Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And we are glad that you joined us again today.
Our theme for these new lessons is NATURE.
And the title of our lesson today is I Want a Dog!
We are going to talk about getting a new pet.
And we're going to talk about the good things and the bad things about getting a
new pet.
So we have a lot to talk about, don't we?
We sure do.
I love pets.
I love taking care of pets.
Do you?
Well hello, friends.
My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us today.
Now we are going to start our lesson with the Let's Begin reading.
This reading will help you with your lesson today.
And you can find it in your Let's Talk in English magazine.
So let's begin.
Joe wants a dog.
So Susie talks to Joe about her dog.
Susie's dog doesn't feel bored in her apartment.
He sleeps a lot.
Susie walks her dog in the morning and in the evening.
Her dog is good for her health.
Her dog is fun, too.
She plays with him every day.
Are you excited to learn this lesson?
I am.
Let's start with Conversation A.
Hey, Susie. Do you have any pets?
Yes, Joe! I have a dog.
You do?
I want a pet. I think.
That's great! Get a dog!
Dogs are so much fun.
What kind of dog do you have?
I have a small poodle!
His name is Max.
Do you live in a house or an apartment?
I live in an apartment.
Do you have any pets?
Well, we see this question at the beginning of Conversation A.
Joe says, "Hey, Susie. Do you have any pets?" Now does Susie have any pets?
Wall, yes, she does.
She has a dog.
Yes, she has a dog as a pet.
And we have a key word to talk about.
The key word is "dog." Now a dog is a popular pet.
Many people have a dog in their house or in their apartment.
So a dog is an animal, right?
That's right.
And a dog barks like... or maybe something a bit lower.
Right.
Yeah.
Some dogs might say...
OK, it's kind of fun to think about how a dog talks.
So a dog is a pet that many people have.
Do you have a dog?
Or would you like to have a dog as a pet?
Well, Susie has a dog.
And she is excited about dogs.
She says, "Get a dog! Dogs are so much fun." Kevin, do you have a dog?
I don't have a dog right now.
But my family does.
My mother and father do.
And I love playing with our dog.
And what kind of dog do you have?
Well, I have a schnoodle.
Can you say that? Schnoodle.
It's a schnauzer and a poodle mix.
Schnoodle.
So schnoodle is the kind of dog.
And of course, there are many different kinds of dogs.
So someone tells you they have a dog, you can ask this question.
What kind of dog do you have?
Well, Susie has a small poodle.
And we have more to learn from Conversation B.
You're at work all day.
Does your dog feel bored in your apartment?
No. He sleeps a lot.
And sometimes I go home for lunch.
How often do you walk your dog?
I walk him in the morning and in the evening.
Then I get exercise, too.
Dogs are good for your health!
True. Both of you get a lot of exercise!
Joe and Susie are talking more about owning a dog in Conversation B.
Joe asks Susie if her dog feels bored in her apartment.
That brings us to our first key word.
bored.
Now when you are bored, it means you have nothing to do and you want to do
something.
So for example, Clark looks bored.
He has been sitting here for three hours.
Or if you are doing something that you've done a lot, if it's not new and it's
not exciting, you can say you're bored of something.
Lisa got bored of the game very quickly.
Well, I hope Let's Talk in English will not make you bored.
Why? Because learning English is fun.
It can be hard, but it is a lot of fun.
Well, when I am bored, I like to sleep.
And that's what Susie's dog does.
Let's talk about the next key word.
sleep.
Now when you sleep, you close your eyes, you lie down, and you rest.
Usually we sleep during the night.
I like to sleep.
I try to sleep about eight hours every night.
And it's important to get enough sleep so you have energy during the day.
So let's use "sleep" in a sentence.
The king sleeps on a huge bed.
You can say: Shh, be quiet. The baby is sleeping.
Now sleeping is a good thing.
In fact, some people do not sleep enough.
That can be bad for your health.
Hey, I just used our third key word.
health.
Now "health" is how well your body is or the wellness of your body.
So let me use it in a sentence.
Jack likes to take care of his health.
He exercises a lot.
We can say eating lots of fruit, eating lots of vegetables is good for your
health.
Eating a lot of sugar or a lot of junk food is bad for your health.
You can also take care of your health by taking care of your skin.
You have to wash your body pretty often to take care of your health.
All right, friends, I'm sure you learned a lot.
Let's continue learning in Conversation C.
Dog owners aren't just healthy.
They're happy, too!
I'm sure. Dogs are fun.
Yes. Some days I feel sad, angry or upset.
So I play with my dog.
Then I feel better.
That's good.
My dog is not just my pet.
He's also a part of my family!
Many dog owners say that.
Well, it's true!
Susie starts our conversation by saying dog owners aren't just healthy.
They're happy, too.
Now if you are a dog owner, that means you own a dog.
The dog is yours.
You need to make sure the dog is OK, and that the dog has everything it needs.
Now Kevin, you told us that your family has a dog, a schnoodle.
Are you the owner of that dog?
I am not the owner of the dog.
My mother and father are the dog's owners.
They are very happy with the dog around.
OK. Well, I'm sure that even though they are the owners of the dog, you play
with the dog when you're at home.
And that brings us to our key word in this conversation.
It is "play." Susie tells us that she plays with her dog.
And she feels better when she's sad or angry or upset.
Now when you play with a dog, you do something with the dog.
You can play with the dog by using a ball.
How else can you play with a dog?
Well, I like to run around and let my dog chase me, or sometimes I chase my dog.
So you can play with a dog, you chase your dog.
You can also play with kids.
I like to play with my son.
We play together with his toys.
Or we play together outside at a park.
Well, we have something else to look at in this conversation.
Susie says that her dog is not just her pet.
He's also part of her family.
So she's very close with her dog.
It's like he's part of her family.
And now we are moving to another part of our show.
Let's review today's key words.
