Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hey, everybody, and welcome to LTE TV.
I'm very glad you could join us here today.
My name is Gabe.
And my name is Andrea.
And today is a very special day.
What day is today, Gabe?
Well, today is Christmas Eve.
It's the day before Christmas.
And we do have a very special Christmas lesson today.
Yes. The title of our lesson is: Christmas Gifts for Some Special Kids.
Well, Christmas is a time to celebrate.
One way to celebrate is by giving gifts.
What kind of gift would you like this Christmas?
Maybe your Christmas wish is for a new toy or a new doll.
Well, we have many things to talk about today.
So let's begin with Conversation A.
Do you wrap presents often, Amber?
You're fast!
I worked at a department store one summer.
I wrapped a lot of gifts for people!
So you had lots of practice.
And now we're wrapping these presents for poor children.
I know. We can help others.
I'm happy!
Me, too!
Many parents can't buy Christmas gifts for their kids.
Amber wraps presents fast.
So Carol asks her a question.
Do you wrap presents often?
Do you do something often?
You can use this questioned to find out if someone does something a lot.
Gabe, do you go swimming often?
No, not as often as I would like.
Andrea, do you go hiking often?
Yes, I go hiking about five times a week.
Do you read books often?
Well yes, I do, Andrea.
I do read books often.
I enjoy reading.
Andrea, do you teach English often?
I do teach English often... well, almost every day.
Yep.
Well, Amber does wrap presents often.
Now when you wrap a present or a gift, you put beautiful paper around it to make
it look nice.
When a gift is wrapped, you don't know what's inside until you open it.
Well, our friends are wrapping presents for poor children.
Let's look at this key word.
poor.
Now if someone is poor, that means they don't have a lot of money.
That's right.
They don't have a lot of money, maybe not many things.
You could talk about poor children, or maybe some families that are poor, or
maybe even some countries that are poor.
Of course, every country has a different amount of money.
If a country doesn't have a lot, then that might be a poor country.
Well, Christmas is a time to give.
And it's good to give things to poor people, especially poor children.
Maybe their parents don't have enough money to buy them gifts.
Well, let's talk about this key word, the holiday Christmas.
Christmas is a special holiday to celebrate God's gift to the world.
And at Christmas, it's fun to give gifts to people.
So it is almost Christmas.
Tomorrow is Christmas Day.
That means today is Christmas...
Eve.
Eve.
Well friends, we have a lot to celebrate, and much more to learn, too.
Let's continue with Conversation B.
Tomorrow is Christmas Day.
The children can open these presents tomorrow!
I know!
Then they can play with their new toys!
Think of their joy!
I think about the children's smiles on Christmas morning.
Then I feel joy!
Me, too.
We're giving.
And that's better than receiving.
True. That's an important part of Christmas!
Right!
Well, it is very interesting that Carol says, "We are giving. And that's better
than receiving." Friends, I agree with Carol.
Giving is better than receiving.
When you receive something, that means you get it.
You take it from someone.
Someone gives it to you.
And you receive it.
Andrea, what do you think about this phrase, "Giving is better than receiving"?
Well, I also agree with it.
It is nice to receive gifts.
I always like getting a gift.
But I do believe that there is more joy in giving.
Giving a gift, or giving your time to someone, or giving money to poor people or
people in need.
That's right, you are happier when you can give.
Well friends, we want to give you a chance to say our key word with us.
It is the word: toy.
Now a toy is something that kids can play with.
What kind of toys did you have as a child?
What was your favorite toy?
Toys are fun.
Toys give children something to do, something to play with.
And of course, there are many different kinds of toys.
My son loves toys that move, like toy cars and toy buses and trucks.
I love toy cars.
And I played with LEGO's, too.
You could build things with these toys.
It was a lot of fun.
Yes. So our key word "toy" is a noun.
But we can also use it as an adjective, like a toy car or a toy truck.
Well friends, right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation C.
This doll is for Molly P.
Remind me again.
How did the TV station get the children's names?
We got a list of children's names from a church.
Oh, that's right!
Yes. The list has the children's ages, too.
It also has each child's Christmas wish.
So we can give the perfect gift to each child!
Gabe, remind me again.
What are the key words in Conversation C?
Oh, that's easy.
"Doll" and "wish," Andrea.
Oh, yes, yes. That's right.
Uh, I'm sorry. Remind me of them again?
Um, Andrea, I just told you - doll and wish.
Ah, yes! OK. Thank you for reminding me.
Well, we see this phrase "remind me again" in our conversation.
Now if you forget something, and you want someone to tell you that thing, then
use this phrase.
Remind me again.
Remind me again. What's your name?
Or, remind me again. What time are we going to meet?
Well, let's take a look at our first key word here.
It is "doll." Now a doll is a kind of toy.
A doll often looks like a baby.
And girls enjoy playing with dolls.
That's true. Dolls often look like babies.
And so sometimes you call dolls "baby dolls." There are many different kinds of
dolls.
I remember my little sisters had dolls whose eyes could close.
If the baby doll was on its back, the eyes would close to make it look like the
doll was asleep.
Did you ever play with your sisters' dolls, Gabe?
Oh, no. I... I didn't think that was interesting.
I just noticed.
I noticed them playing with their dolls, Andrea.
OK. OK.
Well, I think that Molly P is going to have a wonderful Christmas wish come true
when she gets her doll.
Let's talk about this key word.
wish.
Now a wish is something that you hope will happen.
It's something that you really hope will happen.
Your wish.
Your wish.
Well, what is your Christmas wish?
What do you want for Christmas?
What about your birthday wish?
What do you want this year?
Tell us your wish.
Well, we hope that your wishes come true.
Now let's keep learning with Ginger and the Monkey Man.
That is so kind.
What's so kind?
Giving presents to poor monkeys.
No, Ginger.
They're giving presents to poor children, not poor monkeys.
Hey, why don't they give presents to poor monkeys?
I don't know.
But giving gifts is always very kind.
Yeah, children will open their presents and smile, smile, smile.
Yes, they will.
It's good to give gifts.
It's good to get gifts, too.
True. But giving gifts is better than receiving gifts.
Right. So give me a gift.
Where's my gift?
Hmm, Ginger...
Please review today's key words with us.
