Hello, everybody. Welcome to Let's Talk in English here at LTE TV.
My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us this Saturday.
This week we learned about basketball.
Ken and Megan shot some baskets.
They both stood and threw the ball.
It turns out Megan is better than Ken at shooting baskets.
Do you like to watch basketball?
It is an exciting sport.
There is a lot of scoring and passing.
We also talked about food.
And you know I love to talk about food.
So why don't we go straight into our conversations right now?
Hi, Megan! Catch!
Why did you throw me a basketball, Ken?
I will play basketball in the park after work today.
Come play with me.
No thanks. I don't like basketball.
Why not?
I can't play basketball very well.
You just need more practice.
I do. But I don't like sports very much.
Sports are fun.
Sports are fun for some people.
And basketball is really fun.
I like it a lot.
Books are fun, too.
I like them more.
Ha ha. Let's shoot some baskets right now.
Here?
Sure! We can shoot the ball into that trash can over there.
But I can't shoot baskets.
Sure you can! Just try.
That was fun. I won!
Yes, you did.
You got 15 baskets.
I only got 13.
I can play this kind of basketball.
I just stand and shoot!
This isn't really basketball.
You run and jump in real basketball.
I know. I don't like that.
Come on, let's shoot more baskets.
You need more practice!
Are you going to watch the NBA game tomorrow night, Rob?
Which one?
The Lakers game.
They're playing the Hawks.
Yes. I like the Lakers, and the Hawks have some good players.
They do.
Lou Williams is one of them.
He scores a lot of points in some games.
I know. He doesn't miss many shots.
And he's fun to watch.
And of course I like to watch Kobe Bryant.
He's a good player.
He handles the ball well.
But isn't he a little selfish with it?
Some people think that, but I don't.
He works well with his teammates on the court.
The Lakers are a good team.
But Kobe could pass the ball more instead of shooting it himself.
Maybe.
So who will win tomorrow's game?
The Hawks.
I'm tired of the Lakers.
They win all the time.
No, the Lakers will win.
Come over tomorrow and watch the game with me.
We can order pizza.
If the Hawks win, you buy the pizza.
And if the Lakers win, you buy the pizza!
OK! This will be an exciting game.
It will be because my team will win!
Did you eat lunch, Joe?
I just finished.
I had a hot dog and fries.
Yum! I want a light lunch today.
Why? Aren't you hungry?
Not really.
Maybe I can have a salad.
Good idea.
Hey, Rob, my parents are visiting me this week.
Do you know any good restaurants?
Yes! Take them to Taylor's Steak House.
I love steak!
I do, too.
A big, delicious steak is one of my favorite foods!
My parents like steak, too.
So Taylor's Steak House has good steak?
Yes. Taylor's has the best steak in the city.
Good. I can take my parents there!
Do I need a reservation?
Yes. The restaurant is usually crowded.
Does Taylor's Steak House only have steak?
Or do they have other meat?
They have great chicken, too!
And the bread and vegetables there are also delicious.
Is Taylor's menu online?
Yes. You can check it later.
OK. Do they have baked potatoes?
Of course!
Is the restaurant expensive?
Well, yes. But it's really good!
Hey, Susie!
What's your favorite restaurant in the city?
That's a good question, Joe!
I love Mexican food, so Rosa's is one of my favorite places.
Does Rosa's have any good spicy dishes?
Yes! And Rosa's is inexpensive, too!
OK, good!
My parents love spicy food, and they're visiting me this week.
Take them to Rosa's! It's great!
OK!
Can you suggest any other good restaurants?
Yes! Burger Bill's!
Their burgers and fries are delicious.
And the restaurant looks like a 1950s diner!
Fun! Can you hear 50s music there?
Yes!
And the servers wear 50s-style uniforms, too.
Then we will go to Burger Bill's!
My parents will like that place.
Do I need to make a reservation?
No! It's a very big place.
Where else can I take them?
Do your parents like Chinese food?
Yes, they do.
Then take them to Wang's House of Dumplings.
Dumplings sound good.
Wang's has all kinds of dumplings.
Is it a fancy restaurant?
Yes. The hostess wears a qipao!
Is that restaurant near the TV station?
Yes. Hey, let's go there for lunch today.
OK!
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
So what do you know about tipping?
Do you know who to tip and how much you should tip?
Well, our guest today is here to tell us more about tipping.
Please help me welcome Ms. Manners.
Welcome to the show, Ms. Manners.
Thank you, Rob.
Tell us about tipping.
Not everyone agrees on who to tip.
That's true.
So who do you tip?
You tip people for their services.
So you tip your server at a restaurant?
Yes. Tip 15 percent for good service and 20 percent for great service.
Should you always tip?
Yes. But if the service is poor, leave a very small one.
Should you tip anyone else?
Tip a taxi driver 15 percent of the fare.
Do you give a hairstylist a tip?
Oh, yes. Tip 20 percent of the bill.
What about coffee shops?
Sometimes you see a tip jar on the counter.
You do not have to put money in the jar.
But you can if you want to.
Where can people find out more about tipping?
They can check online.
In America, you should tip people for their services.
At a restaurant, tip 15 percent for good service and 20 percent for great
service.
If the service is poor, leave a small tip.
That will let the server know you were not happy with the service.
In some coffee shops and cafes, you see a tip jar on the counter.
If you want to, put some money in the jar, but you don't have to.
Remember to tip taxi drivers and hairstylists.
They appreciate it!
Welcome back, friends.
Hmm, talking about food always makes me hungry, especially when our friends
talked about Mexican food.
You sure like to eat food, don't you?
I sure do.
I also like to eat American food.
You know, hot dogs, hamburgers.
I heard hot dogs and hamburgers are inexpensive foods.
They don't cost much money, right?
Right.
But there are some restaurants that serve fancy hamburgers.
Really? What makes them fancy?
Well, hmm, all the servers are very friendly.
They only use the best meat and fresh vegetables.
They also add things to burgers that most people don't add.
Interesting.
So if this is a fancy burger place, did you have to give a tip?
Hmm, yes. Yes, I did.
I usually tip well at one fancy hamburger place.
Why? Is their service really good?
Yeah, their service is very good.
But I tip well because, well, I know the servers.
They're my friends.
And well, you are my friends, too.
And why don't we come back in amoment.
