Hello and welcome to Let's Talk in English here at LTE TV.
My name is Kevin.
Thank you for joining me this Saturday.
Now, this week we talked about clothes we wear when it's cold.
Do you have a favorite coat or sweater?
We also talked about what we do at work.
Some people sell things.
They cannot be lazy.
All right.
Why don't we get into our conversations?
(Music).
Hello, Megan.
How are you today?
Hi, Ken.
I'm a little cold.
Did you just get here?
Yes. The weather is very cold today.
Where is your coat?
I don't have a coat.
Why don't you have a coat?
I'm from Florida!
I didn't need a coat in Florida.
Well, you need a coat here.
I'm waiting for a good sale.
Then I can buy some winter clothes.
Do you have any winter clothes?
I have one sweater.
You only have one sweater?
Yes. I wear it a lot!
Some stores are having sales.
I know.
Their winter clothes are 50 percent off.
That is a good sale.
What are you waiting for?
I am waiting for a really good sale!
In February, winter clothes are 80 or 90 percent off!
How do you know that?
Susie told me.
Susie knows about sales.
Susie is nice.
She gave me a winter hat and gloves.
Why aren't you wearing them?
I left them here yesterday!
Hi, Susie.
Here are your hat and gloves.
Thanks, Megan.
So you don't need them anymore?
No. I finally bought my own winter things.
I found the store with some really great sales!
Good!
Now you won't be cold.
Right.
And maybe I won't get sick again.
So what did you buy?
A coat, two hats, a pair of gloves, three scarves, and these new boots!
I need a new pair of boots.
How much did those cost?
They cost $16.
Their original price was $112.
Wow! You got a great deal!
I know!
Oh, and I bought a couple more sweaters and some warm socks.
You're wearing one of your new sweaters.
I like it!
Thanks.
Is that a new belt too?
Oh, yes. I forgot about that.
Was the belt on sale, too?
Yes! Almost everything in the store was on sale.
Where did you go shopping?
I went to Walker's Department Store.
That's across from my apartment!
Are they having a really good winter sale already?
Yes. Many winter things are 80 or 90 percent off.
Then I'm going shopping tonight!
Joe, do you like you job here?
I really like my work, Carol.
But I'm still learning about our different TV programs.
I understand.
I can learn more.
Then I can be a better salesman.
I can sell more ad space for our TV programs.
True.
Do you have any questions for me?
Sometimes I have lunch or dinner meetings with people from different companies.
And you talk about our TV station and its programs.
Right.
Can I pay for the people's meals?
Yes! Keep the receipts. Then the TV station can pay you back.
OK. Good.
Do you have any other questions?
Yes. Do you have any more work for me?
Why do you want more work?
Sometimes, people cancel meetings.
Other people don't call me back very fast.
So you're often waiting.
Right! So what can I do?
My workers don't usually ask for more work!
I do.
I'm not lazy.
Let me ask some of the other workers.
Maybe you can help them with something.
Great. Thanks, Carol.
Hi, Rob.
Can I help you with anything today?
Oh, right, you need more work.
Carol told me.
Sorry, I don't have anything for you right now.
That's OK.
How do you usually spend your time, Joe?
I spend a lot of time with people.
I try to get them to buy TV ad space.
I see you on the phone.
But where are you when you're not at your desk?
I often have meetings with clients.
I see.
Also, I like to watch our TV programs.
Just for fun?
No. I need to know about our programs, so I can sell ad space during them.
That makes sense.
So you don't just take a lot of breaks?
No! I seldom take breaks.
I try to work hard.
I know.
You do seem to be hard-working.
You are always on time.
I try to be.
And you never complain.
I try not to.
That's great.
We're happy to have you here.
Thank you.
Hey! I just thought of a job for you.
Come to my office and I'll tell you about it.
Great!
Thanks for taking time to meet with me, Mr. Business.
I know you're a busy businessman.
You're right.
I want to ask you something.
What do you do when you need to correct one of your workers?
Correcting someone can be hard.
You might feel uncomfortable or think you're being rude.
I have felt that way.
But actually, correcting people helps them.
Explain how it helps someone.
Maybe someone doesn't know a rule.
Or they don't know how you feel about their behavior.
You're helping them understand.
I see.
Also, I only correct someone when no one else is around.
You don't want to embarrass them in front of others.
That's right.
Thanks, Mr. Business.
You seem like a great boss!
Do you have a hard time correcting another person?
It can be hard.
Maybe you feel uncomfortable or think you're being rude.
But actually, you are helping people when you correct them.
You're explaining a rule or helping the person understand how you feel about
their behavior.
When you correct someone, don't do it in front of other people.
You don't want to embarrass them.
Chris, it's cold here in the Jungle Cafe.
Yeah.
I don't think the heater is on.
I guess they are trying to save money.
Yes. It seems like it.
Why don't you wear a coat?
You need to wear more clothes.
You don't want to get sick.
Remember what we talked about last week.
Yeah. I could use some gloves.
I should complain to the Jungle Cafe that it is too cold.
Actually, the manager is turning the heater on.
He looks cold too.
Hmm. You don't need to complain.
Ah, uh, that... that's much better.
Why don't we ask a question about our lessons this week?
Yes!
All right, students.
How much money did Megan pay for her new boots?
I remember the price was $112.
That's... that's right.
She paid $16 for her boots.
That's a great deal.
Sometimes I can find great deals too.
But I don't very often.
Well, that makes sense.
If there was a sale every day, no one would make money.
By the way, how is the Jungle Cafe doing?
Oh, business is good.
People are willing to pay money for good coffee.
The Jungle Cafe makes great coffee.
Our workers... our workers here are not lazy, and they all show up on time.
Wow, that's really good.
It looks like a lot of people like to spend time here.
I'm... I'm kind of thirsty.
I'm going to get a drink.
(Music).
