Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And this is LTE TV.
Today we continue with our topic of NATURE.
And we are still talking about pets.
But we have a new lesson for you.
The title of today's lesson is Choosing the Right Pet.
Now if you want a pet, you can choose from many different kinds of animals.
So hopefully today's lesson will help you choose the best pet for you.
Kevin, I'm glad you're here again today.
I'm glad I am here, too.
I love pets.
And I love talking about pets.
Hello, everybody.
My name is Kevin.
Now before we start our lesson, we always do our Let's Begin reading.
Now our Let's Begin reading will help you with this lesson.
It will talk about what we are learning.
So let's begin.
How do you choose the right pet?
Think about your lifestyle.
Some animals are social and don't like to be alone.
Large, active dogs need a large home and a place to run.
Many animals, like birds, need a lot of attention.
So they may not be good pets for busy people.
But all pets need a lot of care!
All right, ready to learn?
Let's go to Conversation A.
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk.
Now how do you choose the right pet for you?
Well, today's guest will help us answer this question.
Please help me welcome Ms. Patty Pet.
Patty Pet, how do people choose the right pet?
They must consider their lifestyle.
If they're away from home all day, owning a dog isn't a good idea.
Because dogs are social?
Yes. They don't like to be alone.
Most cats can stay home alone longer than dogs.
I see. What about a pet owner's home?
Large, active dogs need large homes with yards.
Patty Pet is in the studio today.
And Rob has a good question for her.
He says, "Patty Pet, how do people choose the right pet?" Well, Patty says they
must consider their lifestyle.
They need to think about their life and what is best for their pet.
If a person is away a lot, you might not want to get a dog because dogs are
social.
Let's talk about that key word.
social.
Now if a person is social, that means they like to be with a lot of people.
A social person likes to go out with friends.
They like to be with a lot of people.
So you can say: George is not very social.
He likes to stay home and read books.
So we can use this word "social" to talk about people.
But of course, you can also use it to talk about animals.
And we know that dogs are social.
They like to be with people.
Are cats social?
Well, Patty tells us that most cats can stay home alone longer than dogs.
They are not as social as dogs.
They can stay alone longer.
Let's talk about that key word.
It is "alone." Now if you are alone, that means there is no one around you.
If you are at home alone, then no one else is in your home.
So for example, Jay was home alone.
So he had to cook his own food.
And he had no one to talk to.
Another thing you have to consider when thinking about a pet is if the pet is
active or not.
Let's talk about this key word.
active.
Now if a pet or a person is active, that means they like to do things.
Active people don't like to just sit and do nothing.
Active people like to go and be outside and do things.
That's right.
My friends are active people.
They like to play outside.
They like to go hiking.
They like to play sports.
They do a lot of things together.
Well, we are active here on our show.
So let's keep going to Conversation B.
Active dogs need a place to run, don't they?
Yes. They need a place like a yard or a park.
Are birds good pets for busy people?
Birds make great pets, but not for busy people.
Birds need a lot of attention.
What about fish?
Fish are great pets for busy people!
But fish still need a lot of care.
Just like every pet!
Well, it looks like every pet needs lots of care.
You can have a cat.
You can have a dog.
You can have a fish.
They all need lots of care.
Why don't we talk about that key word.
care.
When you give care to a pet, it means you are responsible for the pet.
It means you give the pet what it needs.
For example, Gordon takes good care of his pets.
We can also say Bethenny likes to help people.
They say her care is always very kind.
So all pets need care.
But some pets need more care.
Patty Pet says birds need a lot of care.
They are not good for busy people.
Why don't we look at our next key word.
That is "bird." Now a bird is an animal that has wings and can fly.
And they have beaks, little sharp mouths.
So let's use "bird" in a sentence.
Some people like to take pictures of birds.
They often go to parks to find pretty birds.
Well, we know that birds are special because they can fly.
Some birds are also really smart.
For example, one kind of bird is a parrot.
And this is a bird that can actually talk.
You know, parrots can speak English.
Yes, they can.
So why don't we speak or talk about our next key word.
And that is "attention." Now attention is when you are carefully watching or
thinking of something.
So for example, Benny had my attention when he started yelling.
Now please give your attention to our Read It.
Are you thinking about getting a pet?
Consider your lifestyle.
Are you often away from home?
Don't get a dog.
Dogs are social and need to be around people.
Most cats can be alone longer than dogs.
Birds are also social animals and need a lot of attention.
Active animals need a place to run, so consider your home, too.
Owning a pet is fun, but it's not always easy.
All pets need a lot of care!
Our Read It starts by saying: Are you thinking about getting a pet?
Consider your lifestyle.
Are you thinking about something?
Consider this.
Now when you consider something, that means you think about it.
So let's try to use this question and phrase in another way.
Are you thinking about taking a trip?
Consider your budget.
Or consider how much money you have.
Are you thinking of learning a new sport?
Consider what you like to do.
Are you thinking about practicing your key words?
Well, consider saying them with us right now.
