Hello, friends.
Welcome to Let's talk in English here at LTE TV.
My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining us today.
Now this week we talked about the weather.
We learned how to talk about the sky.
We learned how to use "degrees" when talking about temperature.
We also talked about finding a place to live.
Do you live in an apartment?
What kind of neighborhood are you in?
Is it safe?
Now please talk to some of your friends in English and ask them some of these
questions.
Now let's go on into our conversation reviews.
Let's go there right now.
Hi, Megan. How are you?
I'm great, Rob!
It's sunny today!
You're right.
The weather is still cold.
But I can see the sun!
I love the sun.
You see the sun a lot in Florida.
That's true.
The days are often cloudy in the winter here.
But there are no clouds in the sky today.
So I am happy.
We may have clear skies all week.
So we can see the sun every day.
That's great!
Well, not for me.
Why not?
I like snow.
I need more snow.
Why do you need more snow?
So I can ski on Saturday.
Do you ski often?
No. But I want to ski on Saturday!
Well, the weather might change.
You never know.
You're right.
The weather often changes.
It might be snowy on Friday.
It might be snowy tomorrow!
It might be.
But I hope not!
Rob, what did you think of those video clips?
Several of them were pretty good, Carol.
Many people want to be our new weather reporter.
Who should I hire?
Who has the most experience?
Grant Cliffson.
I wouldn't hire Grant.
Why not?
I don't like his voice.
"There is a 20 percent chance of rain tonight.".
You're right.
A weather reporter should have a nice voice.
Did they all go to good schools?
Yes, I think so.
Even Kathy Smith?
Yes. Maybe I should hire her.
She is really pretty.
But she didn't seem very smart.
Well, she has a lot of energy!
That's true.
"Be ready, everyone, because it's going to be windy today!
There will be lots and lots of wind!".
What did you think of Abby Lee?
I liked Abby.
She did a good job on her video clips.
I agree.
But was she too quiet?
I don't think so.
"Today the temperature will reach 50 degrees." Abby was just calmer than Kathy.
You're right.
I'm going to ask Abby to come in for an interview.
That's great.
Thanks for your help, Rob.
Hi, Joe.
Hi, Susie.
Hey, can you help me?
Sure! What do you need?
I'm looking at apartments.
Can you tell me about some different areas of the city?
Of course.
Where are you living now?
I'm staying at Rob's apartment.
But my room is very small.
So you want your own apartment?
Maybe. Look. These apartments are for rent.
How many bedrooms do you want?
I only need a one-bedroom apartment.
OK.
But I don't know any of these addresses.
Is this apartment in a safe area?
It's pretty safe.
But this apartment is downtown.
It is loud there.
Oh. I want a quiet apartment.
Here's an apartment in a quiet area.
But it is far from the office.
How far?
It's 20 miles away.
That is pretty far.
Look at this other apartment.
It is across from a big park.
It is in a nice area.
Great.
I can go and look at some apartments tonight.
Thanks for your help, Susie.
You're welcome.
Hey, Joe, were you on Washington Street yesterday?
Yes! I was looking at an apartment for rent.
I saw you.
You went into an apartment building near mine.
You live on Washington Street?
Do you like the area?
Yes. It's a nice place to live.
I can walk to shops and restaurants.
That's great.
And there is a big park across the street from my apartment building.
You live in a nice part of town.
It wasn't too noisy.
No, the neighborhood is not very noisy.
And it's not too far from the office.
Right! I can ride my bike here in 20 minutes.
That's great.
Did Rob ask you to move out of his apartment?
No. But his apartment is small.
I'm looking for a different place to live.
Would you be interested in looking at my apartment?
Are you moving out?
No. I need to get a roommate to help pay the rent.
My apartment is pretty big.
It has two bedrooms.
I see.
Does your apartment building have an elevator?
No. The building only has four floors.
I live on the second floor.
Can I come look at your apartment tonight?
Sure!
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to the show.
Today we're talking about renting apartments.
Let's welcome our guest for today, Mr. Casa.
Welcome, Mr. Casa.
Thank you, Rob.
I'm happy to be here.
Before you rent an apartment, what are some things to think about?
First, think about your budget.
The rent shouldn't be more than 30 percent of your income each month.
Good advice.
What else?
Make a list of things you want your apartment building to have.
For example, an exercise room or a laundry room?
And if you have a pet, make sure the apartment allows pets.
That's important.
What else?
After you find an apartment you like, visit the neighborhood at different times.
Visit on a weekday, at night and on a weekend.
So you really know what the neighborhood is like.
Right. And check the apartment itself.
Open the windows, turn on the water, etc.
Right!
You don't want any surprises after you move in!
You want to rent an apartment.
What should you do?
First, look at your budget.
Your rent shouldn't be more than 30 percent of your income each month.
Then think about what you want your apartment building to have.
Do you want an exercise room or a laundry room?
Do you have a pet?
Then make sure the apartment allows pets.
Also, learn about the neighborhood.
Visit on weekdays, at night and on weekends.
Hello, friends.
Chris and I were just talking about the weather.
We had some really bad weather, right, Chris?
Oh, yes.
The sky was cloudy and dark all week.
It kept raining and raining.
The wind was noisy and loud.
That's right.
My apartment had water coming in.
Oh, no!
Really? Was it bad?
Yes. The floor of above me and the floor below me had water everywhere.
A good apartment should have good walls.
They should not allow water in them.
No, they shouldn't.
But now I cannot live in my apartment for a week.
They need to fix the walls.
Oh. So where are you going to live now?
Well, I think I will live with a friend in a neighborhood across town.
Well friends, I hope the weather has been good where you are.
We will be rightback.
