Hey, everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk in English right here at LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
And I'm glad you could join us here today for our review day.
We're going to review our lessons from this week.
What did we talk about?
Well, you learned how to talk about going to the store.
Where do you shop?
Do you save money by going there?
What else did we learn how to talk about this week?
Well, let's see if we can remember.
Ah, favorite foods!
What do you think is delicious?
Is turkey delicious?
Did you eat it on Thanksgiving?
Or maybe you like foods like fish, crab and noodles.
Well, we talked about much more.
So pay attention.
Listen carefully because Ginger will be here soon.
And we will have some questions just for you.
Hi, Lily. What are you doing?
Oh, hi, Amber.
I am making a list.
What kind of list?
A grocery list.
I'm going to the supermarket after work.
Do you ever shop at Cost Less?
The prices are really good.
The warehouse store?
I'm not a member.
I am! I shop there all the time.
I save a lot of money.
What do you buy at Cost Less?
I buy lots of things!
I buy their chicken.
It's only $1.99 a pound.
But the package is so big.
That's OK.
I cook some of the chicken.
And I put some in the freezer.
Hmm, that's a good idea.
I can do that, too.
You can! You can save money!
How much is a dozen eggs at Cost Less?
You can't buy a dozen eggs.
You can only buy two dozen.
They cost $3.00.
That's a lot of eggs!
You can eat more eggs.
Or you can bake cakes and cookies.
I can. Maybe I can try Cost Less.
Sure! I can take you there after work.
Thanks!
Rob, do you shop at Cost Less?
Sometimes.
The prices are good, but the packages are big.
I know.
I shopped there yesterday with Amber.
I bought a big bag of lettuce.
You'll eat a lot of salad this week!
I will.
I don't want the lettuce to spoil.
I bought two loaves of bread, too.
I put one in the freezer.
That's smart.
What do you buy at Cost Less?
I usually buy meat.
It comes in a big package, so I put it into small bags at home.
And you keep them in the freezer.
That's right. I use them one at a time.
I bought a big bottle of hand soap, too.
I can use that for a long time.
Yes, you can.
I won't need to shop at Cost Less again for a while.
Those big packages will last a long time.
I know.
I got a big jar of honey there last month.
It will last me for a year!
But shoping there was fun.
And you saved money.
Well, yes and no.
I saved money on some things.
But I bought others because they looked so good!
HI, Susie. Are you OK?
Oh, hi, Lily.
No, not really.
What do you mean?
Carol gave me some good news this morning.
But it was bad news, too.
What did she say?
I am going to New York City.
I'm covering the big Thanksgiving Day parade.
That's great!
I know! But then I can't celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.
Thanksgiving is an important time for families.
It is. I love Thanksgiving dinner.
It's my favorite meal of the year.
You can eat Thanksgiving dinner in New York.
I can. But I can't eat my mom's delicious food.
She is a great cook!
Does she cook a turkey?
Yes! And she bakes the best pumpkin pies!
Maybe your mom can save some pie for you.
Yes. Maybe she can save me a plate of turkey and other things, too.
Then you can still eat your mom's food!
Thanks, Lily. I feel better now.
Good. Carol did give you good news.
She did.
You can see a great parade!
And I can have two Thanksgiving dinners!
Lily, what are you thinking about?
What? Oh, I'm thinking about food.
I'm thinking about food, too!
We're talking about Thanksgiving food on our show today.
I wasn't thinking about Thanksgiving food.
I was thinking about Chinese food.
What kind?
I was thinking about crab and Cantonese fried noodles.
Why were you thinking about those things?
Yesterday Susie talked about special Thanksgiving foods.
Now I'm thinking about special Chinese foods!
Like pineapple shrimp?
Yes! And all kinds of delicious fish!
I really miss those dishes!
You can get them at Chinese restaurants here.
I know. But they're not the same.
You're right.
Did you ever go to any wedding banquets in Taiwan?
Oh, yes! I loved the food at weddings.
Did you ever eat shark fin soup?
Yes. But I didn't like it very much.
I feel sorry for the sharks!
I do, too. I never eat it.
But I love Peking duck.
Me, too.
I really want to eat some good Chinese food!
But I also want some good Thanksgiving food!
And that's easier to find here.
Especially at this time of year!
Excuse me, sir.
Can you answer a few questions?
Sure. What's this for?
I'm interviewing people for Let's Talk!
I'd like to know what your favorite holiday foods are.
Hmm, we just celebrated Thanksgiving.
Name your favorite Thanksgiving foods!
Turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes.
My mom makes the best stuffing.
No, my mom makes the best stuffing!
Well, don't tell my mother!
Excuse me!
Can you answer a few questions for me?
Sure.
What are your favorite holiday foods?
Holiday foods?
Ham is my favorite meat on holidays.
Anything else?
Chinese holidays have wonderful foods!
I love rice dumplings during Dragon Boat Festival.
And Chinese meatballs and spring rolls at Chinese New Year!
Don't you just love holiday food?
I do. I wish I could eat some right now!
If you interview a dozen people, you'll get many different answers about holiday
food.
Americans will name favorite meats like turkey or ham.
Many also like sweet potato dishes.
Chinese people enjoy rice dumplings at Dragon Boat Festival time, and meatballs
and spring rolls at Chinese New Year.
Italian and French people enjoy delicious pastries on holidays.
And Spanish people have many sweet treats, especially at Easter.
Everyone loves their favorite holiday treats!
Well hey, everyone.
I am here with Ginger and...
And I am here with you, Gabe.
Yes, you are.
Hey, can you guess what my favorite holiday treat is?
Well, I know exactly what your favorite treat is.
It's bananas.
Hey, how did you Know?
Ginger, it's your favorite treat... always.
It's always bananas.
You only like bananas.
That's not true.
I also like pies... banana pies!
I knew it.
Well, here's review question number one, friends.
What kind of list did Lily make this week?
Ooh, what kind of list did Lily make this week?
She made a grocery list. Yeah.
Great!
And here's question number two.
Where is Susie going on Thanksgiving?
Hmm, where is Susie going on Thanksgiving?
She is going to New York City.
She's going to buy some bananas for her mom.
No, no, no, Ginger.
She's going to cover the Thanksgiving Day parade for LTE TV at New York City.
And then she'll go home and have banana pie!
Ginger, I think you are bananas.
I'm bananas? Haha, hooray!
Friends, I think it's time to take a break.
