ideas.
OK. Now let's move on to Conversation A.
Joe, did your parents enjoy their visit last month?
Did you have fun with them?
Yes! We had a good visit.
We went to a lot of great restaurants!
That's good!
Did you walk a lot, too?
Yes. We walked to many places in the city.
And I learned something.
What did you learn?
I need more exercise.
We just saw Carol and Joe in the Jungle Cafe.
Carol starts our conversation by asking Joe two questions.
The first one was: Did your parents enjoy their visit last month?
And what was the second question, Nathan?
Well, the second question was: Did you have fun with them?
Joe tells us he had a good visit and they went to a lot of great restaurants.
And he says they also walked a lot.
They walked to many places in the city.
And hey, "walk" is a key word.
Please walk with us as we look at it together.
walk.
When you walk, you are moving your legs.
When you walk, you get exercise.
You can walk from one place to another place.
Yeah, I uh, walk to work every morning.
And I walk home from work when I'm finished.
And I think I'm going to stop walking now.
Katie, do you walk a lot?
Yes, I do walk a lot, especially when I am in the city.
I don't have a car and I don't have a scooter.
So I walk a lot.
I like to walk.
It's good to walk.
Joe also tells us that he learned something.
What was it that he learned, Katie?
Well, he learned that he needs more exercise.
He says, "I need more exercise." Doesn't everyone?
You can use this phrase when there is something you have to do or you have to
have.
Let's use it.
I need more time to finish the project.
Or, Sarah needs to call her mom today.
Billy needs to eat more fruit.
Susie needs to study more.
And right now we need to go to Conversation B.
Why do you need more exercise?
Because I got really tired!
Some days we walked a little.
Other days we walked a lot.
But I was really tired every day!
Were you out of breath?
Yes! We climbed a lot of stairs.
I was out of breath then.
So you don't exercise often?
No. But I really like sports.
Carol starts Conversation B with another question.
She asks, "Why do you need more exercise?" Joe tells us it's because he got
really tired.
That's right.
Joe said he was really tired every day.
He and his family climbed a lot of stairs.
And he was out of breath then.
I hope that you're not tired or out of breath right now because we need to look
at a key word here.
climb.
climb.
When you climb something, you go up.
When you climb stairs, you go upstairs.
What are some other things that you could climb, Katie?
Well, you can climb a mountain.
When you climb a mountain, you walk up a mountain.
And when you climb something, you might get out of breath.
When you are out of breath, it's hard to breathe.
I get out of breath if I run.
If I'm late to work, I don't walk, I run.
And then I'm out of breath when I get to work.
I hate being out of breath.
But if you are out of breath a lot, you might need to exercise more.
That will help you.
And we want to help you learn our next key word, which is "exercise." Exercise.
When you exercise, you move your body.
You exercise to get healthy or to stay healthy.
Do you exercise often?
What do you do to exercise?
Well, when I exercise, I like to walk.
I walk around the city.
And that helps me exercise.
Or I go run.
I like to run by the river.
And that's a lot of exercise.
Some other great ways to exercise are to swim, or sometimes to play different
games, like basketball or soccer.
Those are all different ways that you might enjoy to exercise.
What do you like to do to exercise?
Well, we know that Joe wants to exercise more.
Let's find out what he's going to do in Conversation C.
Then play sports more often.
Exercise can give you more energy.
I know. That's true.
Play basketball with Ken.
Or try another sport.
Good idea.
How about you, Carol?
Do you exercise?
I walk.
And I'm in a dance club, too.
Hey, you can come to my club and dance with us!
No thanks!
I'll just play more basketball!
We know that Joe really likes sports.
Carol starts our conversation by telling Joe to play sports more often.
Well, let's look at our key word here.
play.
When you play a sport, you are doing the sport.
And when you play sports, you exercise.
So you can play sports and exercise.
Or you can watch sports.
Katie, would you rather play sports or watch sports?
Well, it depends which sport it is.
I like to play tennis.
But I like to watch football.
I don't want to play football.
Nathan, would you rather watch sports or play sports?
Well, I do like watching some sports, and I do like playing some sports.
I like to watch basketball, but I don't like to play it that much.
I would rather play soccer.
It's interesting that different people have different opinions about this
question.
What sport do you like to play?
And then what sport do you like to watch on TV?
There are a lot of choices.
Well, it's better to play sports because then you can exercise.
And exercise can give you more energy.
That's right.
Exercise gives you more energy.
And this is one way to answer the question, "Why exercise?" Because exercise can
give you more energy.
And when you have more energy, you are not so tired, and you can do more things.
Well, I hope you all have enough energy to learn another key word.
Our last key word is "dance." Dance.
Carol likes to dance.
It's a great way to exercise.
When you dance, you move your body to music.
Nathan, can you dance?
Uh, sure. Sure. Yes, I... I can dance.
Well, can you dance for us right now?
Well... I... I could.
But you know, we don't have much time.
Well, we need to practice saying our key words.
So maybe... maybe letter... later.
Uh, yeah, let's... let's... let's start practicing our key words now.
walk.
walk.
Ava walks to school.
Her home isn't far.
climb.
climb.
Mei climbed the stairs in Taipei 101!
exercise.
exercise.
Ned exercises often.
He is very healthy.
play.
play.
Jan loves sports.
She plays soccer.
dance.
dance.
I love this song.
Let's dance!
Well, I hope that practicing these key words helps you answer the question: Why
exercise?
But now we're out of time.
So we will be right back afterthis.
