Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
We're glad you joined us again today.
Today we will learn about HABITS.
The title of today's lesson is What Do You Do in the Morning?
What Do You Do in the Morning?
Well, today we are going to learn how to answer this question together in
English, right, Kevin?
That's right, we will.
Hello, everybody.
Are you ready to learn?
Because I am, too.
My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us today.
Now we will begin our lesson with our Let's Begin reading.
This reading talks about our lesson and uses all of our key words.
So let's begin.
Joe wakes up early in the morning.
So why does he get to work late?
Susie asks him about his morning.
He gets in the shower.
Then he eats eggs, toast or cereal.
He brushes his teeth.
After that, he uses the computer.
Which of these is making Joe late?
Hmm, that's a good question.
Let's go to Conversation A so we can start learning.
Hey, Joe! How are you?
Not good.
I was late for work today. Again.
Oh, no.
And I was late for work three times last week!
Why? Do you wake up late?
No. I wake up early!
But I'm still late to work!
Why? What do you do in the morning?
I wake up.
Then I get in the shower.
Well, Joe is not good today.
What is wrong with Joe?
Well, he tells us that he was late for work today... again.
So he was late for work today again.
That means it's not the first time that Joe was late.
Well, we find out that Joe was late for work three times last week.
So Susie wants to know why.
She says "Why? Do you wake up late?" Now let's look at that way of using the
word "late." It's a key word.
late.
Now when you wake up late, that means you sleep too long.
Do you wake up late in the morning?
Well, sometimes I wake up late.
Kevin, what about you?
Well, I try not to wake up late.
Because if I wake up late, I will go to work late.
You can also say I slept late.
Mia slept late.
She often sleeps late on the weekends.
You can also say: Harry ate lunch late.
He ate lunch at 2 p.m.
So you can wake up late.
Or you can wake up early.
Joe tells us that he wakes up early.
Let's talk about that key word.
early.
Now when you wake up early, that means you don't wake up late.
If you wake up early, then you might wake up around 6 a.m. or 7 a.m.
You can also talk too early.
Maybe you said something too fast, and it wasn't a good time to say it.
So if Joe wakes up early, why is he still late to work?
Hmm, I think Susie wants to find out.
And I'm sure you do, too.
Well, let's look at the phrase: I was late for work three times last week.
Three times.
Now we know how many times.
Let's use this in another way.
Sarah calls her mom two times a day.
You can say: Joey works out two times a week.
And we talk about our conversations three times in our show.
Now let's continue with Conversation B.
How long do you stay in the shower?
Not long. Maybe 10 minutes.
What do you do next?
I go into the kitchen.
And I make breakfast.
What do you make?
I make eggs or toast.
Or sometimes I eat cereal.
Do you eat fast?
Yes, I'm always hungry in the morning!
In Conversation B, Joe talks about what he does next.
And that is he makes breakfast.
This is a good habit.
Eating breakfast is always good for you.
So Andrea, what does he eat for breakfast?
Well, Joe tells us that he makes toast and eggs.
Or sometimes he eats cereal.
And Andrea used one of our key words.
So let's look at that right now.
That is "toast." Toast is bread that has been warmed... uh, that bread that is
warm.
And sometimes it's a little brown on the outside.
For example, Americans like to eat toast for breakfast.
You can say Carol uses toast to make a sandwich.
She takes two pieces of toast, and then puts eggs, meat and vegetables inside.
Now Joe says he cooks eggs and toast.
But sometimes that takes a long time.
So Joe says he sometimes eats cereal.
Cereal is much faster to make.
Sometimes when I have no time, I eat cereal, too.
Andrea, what do you like to make for breakfast?
Well, just like Joe, I like to make eggs and toast.
I also like cereal.
But some days I like to eat a lot of fruit.
I like to make a fruit salad.
And I might add some yogurt to that fruit salad.
Well, Joe says he is always hungry in the morning.
That means he is hungry every morning.
So if I say I am always happy when I listen to music, that means every time I
listen to music, I am happy.
Well, we know that you are always ready to learn when you join us here on Let's
Talk in English.
So let's keep learning with Conversation C.
After breakfast, what do you do?
I brush my teeth.
Then I use my computer.
Do you check your email?
Yes. And I read the news.
And I look at Facebook.
I see.
And then you look at the time.
And you're late!
That's right!
Joe, don't turn on your computer in the morning!
Then you can be on time!
I wake up in the morning.
It's a quarter past 8:00.
I brush my teeth.
I brush my teeth.
Now that is a fun song that you can sing when you brush your teeth.
Well, we see two of our key words in that song.
Let's talk about "teeth" together.
Now our key word is "tooth" or "teeth." One tooth.
Two or more teeth.
Now when you smile, we can see your teeth.
So we would like everyone to smile right now.
Open your mouth and smile.
Oh, I can see your teeth.
They're beautiful teeth.
Now "tooth" is one of your teeth.
So sometimes one of your teeth might hurt.
So you can say: My tooth hurts.
And if your tooth hurts, you might want to find out what the problem is.
And you need to take care of your teeth.
How can you take care of your teeth?
Well, you can brush your teeth.
Brush your teeth.
I just love that song.
Well, let's look at our next key word.
It is the verb "brush." Now when you brush your teeth, you clean your teeth.
You use something that is called a toothbrush to brush your teeth.
That's right.
You don't just brush your teeth.
You should also brush the gums on top of your teeth.
And sometimes you can brush your tongue... your tongue.
That's true.
And sometimes you also brush your hair.
Of course, you use a different kind of brush to brush your hair.
Don't use a toothbrush to brush your hair, right, Kevin?
That's right.
That does not look right.
No, that's not right.
But we hope that you can use these key words in the right way.
So we know that Joe brushes his teeth in the morning.
We also find out that he checks his email.
So maybe he shouldn't be on his computer.
But we should review our key words together.
late.
late.
I went to bed really late last night.
Now I'm tired.
early.
early.
Heidi comes to school early.
She studies before class.
toast.
toast.
I want some toast for breakfast.
Where is the bread?
brush.
brush.
I brush my teeth three times a day.
tooth, or teeth.
tooth, or teeth.
Ashley is smiling.
I can see her nice, white teeth.
All right, good job practicing those with us.
We will be right back.
