Let's Talk in English.
Yes, this is Let's Talk in English right here on LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
Today our lesson is: I'm Going on a Tour!
You're going on a tour?
Yes! How exciting! I'm going on a tour!
Have you ever been on a tour?
Do you like going on tours?
Maybe during your next vacation, you can go on a tour somewhere.
You can see the sights of a country.
Maybe the country has a nice river.
And you can go down the river on a ship or boat on this tour.
Well, how much will you have to pay?
I don't know.
Every tour is different.
But tour, vacation, sight, river, pay... these are some key words from today's
lesson.
We'll talk about these and many more things.
So open up your magazine and let's begin.
What are you doing, Carol?
I'm reading about different tours.
Tours? Are you planning a vacation?
Yes! My husband and I are planning a trip.
Where are you going?
We're going to Egypt!
Wow! Egypt!
That's an interesting country.
I know!
We can see and do many things there.
Well, Carol is going to do something exciting.
She is going on a tour.
"Tour" is our first key word here.
A tour is a time where you visit a certain city or a country.
You go on a tour.
Usually there's someone leading the tour, leading your group of people.
And they take you to see many different things in the city.
Yes. So you can take a vacation that is a tour.
Carol says, "I'm reading about different tours." So you can take a tour of a
city, or you can take a tour of a country.
Maybe that tour takes several days.
Or some tours just take an hour or one day.
That's right, there are different kinds of tours.
And this word is also a verb.
You can go on a tour somewhere.
Or you can say: I'm touring this city.
I'm touring the country.
I will tour that country for a week.
You can go on a tour, or you can tour a place.
And oftentimes when you tour a place or when you take a tour, that means you are
on a vacation.
Now I love vacations.
This is a great key word to talk about.
That's right, everybody loves vacations.
A vacation is a time away from work or a time away from school, where you can go
and relax or do something fun.
Do you like to go on vacations?
What do you like to do on your vacations?
Well, I enjoy taking trips on my vacations.
So people often take a trip on their vacation.
Or some people just like to stay at home and have a vacation at home.
You know, some people call those "staycations." It's kind of a new word.
A staycation.
You stay in your city and have a vacation, away from work.
Well, what was the last vacation you took?
Where did you go during your last vacation?
Talk about that in English.
And your English will get better.
Friends, right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation B.
You can see the Pyramids!
I know! I'm so excited!
Did you choose a tour?
No! We're still thinking.
Some tours are cheap.
Some are expensive.
Tell me about one of the tours.
I'm reading about the "Exciting Egypt" tour now.
It's a 14-day tour.
On it, we can see all the important sights.
Yes, you can see the Pyramids in Egypt.
Well, it would be so exciting to go to Egypt.
Now when you think of Egypt, what do you think of?
Gabe, what do you think of when you think of Egypt?
Well, I do think of the Pyramids.
There are three famous Pyramids.
And they are kind of like big triangles in the desert.
I also think of the Nile River, Andrea.
Yes, the Nile River.
It's a river that has a lot of history around it.
So there are many sights that you can see when traveling to Egypt.
Well, let's talk about this key word.
sight.
Now when you are traveling, you want to see important sights.
A sight is a place that is interesting.
A sight is a place that you can learn about.
And many sights are famous.
And Carol wants to see all of the important sights.
Now there are many famous sights in the world.
Maybe we can talk about a few of these sights.
One famous sight is the Great Wall of China.
That is a famous sight.
Another famous sight is the Eiffel Tower.
Maybe you have traveled to Paris.
I'm sure that the Eiffel Tower was part of a tour that you took there.
Well, Carol and her husband are choosing a tour.
Carol is looking at a 14-day tour.
That's a long tour.
But she can see all of the important sights.
Well, we've learned many important things.
So we have more to learn together right now with Conversation C.
That tour must be expensive!
It is!
We can't pay that much for a tour!
The "Egypt in Eight Days" tour is good, too.
Can you see the Nile River on that tour?
Yes! And we can visit three cities.
We can visit museums and other sights, too.
You can learn about Egypt's history.
That's great!
All right.
Well, what did Carol and her husband find out about the "Exciting Egypt" tour?
Well, they found out that it is too expensive.
They can't pay for that tour.
That's right, it's too much to pay.
Well friends, we do have a key word here.
It is the word "pay." When you pay for something, you take out your money or
your credit card, and you give money for something.
You can pay for your food at a restaurant.
You can pay to watch a movie at the theater.
You can pay for things when you buy them.
And if you go on a tour, you might pay a lot of money.
Yes, tours can cost a lot of money.
But you do see a lot of things.
Now the past tense of the verb "pay" is "paid," P-A-I-D.
I paid $5 for lunch today.
So remember the difference: "pay," and then the past tense is "paid," P-A-I-D.
Well, Carol and her husband don't want to pay too much.
And so there's another tour here.
It's called the "Egypt in Eight Days" tour.
And on that tour, they will be able to see the Nile River.
Friends, "river" is our next key word.
A river is a body of water.
It flows from one place to another.
Often a river will go into the ocean.
Yes. And it's nice to tour a city on a river.
So you can take a boat on a river and tour a city.
Many big cities have a river going through it.
That's right, many societies have rivers close by or water close by.
So what else can you do in a river?
Well, of course you can take a boat on a river.
Some rivers are very clean.
Oh, man. That makes me think there are a lot of dirty rivers in the world today.
But still, I think some rivers you can play in.
That's true. You can swim in some rivers.
But of course, you want to check if it's OK, if you can swim in that river.
That's right.
Well friends, we have talked about a lot here today.
Carol and her husband will go on an exciting tour in Egypt.
And we're going to have an exciting time with the Monkey Man and Ginger.
Let's go on a tour.
Well, where would you like to go?
Oh, let's go to Egypt.
It's an interesting country.
Yes, it is. You can do many things in Egypt.
Yeah, yeah. Let's take a 14-day tour.
Uh, 14-day tour might be too expensive.
Let's take a 7-day tour.
Hmm, 7-day tour's too expensive, too.
Oh. But I want to see Egypt.
I know. Let's take a 2-hour tour!
A 2-hour tour of Egypt?
That's right, we can take a video tour of Egypt!
A video tour?
Yes, we can watch a DVD.
Won't that be exciting?
Yeah! Let me pack my suitcase.
OK, friends, let's review our key words.
Say them with us.

But we will take a break.
And then we'll be right back.
See yousoon.
