Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk in English right here at LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
And my name is Andrea.
Today we continue our lesson about colors.
Colors... Colors... Well, they are everywhere.
Look around.
Which colors do you see?
Can you talk about those colors in English?
Do you see green?
Or do you see blue?
Maybe you see pink or yellow.
Well, we are going to keep talking about colors and how you can talk about
colors or describe them in English.
So please open your magazine.
There's a lot of colors in there.
And let's begin.
Hi, Ken.
Ken, I said, "Hi!".
Oh! Hi, Susie.
Sorry, I was thinking about something.
Why do you have so many paint chips?
I'm planning to paint my apartment.
That's great!
What colors are you thinking about?
Well, I like these shades of green.
Ooh. I like those, too.
This one is my favorite.
I like it, too. It's called grass green.
Well, Ken is thinking about a lot.
He doesn't even hear Susie when she says, "Hi!" Now Ken is looking at paint
chips.
Now this is a small chip that has different colors of paint on it.
And when you're thinking about what color to paint a room, you can get these
paint chips to take home and put up on your wall.
It can help you see if you like that color.
So do you need to paint your room?
Maybe you want to paint your house another color.
Well, you can get some paint chips and see which color you like.
Well, Ken does want to paint his apartment.
He wants to paint his apartment another color.
Now, he might like the color green.
That's right. I like the color green.
And "green" is a key word.
What is green?
Grass is green.
Some apples are green.
Frogs are green.
Look around you.
What do you see that is green?
Well, the color Ken is looking at is called grass green.
And we have more to look at in Conversation B.
So will you buy some grass green paint for your apartment?
I don't know.
I like the darker green colors more.
I also like dark colors, but not on walls.
A darker green will look better with my sofa and armchair.
This color is called forest green.
That's a nice color.
What other colors are you considering?
I also like these gray shades.
Blue is always nice, too.
Well, in this conversation we have some key words.
But we also see three different shades of green.
Now in Conversation A, Ken talks about these shades of green.
So in Conversation B, Andrea, what is one of the shades of green?
Well, one of the shades of green is forest green.
Now this is a darker shade of green.
That's right, forest green.
So why do they call it forest green?
Well, it's a kind of shade that you might see a lot in a forest.
So when you describe colors in English, a lot of times it's what the color might
look like in nature.
We see another key word here.
It is "blue." Well, if you look at the sky, that is one color blue.
This is called sky blue.
You could also say ocean blue.
Ocean blue is another kind of blue.
So what is blue?
Well, the sky is blue.
The ocean is blue.
Some birds are blue.
That's right.
Well friends, are you going to paint your apartment?
Maybe you want to paint your room.
Maybe blue is a nice color.
Andrea, do you like the color blue?
I love the color blue.
I think blue is my favorite color.
Ah, blue is your favorite color. Very nice.
Well, I like the color green.
Friends, we do have some other key words here.
At the beginning, Susie says, "So will you buy some grass green paint for your
apartment?" We learned the word "paint" as a verb earlier.
Here, it's a noun.
So you can use paint to paint your room.
Yes, you can go to a store and look at all the different colors of paint that
you can buy.
What color of paint would you paint your walls?
Now Susie says she also likes dark colors, but not on walls.
So she will not use a dark color to paint her walls.
"Wall" is a key word.
If you are in an apartment or a house or an office or a school or a hospital or
any other building, then there are walls around you.
You are in a room that has walls.
So you can paint the walls.
You can also hang things on the walls.
Do you have anything on the walls in your room?
Well, maybe you have pictures on your walls or a poster on your wall.
Well, let's continue to see what happens in Conversation C.
So why are you painting your apartment?
My apartment needs a new look.
Well, my girlfriend thinks that.
I see.
What colors does she like?
She likes light colors.
She painted her apartment pink and yellow.
But I won't do that!
So when will you paint your apartment?
Next year.
Next year?
Yes, next year is only a month away!
Wow, that's right.
Next year is only a month away.
It's the beginning of December.
December is the last month of the year.
So Gabe, a new year is coming soon!
Well, yeah, a new year is coming soon.
That's great.
Well, it is great.
It's also great to think about getting a new look or giving your apartment a new
look.
Well, Ken is thinking of getting a new look.
Or, well, his girlfriend thinks he should get a new look for his apartment.
So that's why he's looking at different colors of paint.
Now we know that Ken likes forest green.
But we find out which colors his girlfriend likes.
Gabe, do you remember which colors she likes?
Well, yes. She likes the colors pink and yellow.
Of course. She likes pink.
And yellow.
And yellow.
OK. Well, "pink" and "yellow" are both key words.
So let's talk about them together.
Yellow is a bright color.
Yellow is a beautiful color.
When I look at yellow, it makes me happy.
What are some things that are yellow, Gabe?
Well, some flowers are yellow.
Some birds are yellow.
Bananas are yellow.
What else is yellow?
Oh, if I don't brush my teeth, my teeth become yellow.
I see.
Well, we know that Ken's girlfriend painted her apartment pink and yellow
because she likes lighter colors.
Pink is a lighter color.
It's a very soft color.
What are some things that are pink?
Well, some fruit is pink.
A peach is pink.
Pigs are pink.
Well, yeah, pigs are pink.
Maybe your lips are pink.
Pink has a little bit of red in it, and of course, white.
So think about the things that are pink.
Think pink.
And talk about these things in English.
Well, Ken won't be painting his apartment pink and yellow.
But I wonder if he will paint his apartment forest green.
Now it's time for us to review our lesson with Ginger and the Monkey Man.
Ooh, I'm hungry.
Can I have some paint chips?
No, Ginger. You can't eat paint chips.
I like chips.
Well, you can eat potato chips.
But you can't eat paint chips.
Oh. What do you do with paint chips?
Well, you look at them.
Each chip is a different color.
Oh. Then what?
Then you choose a color that you like.
And paint your house?
Yes. I like grass green.
I like jungle green.
Yes, it looks like the jungle.
Yeah. And it will look nice with my new yellow sofa!
Ginger, you're not getting a new sofa.
We talked about this already.
Jump, jump, sofa, jump.
It's time to review today's key words together.
It's your turn to practice them with us.
