Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And thank you for joining us today.
We are going to start a new topic.
We are talking about PEOPLE.
And the title of today's lesson is Beautiful People.
We are going to talk about how people look.
And we're going to try to describe how people look in English.
Now I know that you are going to learn a lot with us today.
And speaking of beautiful people, Kevin is here!
Oh, please.
Well, thanks, Andrea.
You're very beautiful yourself.
Hello, everybody. My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us today at Let's Talk in English.
We want to help you get ready for today's lesson with our Let's Begin reading.
You'll find all of today's key words in this reading.
You can find it in your Let's Talk in English magazine.
And you can read along with Kevin right now.
Let's Begin.
Someone has a gift for Susie.
His name is Mr. Nelson.
What color is his hair?
He has dark hair.
What color are his eyes?
They are blue.
His nose is a little big.
And he's tall and thin.
Now Susie knows him!
She's happy about his gift!
Well, I'm sure that you are happy to begin today's conversations.
So let's go to Conversation A.
Hi, Susie.
Do you know Mr. Nelson?
Mr. Nelson?
Yes. He knows you.
He is here at the TV station.
I don't know a Mr. Nelson.
Really? He has a gift for you.
He is in the lobby.
Hmm... what color is Mr. Nelson's hair?
He has dark hair.
Kevin, do you know Ken?
Of course I know Ken.
Ken is our cameraman.
Oh, right. That's true.
Do you know Rob?
Of... of course I know Rob.
He is our show host.
Yes. Do you know Tom?
Tom... Tom?
You don't know Tom?
No.
Oh, OK. Well, Tom is my brother.
Maybe someday you can get to know him.
Now I have just used this phrase a lot.
This question: Do you know someone?
If you want to find out if one person knows another person, you can say this.
Do you know Mrs. Archer?
Do you know the new manager?
Or do you know who is going to be on the show today?
Well, in our conversation we see the question:
Do you know Mr. Nelson?
Now does Susie know Mr. Nelson, Kevin?
I don't think Susie knows who he is.
Right. So she asks some questions to find out more about Mr. Nelson.
She says, "What color is Mr. Nelson's hair?" Well, we see a key word here.
Let's talk about it together.
It is the word: color.
Red, blue, yellow, green.
These are all different colors.
That's right.
This color is pink.
I am OK with using a pink-colored clipboard.
OK. So the color of Kevin's clipboard is pink.
The color of my clipboard is green.
And what is the color of Mr. Nelson's hair?
Well, we find out that he has dark hair.
And I'm sure we'll find out more about Mr. Nelson in Conversation B.
What color are Mr. Nelson's eyes?
He has blue eyes, I think.
You aren't sure?
No. He is wearing glasses.
Oh, his nose is a little big.
Is he a young man?
No. He is about 50 years old.
Is Mr. Nelson thin?
Yes, he is.
Do you remember him now?
Maybe I do.
So we learn more about this Mr. Nelson guy.
He has blue eyes.
And so let's talk about that key word.
eye.
Now the eye is the part of your face you use to see things.
I have an eye... I have two eyes.
And animals have eyes as well.
Let's use "eye" in a sentence.
People have different colored eyes.
Some people have brown eyes like I do.
Mr. Nelson has blue eyes.
I see. Kevin has brown eyes.
Mr. Nelson has blue eyes.
I have green eyes.
Green is the color of my eyes.
Well, let's use this word in another way.
Winnie covered her eyes while watching the movie.
Why did she cover her eyes?
Well, the movie was very scary.
Well, I don't cover my eyes when watching a scary movie.
That's because I don't watch scary movies.
Let's talk about another part of our face with our next key word.
That is "nose." Now the nose is the part of your face you use to smell things.
I have a nose.
You have a nose, too.
Well, animals have noses as well.
Can you think of an animal with a nose?
All right, let's use "nose" in a sentence.
Oliver's nose turns red when the air is cold.
You can also say the dog used his nose to look for food.
So when you want to describe someone or talk about someone, you can talk about
their eyes.
What color are they?
Are they big?
Are they small?
You can also talk about a person's nose.
Is it big, or is it small?
Finally, in Conversation B, Susie asks if Mr. Nelson is thin.
She is asking about his body.
Let's look at our last key word.
thin.
Now when something is thin, it means there's not a lot along the sides.
So well, paper is thin.
Some noodles are very thin.
When we are talking about people, it means they are skinny.
When you say someone is thin, that person is not fat.
We can say Jossy exercises a lot and eats well.
She wants to stay thin.
And we want to keep learning with Conversation C.
Why does Mr. Nelson have a gift for you?
I don't know.
Maybe Mr. Nelson is one of your fans!
Can you tell me more about him?
He is tall.
He is handsome, too.
Hmm... Mr. Nelson has dark hair.
He's tall.
He's handsome.
Oh! Now I know him!
He lives in my apartment building!
And he has a gift for you.
How nice!
Well, now Susie knows who Mr. Nelson is.
And we know a lot about how Mr. Nelson looks.
We know that he has dark hair, he has blue eyes, he is thin, and he is tall.
Let's talk about our key word here.
It is "tall." Now if someone is tall, they are not short.
I think I am tall, and Kevin is very tall.
Kevin is taller than me.
That's right.
And if you have met teacher Steve, he is taller than I am.
We can say he is the tallest.
That's right, he is the tallest.
Well, we see another phrase to talk about here.
Can you tell me more about him?
Can you tell me more about her?
When you want to know more about someone, when you're interested in knowing
more, you can use this phrase.
Tell me more about your family.
Kevin, tell me more about your sister.
Well, my sister is very nice.
We are very close.
We talk about many things together.
Is your sister also tall like you?
Well, she is taller than many girls, but she is not the tallest.
I see.
So you can use a lot of the words you learned today to talk about how people
look.
And now we want to talk about our key words.
Let's practice them together.
color.
color.
Leo wears a lot of orange clothes.
Orange is his favorite color.
eye.
eye.
Open your eyes.
Then you can see.
nose.
nose.
The baby has a cute little nose.
thin.
thin.
Lanie is a thin girl.
She's not fat.
tall.
tall.
How tall is that basketball player?
All right, good job, friends.
We will be rightback.
