Hey, everyone.
Welcome to the Saturday show of Let's Talk in English right here at LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
And yes, it is a Saturday, so it's a review day.
What did we talk about this week?
What were our lessons?
Well, you learned how to talk about haircuts in English.
That's right.
Where do you get your hair cut?
Do you go to a salon or a barber shop?
Is it expensive or inexpensive?
What else did we learn about?
We learned about fun sports.
Are you a soccer or a tennis fan?
What kind of sports do you like?
What kind of shoes do you wear when you play these sports?
Maybe it's your dream to become a pro athlete one day.
Well, we have a lot to review.
So let's do that now.
Listen carefully because Ginger and I will have some questions just for you very
soon.
Hi, Susie. Did you cut your hair?
No, I never cut my own hair!
Did you get your hair cut?
Yes, I did!
No one else noticed!
Where do you get your hair cut?
I often go to a place by the supermarket.
It's fast and cheap.
How about you?
I go to Sam's Salon.
It's downtown.
You go to a salon downtown?
That must be expensive.
It is.
Why do you go downtown for a haircut?
Sam's Salon is great!
I really like my stylist.
Does the same person cut your hair every time?
Yes. Sam cuts my hair.
He is a great stylist.
Really?
A different person cuts my hair each time.
So can anyone cut your hair?
Sure. Anyone can cut my hair.
A student can cut your hair!
A student?
There is a beauty school by the library.
The students are studying to become hair stylists.
So they practice on people?
Right. And you get a very cheap haircut.
Sometimes the haircuts are free!
I can go there next time!
Where do you get your hair cut, Rob?
I go to a barber shop on First Street.
It's a very small shop.
I know that place.
Do you like your barber?
He's OK.
Why do you ask?
Do I need a haircut?
No, your hair looks fine.
It's a nice style.
Oh, thanks.
Susie and I were just talking about hair salons.
Did you ever get a haircut at a salon in Taiwan?
Oh, yes!
Those salons are fantastic!
They give great massages!
I agree.
They wash your hair and massage your head.
They massage your neck, back, arms and hands, too!
Do you ever get a massage at salons here?
Yes, but the massages aren't very long.
I went to a salon once.
The stylist gave me a terrible haircut.
Oh, really?
Why was it terrible?
The stylist wanted to give me a certain style.
And you didn't like the style?
No! I told the stylist.
But the stylist didn't listen.
He just cut my hair in that style.
What salon was that?
Who was the stylist?
It was Sam at Sam's Salon.
Bye, Amber. Have a good night.
You, too, Ken.
What are you doing?
I'm stretching.
Why are you stretching?
I play basketball with some friends every Wednesday.
I stretch first.
Then I go to the park.
That's great.
Basketball is a fun sport.
Yes, it is!
Maybe I can come and watch a game.
Or you can come and play with us!
No thanks. I'm not very good at basketball.
That's OK. You can still come and play.
I can't play basketball in these clothes!
True. And you can't run in those shoes.
I can't run in any shoes.
Really?
Really. I'm not fast.
I'm not very good at sports.
You exercise often.
Yes, I walk or swim.
But I don't play many sports.
But sports are fun!
I know.
I watch sports. I enjoy that.
But you don't play many sports.
No.
Do you really need another player?
Yes! We need another player.
Ask Lily. She likes sports.
Oh, OK. Thanks, Amber.
That was a great basketball game, Lily!
Thanks for playing.
You're welcome, Ken.
It was fun.
I don't play basketball very often.
Really?
Well, you played very well.
You helped us win the game!
Thanks.
I like basketball, but it's not my favorite sport.
What is your favorite sport?
I love volleyball!
Volleyball is fun, too.
I played volleyball in high school.
That's great.
I was on the tennis team in high school, too.
Maybe tennis is my favorite sport.
Hey, could we play tennis sometime?
I'd like to become a better tennis player.
Sure. I can give you some tennis tips.
Do you have two tennis rackets?
I do!
Perfect!
How about you?
What's your favorite sport?
Soccer! It's the best sport!
But you have to run so much in soccer.
True.
But when you kick the ball and score, the fans get so excited!
Are you good at soccer?
I'm OK.
Tell me when you're going to play.
So you can play, too?
No, so I can be your fan!
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you enjoy sports?
Do you ever dream about having a sports job?
Well, today's show is just for you.
Let's welcome our special guest, Mr. Sports.
Thanks for joining us today, Mr. Sports.
You're welcome, Rob.
I'm always excited to talk about sports.
Great.
A lot of young people are interested in sports.
Are there any jobs in sports?
Sure!
Kids with a lot of talent become pro athletes!
You're right.
Many kids dream of being paid to play a sport.
But not many become pros.
An athlete who knows a lot about a sport can become a coach or a team manager.
Do managers always work with pro athletes?
No, I don't.
Tell us about your job.
I'm a golf club manager.
I take care of everything at the club and on the course.
And I teach golf lessons!
I've always wanted to take golf lessons.
Would you like a golf lesson right now?
Sure. Thanks, Mr. Sports!
Many young people love sports.
Some dream of becoming pro athletes when they get older.
But for most young people, this is only a dream.
They don't have enough talent to get paid to play a sport.
But there are other sports jobs they can do.
Some athletes become coaches.
They help other athletes play the sport better.
Others become managers for sports teams.
Others become managers for golf courses or tennis clubs.
Well, hello again, everyone.
I am here with Ginger.
And I'm here with Gabe.
Yes.
I want to be the coach of a sports team.
What? But Ginger, you're a monkey.
What team do you want to coach?
The Jungle Bananas.
Wait. Wait. The Jungle Bananas?
Well, what sport do they play?
It's a new game - banana ball.
Banana ball?
That sounds really messy.
Well Ginger, here's a question for you, and it's about sports.
So you should know the answer.
OK, question number one.
What is Mr. Sports' job?
What is Mr. Sports' job?
Oh, oh. He's a golf club manager.
Great job, my dear monkey friend.
Now do you have a question for us?
Yes, I do.
It's about salons.
What is special about salons in Taiwan?
Hmm. Do you know the answer?
What is special about salons in Taiwan?
They do more than just cut your hair.
They wash your hair and massage your head.
Gabe, I can do that.
Do what?
Wash your hair and massage your head.
You can wash my hair and massage my head?
I don't think so, Ginger, not after you play monkey ball with your banana
friends...
I mean, banana ball with your monkey friends.
Friends, I think it's time for us to take a little break.
Yeah.
