Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to a new month, a new week of learning together right
here on LTE TV.
I'm Andrea.
And I'm Gabe.
And today we have a special lesson about colors.
Do you like talking about colors?
Well, good!
We are going to talk about colors in English.
Well, what colors do you know in English?
Do you know orange? Red? Blue? Purple? Green?
Hmm, let's see.
What other colors do you know?
Do you know bright colors and dark colors?
Well, orange and purple and bright, these are three of today's key words.
We will talk about them and more.
For now, open up your magazine and let's begin.
Hey, Lily. What are you looking at?
Hi, Rob. I'm looking at sofas.
Do you need a new sofa?
Not really.
But I want some new colors in my apartment.
I see.
Do you want bright colors?
Yes! I'm looking at orange sofas!
Orange is a happy color.
Orange is a happy color.
Yes. Well friends, in this conversation we...
Andrea... Andrea, what are you looking at?
Andrea, what are you looking at?
Oh! Sorry. Sorry. Nothing. Nothing.
I'm not looking at anything.
Oh. OK. Uh, anyway, in this conversation...
Andrea, what are you looking at?
Is it my hair?
No. No. It's... it's nothing, Gabe. Don't worry.
But you just used a great phrase.
What are you looking at?
What are you looking at?
We saw this in Conversation A.
Yes, we did.
What are you looking at?
I thought Andrea was looking at my hair.
It made me feel uncomfortable.
Well, you can ask this question, too.
What are you looking at?
Is your friend looking at something?
And you are curious: What are you looking at?
Well, Lily is looking at sofas.
She is looking at pictures of sofas.
Friends, we know that Lily wants some new colors in her apartment.
And we see some key words here.
The first one is "bright." Say it with me.
bright.
If something is bright, that means you can see it very well when there is light.
A bright color is like yellow or red or pink or orange.
Those are bright colors.
Yes. I like bright colors.
I like to wear clothes that are bright colors.
Bright colors make me happy.
And I think they make Lily happy, too.
She is looking for a sofa.
And she wants a bright color, like orange.
Like orange.
Well friends, orange is not just a fruit.
No, it is not.
It is a color.
Now orange is a color that you get when you mix red and yellow.
You get orange.
And of course, oranges are also orange.
Yes, they are.
Now what is orange?
Well, the sun sometimes looks like it is orange, especially at the end of the
day.
Carrots are orange.
Sweet potatoes are orange... or, some of them are orange.
What else is orange?
Well, talk about that in English.
Right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation B.
Orange is nice.
But sometimes it can be too bright.
Do you like this orange sofa?
It's not bad. But it's really bright.
You're right.
I really like orange.
But this is too bright.
What's your favorite color?
I love purple.
But I don't want a purple sofa.
Orange is a happy color.
Orange is nice.
Well, Rob thinks that sometimes orange can be too bright.
So Lily asks him, "Do you like this orange sofa?" Do you like...?
Now this is a great question to ask someone when you want to find out what they
think about something.
Hey, Gabe...
Mmhm?
Do you like this bright jacket that I am wearing?
No... I'm just kidding, Andrea.
Yes, yes, I do like your bright jacket.
Uh, but I think I like the color purple better.
Is that OK?
Well, that's OK.
I also like purple.
Do you like purple fruits and vegetables?
Do I like purple fruits and vegetables?
Well, I like grapes.
And I like eggplants.
So yeah, I like purple fruits and vegetables.
I see.
Grapes can be purple.
Eggplant is purple on the outside.
And "purple" is a key word.
Purple is a color.
I like purple.
I also like to wear clothes that are purple.
Purple is also a color in the rainbow.
If you ever see a rainbow in the sky, see if you can see the color purple.
Purple is a very nice color.
But Lily does not want a purple sofa.
Right. But maybe she will get an orange sofa, a nice, bright, orange sofa.
Well, we will keep learning in Conversation C.
Do you like this gray sofa? It's nice.
I love it!
But gray is not very bright or happy.
You can put orange pillows on the gray sofa.
Gray and orange.
I like those colors together!
Me, too!
Maybe I can paint my small table gray or orange, too!
Now I want new things for my apartment!
Well, at the beginning of this conversation, Rob suggests something to Lily.
He suggests a gray sofa.
They're looking at pictures of sofas.
And one of the sofas is gray.
Do you like the color gray?
It's a key word.
And it's a mixture of black and white.
So when you put black and white together, you get the color gray.
Now when do we see the color gray?
Well, sometimes the sky looks gray before it is going to rain.
When you see a gray sky, you might see rain soon.
Now this key word "gray" is spelled G-R-A-Y.
But sometimes you also see a different spelling: G-R-E-Y.
Now that's just another way to spell this color.
It's not wrong.
You just have two choices.
That's right, gray or grey.
G-R-A-Y.
G-R-E-Y.
And I agree with Lily.
Gray is not a very happy color.
It's not very bright or happy.
Maybe you think about storms or gray skies when you think about this color.
But gray and orange could go well together.
Now Lily says: Maybe I can paint my small table gray or orange.
"Paint" is our key word here.
When you paint something, you are making it another color.
You use something that's called paint.
And you can paint your table, you can paint your walls, you can paint your room
different colors.
I like thinking of different colors that I can paint in my apartment.
When you paint the walls a different color, you give the place where you live a
new look.
Well, it's time for us to review some of what we learned today with Ginger and
the Monkey Man.
I want a new sofa.
Ginger, you don't need a sofa.
I want a yellow sofa.
You don't need a yellow sofa.
Bananas are yellow.
I like yellow.
Well, yellow is a bright color. Yes.
Yeah, I want a bright yellow sofa.
No, you're not getting a bright yellow sofa.
OK. Then I want a bright orange sofa.
Ginger, you're not getting a sofa.
You don't need a sofa to sit on.
I don't want to sit on a sofa.
I want to jump on it.
Jump, jump, sofa, jump, jump.
No, no, no way, no.
No yellow sofa...
Well friends, we do have some key words to review.
Say them with us.
bright.
bright.
Lorna's dress is red.
The color is very bright.
orange.
orange.
Pumpkins are orange.
purple.
purple.
Alicia's favorite color is purple.
She has many purple things.

My cell phone is gray.

John can paint his living room gray.
And friends, you're doing a great job.
Right now it's time for us to take a littlebreak.
