Now it's time to practice our key words by playing Two in...
One.
Now this is the part of our show where we put two key words into one sentence.
Today Kevin will begin.
OK. There was a snake inside the box.
What!? Kevin, did you scream?
No. It... it was my new pet.
OK. Well, the key words Kevin used were "snake" and "inside." OK.
I'll need to talk to him about his new pet.
But now it's my turn.
I get to do a Two in One.
Charles is the youngest member of the sports club.
Hey, that was a great sentence.
Andrea used "young" and "member." Hmm.
"Youngest" means nobody is younger.
OK. Well, we had fun playing Two in One.
Now we hope that you take time to play as well.
And you'll see all of these key words and more as we review today's
conversations.
Hi, Joe!
I have something for you.
Hey, Rob.
Is it some work?
No. I have a gift for you!
A gift? Why?
Yesterday was Chinese New Year's Day.
Happy Chinese New Year!
Here's a red envelope for you!
A red envelope.
Thanks!
You don't know much about this holiday.
I don't! I'm sorry.
Red envelopes are a traditional gift at Chinese New Year.
So people give them to their friends?
Most people don't.
Family members give red envelopes.
Parents give them to their young children.
So your parents don't give you a red envelope anymore?
No, I'm not a child anymore.
I have a job now.
Why are you giving a red envelope to me?
Red envelopes are also for fun.
I'm giving them to friends at the office.
But that's not the custom?
No.
So what's inside a red envelope?
Can you guess?
Money?
Am I right?
You're right!
Thanks, Rob.
Happy Chinese New Year.
Happy Year of the Snake!
Well hello, Ginger.
Ooh, hello, Monkey Man.
Look, I have something for you.
Ooh, what is it?
It's a red envelope.
Oh! Why are you giving me a... an envelope that's red?
Ginger, the envelope has something inside.
Really? What's inside?
Can you guess?
Is it a puppy?
No, it's not a puppy.
Is it a banana?
No, Ginger.
It's something everybody likes.
Oh. Is it a puppy and a banana?
No, Ginger.
There's money inside.
You can buy something.
Hooray! I'll buy a puppy and a banana.
Yes.
Happy New Year, Ginger!
Happy New Year, Monkey Man!
Hello.
(Chinese).
Calendar Phrase.
Can you guess?
Can you guess?
(Chinese).
How old are you?
Can you guess?
No. How much do you weigh?
Can you guess?
No. How much money do you make?
Can you guess?
No. I don't want to guess.
And I don't want to answer!
Can you guess?
Can you guess?
(Chinese).
It's time to Answer It!
Now answering these questions will help us review some of what we learned today.
Here is question number one.
What does Joe not know much about?
What does Joe not know much about?
Well, we know the answer is in Conversation A.
Joe doesn't know much about the Chinese New Year holiday.
All right, question two.
What do you like about Chinese New Year? Why?
What do you like about Chinese New Year? Why?
Let's ask some of our friends.
Chinese New Year?
I love everything about Chinese New Year.
I love the red envelopes with money inside.
And I love the big family meals.
There's so much delicious food.
I love Chinese food.
And of course, I like all the firecrackers.
Chinese New Year is so exciting.
I love everything about it.
Happy New Year!
I like Chinese New Year for three reasons.
1. I can sleep more.
2. I can eat more.
And 3. I can travel more.
During Chinese New Year, I can sleep more because I don't need to go to work.
And during Chinese New Year, I can eat more because there are lots of good
parties with friends and family.
And 3. I can travel more because I have more time.
I can see things I really enjoy seeing with friends and family.
What I love to do at Chinese New Year is take pictures, of course.
I love to take pictures of all the delicious food, the wonderful decorations,
the beautiful city,
and of course, my family and friends that I love to spend time with during the
holidays.
When I take pictures, it creates a memory that I can treasure in the future.
What I like about Chinese New Year is the chance to get together as a family.
We decorate the house in beautiful colors, and invite all of our relatives over
for a delicious meal.
My children are so excited to put on new clothes and to get red envelopes from
their aunts and their uncles.
But the best part about Chinese New Year is that we don't have to work, and we
can take the family on a vacation.
Well, those were some great answers.
Now be sure to take time to practice asking and answering this question today.
We'll see you again tomorrow right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Goodbye.
(Music).
