Hi, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And this is LTE TV.
Today we are going to look at the topic of TECHNOLOGY.
And the title of our lesson is Sharing Pictures.
Sharing Pictures.
Do you like to take pictures and share them with your family and friends?
Well, today we are going to talk about how you can do that.
And Kevin, I'm glad that we can talk about this together.
I sure am, too.
I always like it when my friends share their pictures with me.
Hello, everybody. My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us today.
To help you get ready for today's lesson, we are going to look at our Let's
Begin reading.
You'll see all of today's key words in there and a lot more.
Let's begin.
Smile! Carol is taking pictures!
She has a cool new phone with a nice camera on it.
She can put the phone in her pocket and always have it with her.
She can take pictures and share them right away.
She doesn't have to upload them to her computer first.
OK. Well, let's start with Conversation A.
Hi, Ken. Smile!
Hi, Carol.
Why did you just take my picture?
So I can email it to Amber.
Why?
I talked to her yesterday, and she really misses everyone.
We miss her, too.
So I'm taking pictures of everyone and sending them to her with my phone.
That's quick.
You don't have to upload the photos to your computer first.
Right.
Carol starts our conversation by taking a picture of Ken.
Well, Ken isn't sure why Carol just took a picture of him.
So he asks, "Why did you just take my picture?" So why did Carol take his
picture?
Well, she said she wanted to send it to Amber.
Ah, that's right, Amber.
Do you remember who Amber is?
Well, Amber used to work here at the studio.
But she got a new job.
And she still misses everyone.
So Carol is going to send her these pictures.
That's why she says, "Hi, Ken. Smile!" Let's start by looking at that key word.
It's the verb "smile." Now when you smile, you look very happy.
When you smile, your mouth looks happy.
The corners of your mouth go up when you are smiling.
And Kevin is smiling.
It's nice to see a smile on your face.
That's right.
It is always nice to see someone smile.
That means they are probably happy.
Now when you take a picture, we like to tell people to smile when we take the
picture because it looks nice.
Now in our conversation, smile is a verb.
It's an action.
When you say, "Please smile," you want the person to look happy.
But "smile" can also be a noun.
You can say: Your smile is beautiful.
Or I like to see a smile on your face.
And of course, when you take a picture, you can say, "Smile!" It's a way to tell
someone that you're also taking their photo.
That's right.
We sometimes tell people to say "cheese" because when you say "cheese," your
mouth starts to smile.
That is true. Cheese.
You can't help but smile when you say that word.
Well, Carol is taking photos.
And then she is going to send them.
But we find out that she doesn't need to upload the photos to her computer first
because she has a new phone.
Well, let's talk about our key word.
computer.
A computer is a machine.
Today many people have computers.
And there are many different sizes.
Kevin, what do you use your computer for?
Well, I use my computer to check my email and to go look at the Internet.
Well, let's keep learning with Conversation B.
Is that a new phone?
It is!
My camera stopped working, and my phone was getting old.
My son told me to buy this kind of phone.
Fun! So you can take a picture and then share it right away.
That's right!
Does the phone take good pictures?
I think so.
I'm still learning how to use the camera.
So it looks like Carol has a new phone.
Why does she have a new phone?
Well, her son told her to buy it after her camera stopped working and her other
phone was getting old.
Today many people have very good cameras in their phones.
And we need to talk about that key word.
camera.
Now a camera is something you use to take pictures with.
We've had cameras for a long time now, haven't we?
Yes, cameras have been used for many, many years.
Some people still use big cameras.
But you can also buy many different kinds of small cameras.
And of course, you can find cameras in cellphones, computers, and even tablet
computers.
So let's use "camera" in some sentences.
Christie bought a camera to take pictures during the vacation.
Or you can say: Steve's new computer has a camera in it, too.
Now one really cool thing about Carol's new phone is that she can take a
picture, and then share it right away.
Now when we see "right away," we mean without any waiting.
That's pretty cool, isn't it?
That is pretty cool.
Right away.
We are going to keep learning right away.
That's right.
Well, why can she send pictures right away?
It's because she does not have to use a computer to send a picture.
She can just use the phone.
Now we are going to move on to Conversation C right away.
May I look at your phone?
Sure. Here you go.
This is a really cool phone.
I know!
And a small phone with a camera is convenient.
You can put it in your pocket, so you always have it with you.
That's right.
And I won't forget to share my photos anymore.
Smile, Carol!
Now let's send your picture to Amber!
Carol shows Ken her new phone.
And Ken likes her new phone.
He says, "This is a really cool phone." And we have a really cool key word to
talk about.
The word is "cool." Cool.
Now we use this word "cool" a lot in English.
And you can use it in many different ways.
We usually use it to say something is good.
Or when you like something, or you think it's neat, you can say: Hey, that's
cool!
So if my friend buys a new car, I can say:
Man! That's such a cool car!
Or if they have a new computer:
Man! That's a cool computer you have there.
Well, I'm really happy to be teaching with a cool guy.
This cool guy's name is Kevin.
Kevin, you're a cool guy.
You're a cool teacher.
Thanks!
So you can say people are cool, too.
Well, we know that Carol's phone is cool.
And we already found out a few reasons why her phone is cool.
We learn more about this phone as well.
It's a small phone, so it's convenient.
You can put the phone in your pocket.
Let's talk about this key word.
pocket.
Now a pocket is a small place where you can put things in.
Clothes often have pockets.
You might have a pocket in your pants or a small pocket in your shirt.
You can put many things in your pockets, like your keys, your phone...
You can also put some small things that you like to use, like maybe a comb.
Right. Or some people keep money in their pockets.
So you can find pockets on clothes.
Some bags also have pockets.
You might find a pocket inside a bag or pockets on the outside of a bag.
Well, our conversation starts with a question.
Ken says, "May I look at your phone?" May I do something?
And you can use this to ask if you can do something.
May I look at your phone?
May I look at your magazine?
Another good question to ask is: May I take your picture?
Kevin, is it nice to ask before you take someone's picture?
Of course it is nice to ask.
People want to look their best in a picture.
So, may I take your picture?
Now can you please review our key words with us?
We want you to smile as you practice them.
The first one is: smile.
smile.
Jackie smiles a lot because she is usually happy.
computer.
computer.
I use my computer for work and to send emails to friends.
camera.
camera.
Can you please take my picture?
Here's my camera.
cool.
cool.
This is a cool gadget!
It can do so many things!
pocket.
pocket.
Carl always keeps his wallet in his pocket.
Great job with those.
Now we'll be rightback.
