Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone.
We are glad you are here with us today.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
And today's lesson is: A New Car.
So do you have your magazine?
You can open it up and find A New Car.
Well, you can find a lesson called A New Car, anyway.
Do you like to ride in cars?
Maybe you drive a car.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find a place to park your car.
Other times, you find a convenient parking spot.
Of course, you need to be careful when you are driving.
You need to make sure that you are driving carefully and obeying the laws, or
you might get a ticket.
But ride and park, convenient, careful, ticket... what do these words mean?
We'll talk about these words and more in today's lesson.
Let's get started right now with Conversation A.
Hi, Rob. Why are you so happy today?
Because I have a new car!
You do? Great!
When did you get it?
I got it last night.
It is brand-new!
What color is it?
It's blue.
Tell me more about it.
It's a small car.
Only four people can ride in it.
Rob and Lily are talking about Rob's new car.
Well, at the beginning of this conversation, Lily has a question: Why are you so
happy today?
Why are you so happy today?
Actually, this is a super sentence.
Why are you so something today?
Well, I can see Andrea looks excited.
Let me ask her a question.
Andrea, why are you so excited today?
Why am I so excited today?
Well, because I am here on LTE TV.
I get to teach with you.
We get to encourage students to learn.
We get to share our joy for teaching.
Well, I have many reasons why I am so excited today.
Those are great reasons.
And this is a good question.
Why are you something right now, or something today?
Why are you excited?
Why are you so happy?
Why are you so sad?
There are different adjectives you can use here.
Practice that phrase in English.
Well, why is Rob so happy?
Andrea, why is Rob so happy?
Because he has a new car.
Yes, the car is brand-new.
No one has owned this car before.
It is new.
And that makes Rob very happy.
Yes, it's new and it's blue.
And four people can ride in it.
"Ride" is our key word here.
When you ride in something, that means you are not driving the car.
You are going for a ride.
You can ride in different things.
You can ride on a bus.
You can ride on a train.
You can take a ride somewhere.
Yeah. So how many people can ride in your car?
If you can take six people in your car, then six people can ride in your car.
How many people can ride on a scooter, Gabe?
Well, safely, two people can ride on a scooter.
That is true.
Well, we have more to learn.
I think that Rob wants to tell us some more about his brand new blue car.
Let's continue with Conversation B.
A small car is nice.
You can park it many places.
That's convenient!
You can.
And a small car doesn't use much gas.
So I can save money on gas!
Did you get a good deal on it?
Yes. I traded in my old car.
I got a good price on the new one.
That's great!
Well, Rob got a good price on his new car.
And we found out more about his brand new car.
We know that it is a small car.
A small car is nice.
Now why is it nice to have a small car?
Or, why is it good to have a small car?
Well, there are many reasons.
But a small car doesn't use as much gas, and so you can save some money on gas.
That's important.
Well, that is important.
It's always good to save money.
And small cars are convenient.
You can part a small car in many places.
"Park" and "convenient," well, those are key words.
Let's talk about the first one together.
park.
Now when you park a car, that means you are not driving the car anymore.
You stop the car when you park it.
You park a car before you go into a store.
You can park a car in front of your house when you are at home again.
You can park your car.
Or, if your a bus driver, you can park your bus.
You can park your taxi.
If you ride a scooter, you can park your scooter somewhere.
If you ride a bicycle, you can park your bike somewhere.
So you can use this verb to talk about different things.
And it's not always easy to find a place to park, so having a small car is
convenient.
Let's talk about this word.
convenient.
Now when something is convenient, it is pretty easy to do.
It's convenient.
What are some things that are convenient, Gabe?
Well, let's see.
Maybe after work or after school, you need to buy something on the way home.
So there might be a store, and it's right there on the way.
It's convenient to go to that store.
That's true. It's convenient.
Well, it's convenient for us to learn more because we have another conversation
just for you.
So let's continue learning with Conversation C.
My new car is fun. It is fast!
Don't drive too fast.
You might get a ticket!
I won't get a ticket.
I'm a good driver. I'm careful.
That's good.
I watch for police cars.
I see one. Then I drive slowly!
But you may not always see them.
Be careful.
Well, I never get tickets.
"You may not always see them. Be careful," Lily says.
Uh, why does Lily want Rob to be careful?
Well, Lily doesn't want Rob to drive fast.
She doesn't want him to get a ticket.
And she wants him to be careful.
That's right, Lily is a good friend.
She wants him to be careful.
And friends, "careful" is a good key word to know.
When you are careful, that means you are not doing anything dangerous.
You are being safe.
You are making sure that you do the right things.
When you go out to cross the street, you look both ways - to the right and to
the left.
That is careful.
Be careful.
Now this is something you might tell someone when you want them to take care.
Now you say this because you care about the person and you want them to be safe.
So when someone leaves your house, ready to drive home, you can say:
Oh, be careful. Be careful.
I hope you have a good drive.
So be careful.
That's right.
Be careful. Don't drive too fast.
You might get a ticket.
"Ticket" is a key word.
And this is not a good kind of ticket.
You don't want this kind of ticket.
If you do something against the law, maybe if you drive too fast and the police
officer sees you, he might give you a ticket.
And you will have to pay a lot of money.
Yeah, like that.
Yes, now when you hear that sound or a sound similar to that, it could mean that
the police wants you to stop your car.
It could mean that you did something wrong or you weren't careful.
And then the policeman can give you a ticket.
Now there are different kinds of tickets.
If you drive too fast, well then you get a speeding ticket.
But what happens if you park your car in a place where you shouldn't park your
car?
I know. I know.
That's called a parking ticket.
And sometimes that can be a lot of money.
So don't park your car in the wrong place.
That's right, be careful.
We don't want you to get many tickets.
Well, we don't want you to get any tickets.
That's right.
Well, Rob says, "I never get tickets." Rob, never say never.
Friends, We'll see what happens tomorrow.
But for right now, let's continue learning at the Jungle Cafe.
Ginger, what are you doing?
I'm driving.
Ginger, you can't drive.
You're a monkey.
I'm driving.
And besides, you don't have a car.
But you have a car.
Can I drive it?
No. My car is a brand-new car.
I know.
I like brand-new cars.
Me, too.
That's why you can't drive it.
I want to drive. I want to drive.
Ginger, you can't drive my brand-new car.
I want to.
But you can ride in it.
Whoa! I want to ride! I want to ride.
Let's get bananas.
Come on, let's go.
Yeah, let's get bananas.
Well friends, now it's time to review these key words.
The first one is: ride.
Say it again.
ride.
Let's ride the bus to work today.
park.
park.
Park your bike over there.
convenient.
convenient.
The bus stops near my house.
That's very convenient.
ticket.
ticket.
Kurt is driving too fast.
He may get a ticket.
And careful.
careful.
The stove is hot. Be careful!
All right, friends, you're doing a great job today.
Right now it's time for all of us to take abreak.
