Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hey, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
And my name is Andrea.
And today we are going to have fun!
Yes, learning English can be fun.
And today we are talking about Fun Sports.
Now do you enjoy playing sports?
Do you like to run in a game of soccer or basketball?
Do you have special shoes that you wear when you are a player in a game?
Well, sport, game, run, shoe, player... these are all key words in today's
lesson.
And we are going to have fun as we talk about sports in English.
Now let's begin with Conversation A.
Bye, Amber. Have a good night.
You, too, Ken.
What are you doing?
I'm stretching.
Why are you stretching?
I play basketball with some friends every Wednesday.
I stretch first.
Then I go to the park.
That's great. Basketball is a fun sport.
Yes, it is!
Maybe I can come and watch a game.
So in Conversation A, we find out that Ken plays basketball.
He is stretching.
He is getting ready to play.
Well, at the beginning of our conversation, Ken says, "Bye, Amber. Have a good
night." Have a good night.
Well, Amber is leaving the office.
So why does Ken say, "Have a good night"?
Well yeah, that's a good question.
It's not night yet.
It's the evening, so it's getting close to the end of the day.
But he just wants to say goodbye.
That's a way that you can say goodbye because you're not going to see someone
again until the next day.
Right. So you can say: Have a good night.
Or you can say: Have a good evening.
You want someone to enjoy their time, enjoy the rest of the day, or you just
want to say goodbye.
Well, Amber doesn't leave right away.
She talks to Ken.
And we find out that Ken enjoys sports.
Amber says, "Basketball is a fun sport." "Sport" is a key word.
Yes, we are talking about sports.
Basketball is a sport.
Baseball is a sport.
A sport is something that is active.
You can watch sports on TV.
Or you can play sports.
Can you play different sports?
What kinds of sports can you play?
What is your favorite sport?
Talk about that in English.
Do you like soccer?
Do you like football?
Do you like basketball or baseball or volleyball or Ultimate Frisbee?
What is your favorite sport?
One of my new favorite sports is surfing.
I love riding the waves in the ocean.
Ooh, that sounds like a fun sport.
It's great.
So yes, you can play some sports.
Or you can go surfing.
And sometimes you might even play a sports game.
If you like soccer, you can play a game of soccer.
If you like basketball, you can play a game of basketball.
"Game" is a key word.
Now when two teams are playing together, they are having a game.
A game of something, like a game of basketball or a game of soccer.
It could be two teams or two people.
Or maybe you are playing video games by yourself.
There are many different kinds of games to play or games to watch.
Right. So not all sports have games, right?
You can go swimming.
That's not a game.
But some sports are games, like basketball and baseball and soccer.
Well, we have more to talk about sports.
So let's keep learning with Conversation B.
Or you can come and play with us!
No thanks. I'm not very good at basketball.
That's OK. You can still come and play.
I can't play basketball in these clothes!
True. And you can't run in those shoes.
I can't run in any shoes.
Really?
Really. I'm not fast.
I'm not very good at sports.
Well friends, we do have some key words from this conversation.
Ken says, "You can't run in those shoes." Two key words here.
The first one is "run." Do you like to run?
You use your legs to run.
It's faster than walking.
It's faster than jogging.
You are running somewhere.
Yes, you run.
Now maybe you run for fun.
Or maybe you run for a long time to get exercise.
I love running.
I like running, too, Andrea.
But I get tired after a while.
Well Gabe, don't... don't stop!
We need to keep running as we teach this key word: run.
Right, of course.
Mmhm.
Do you like to run?
You can say, "I like to run." I run for exercise.
Or I run for fun.
Or you can say, "I go running." OK, Andrea, I'm... I'm finished.
Well Gabe, maybe we should stop running right now because our shoes are not the
right shoes to run in.
Well, that's why I stopped running because my shoes are not good for running.
Good. Very good, Andrea.
And the key word here is: shoe.
Yes, Andrea and I are both wearing shoes on our feet.
I put on my socks first.
And then I put on my shoes.
Yes, shoes.
So you wear shoes to protect your feet.
And you wear different shoes for different reasons.
If you're wearing a fancy dress, you might wear high-heeled shoe.
Those are fancy shoes that women wear.
But of course if you are running, if you want to take a run, you need to wear
running shoe.
Now these shoes will help protect your feet as you run.
Yes, there are many different kinds of shoes.
People use different shoes for running than they do for playing basketball
sometimes.
Maybe you have different shoes for different things.
Well friends, we want to continue learning with Conversation C.
Here we go.
You exercise often.
Yes, I walk or swim.
But I don't play many sports.
But sports are fun!
I know.
I watch sports. I enjoy that.
But you don't play many sports.
No.
Do you really need another player?
Yes! We need another player.
Ask Lily. She likes sports.
Oh, OK. Thanks, Amber.
Well, we find out that Amber doesn't play a lot of sports, but she does watch
sports.
So you can play sports or watch sports.
Well Gabe, would you rather watch basketball or play basketball?
Ah, good question.
Andrea, I don't think I'm a very good basketball player.
I do enjoy playing basketball.
But I like watching other players play basketball because they can do some
really cool things.
I think I would rather watch other players play basketball.
Oh. OK, good answer, Gabe.
And Gabe used our key word a lot.
That is "player." Now if you are a basketball player, then you are one of the
people playing basketball.
Are you a basketball player?
Can you play baseball?
Then you are a baseball player.
Or do you know any famous sports players?
Gabe, who is your favorite basketball player?
My favorite basketball player?
Well, I... I really like David Robinson.
He could play basketball pretty well.
Oh, and also, I do like Jeremy Lin.
He is a good basketball player.
He's a great basketball player.
And he is a very famous basketball player.
Well, we've talked a lot about basketball.
You can watch or play sports.
We have more to learn.
But for now, we're going to review some things with Ginger and the Monkey Man.
Hooray for basketball!
Oh, Ginger, you like basketball.
Yes, basketball is a fun sport.
Hmm, can you play basketball?
No. But I can watch basketball.
What do you like best about watching basketball?
I like the snacks - popcorn, chips, bananas.
No, no. What do you like best about the game?
What game?
Basketball!
Do you like the action, the teamwork, the players?
Oh, I like the basketball best.
Uh, the basketball?
Yeah, it's orange and round and it bounces.
Yes, but...
Without the basketball, the game would be boring.
Ginger...
Hello, everyone.
It is time for us to review today's key words together.
So let's go.
The first one is: sport.
sport.
What is your favorite sport?
I love baseball.
game.
game.
We can watch the baseball game at 7:00.
run.
run.
These shoes are great!
I can run fast in them.
shoe.
shoe.
These shoes are old.
I need new shoes.
player.
player.
We need two more players.
Then we can play a game.
Great job, everyone.
Now it's time for us to take a break.
But be sure to come backagain.
