Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
It's a new month with new lessons.
And you also have new teachers.
We're glad that you joined us today.
My name is Nathan.
Today we are going to talk about SEASONS.
The title of our lesson is Spring Is Here!
Now I'd like you to meet another new teacher.
Her name is Katie.
Hi, Katie. Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
Thanks, Nathan.
Hi, everyone. My name is Katie.
I'm very happy to be here.
I look forward to all that we will learn together this month.
Now it's time to get ready for today's lesson with our Let's Begin reading.
You can find this in your magazine.
Or you can read along with Nathan right now.
Let's Begin.
Megan brings Carol some flowers.
Megan is happy about spring.
She and Carol both like warm weather.
They don't want any more snow!
Megan likes the fresh air.
Carol likes it, too.
She can go to the park at lunchtime.
Good job.
Now let's begin with Conversation A.
Hello, Megan!
Those are pretty flowers.
They are for you, Carol!
Flowers for me?
Thank you very much!
But why?
Because it's spring.
Spring is my favorite season.
Spring is my favorite season, too.
I love the weather.
Me, too.
I went through the park on my way to work.
Everything was so pretty and green.
We saw Carol and Megan in Conversation A.
Megan gives Carol something in the beginning of our conversation.
Katie, what does Megan give Carol?
Megan gives Carol some flowers.
They're pretty flowers.
And Carol is very happy.
Yes, she gets flowers.
Now let's look at our first key word together.
flower.
A flower is a part of a plant.
The flower is usually the beautiful part.
You can see flowers in a garden, on a tree, or you can buy flowers at a flower
shop.
Katie, do you like flowers?
Yes, I like flowers.
Flowers have many different colors.
And some of them smell great.
Let's use this word in a sentence.
Ashley works at a flower shop.
The flowers make the shop smell nice.
Sam bought beautiful red flowers for his girlfriend.
Or you can ask someone: What is your favorite flower?
Katie, what is your favorite flower?
One of my favorite flowers is a daisy.
A daisy is a popular kind of flower.
So why does Megan give Carol flowers?
Spring is her favorite season.
Because it's spring, that she gives her flowers.
Now let's talk about this key word.
spring.
Spring is a season.
Spring is the season where it is not as cold anymore.
Flowers and plants start to grow in the spring.
Carol also tells us that spring is her favorite season.
She loves the weather.
Nathan, what do you like about spring?
Just like Megan, I like that everything is green.
Many plants start to grow again.
Let's use this key word.
After a long winter, Kayla was happy it was spring.
Or you can say: Stan can play basketball outside again in the spring.
So we know that spring is Carol and Megan's favorite season.
What else do they like about spring?
Let's find out more in Conversation B.
Today is a nice day.
The sky is so blue.
And the air is so fresh.
I love it.
Spring is great!
I agree.
The weather is not too cold.
And it is not too hot!
Maybe I can go to the park at lunchtime.
Then I can enjoy the weather.
You can see all the flowers, too!
From our conversation, we know that today is a nice day.
The sky is so blue, and the air is so fresh.
There are two key words in that sentence.
Let's look at the first one together.
air.
Air is all around us.
You breathe air in, and you breathe air out.
Let's use this word.
In winter, the air is very cold.
Or you can say the air is not very clean today.
And of course, we all like fresh air.
Let's look at the next key word.
fresh.
When we say "fresh air," we mean air that is clean and cool.
In the spring, the air is often fresh.
It is clean and cool.
Ah, fresh air.
I like to be outside when the air is fresh.
I like to go to the ocean because the air is fresh there.
In our conversation, we see the sentences "the air is so fresh" and "the sky is
so blue".
Let's look at this word "so".
Here, "so" is another way to say "very".
You can say the sky is so blue, or the sky is very blue.
Let's try using this.
The movie is so good.
You should see it.
This pizza is so good.
You should try it.
Or, learning English is so fun.
We are glad you are learning with us.
That is so true.
Megan continues to talk about the weather in our conversation by saying the
weather is not too cold, and it is not too hot.
What she means is that the weather is just right.
It's not too cold, and it's not too hot.
Here, "too" means more than you need or want.
Let's use this sentence with "too" in another way.
The food is so good.
It's not too sweet, and it's not too salty.
This song is great.
It's not too fast, and it's not too slow.
I can sing it.
And we can keep learning with Conversation C.
Don't get too excited about spring, Carol.
Why not?
Because it's snowing.
Snowing? It can't be snowing!
Why not?
Spring weather changes a lot.
But I like warm weather!
I don't want any more snow!
And I didn't wear a coat to work today.
I didn't, either.
Don't worry. You don't need one.
April fool!
April fools.
Ken is a funny guy.
He was just making a joke for April Fool's Day.
You can read more about April Fool's Day in your magazine.
Now let's talk about our key word.
Our key word is "warm".
When something is warm, it is not cold and it's not hot.
It's warm.
Carol tells us that she likes warm weather.
The weather is usually warm, or it gets warmer in the spring.
When it's snowing outside, the weather is not warm.
Let's use this word.
Mimi washes her hands with warm water and soap.
Or you can say: It's warm outside today.
You don't need a jacket.
You can say: Mom kept the food warm before she served dinner to her family.
It's true that spring weather changes a lot.
When something changes a lot, it does not stay the same.
Let's try using this sentence in another way.
Rita's work schedule changes a lot.
That means her work schedule is not often the same.
Tina's travel plans change a lot.
She's not sure where she wants to go.
Well, Carol is sure that she doesn't want any more snow.
She says, "I don't want any more snow!" This is today's Use It sentence.
So let's use it in another way.
I don't want any more food.
I'm so full.
Or, Tom doesn't want any more work.
He's very busy now.
How about: Pam doesn't want any more things.
She has too much stuff.
And I don't want any more T-shirts.
I already have way too many T-shirts, and I don't even wear them all.
Katie, what do you not want any more of?
I don't want any more pets.
I already have one cat.
And I really don't want another one.
Well, we hope that you do want to practice today's key words with us.
And let's do that now.
Katie, why don't you get us started?
Here is your first key word.
flower.
flower.
Look at the pretty flowers!
spring.
spring.
Spring is my favorite season.
air.
air.
The air is nice outside.
fresh.
fresh.
The air is fresh after the rain.
warm.
warm.
You don't need a coat.
It's warm outside.
Great job, everyone.
Now we'll be rightback.
