Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to our show.
Now we hope you are ready to learn with us today.
My name is Andrea.
And I am Gabe.
Now, what are we learning about today?
Well, we have a very good lesson.
Yes. And I hope that you are very awake for this lesson.
I hope you are not tired.
If you are, you need to wake up because our lesson is called: I'm Tired.
I know. Sometimes we all feel tired.
If you are watching this show early in the morning, you might feel a little
tired.
If you are watching Let's Talk in English late at night, you might feel tired.
What kinds of things might you say when you are tired?
Or how do you talk about being tired in English?
Well, today you're going to find out how.
So open up your magazine.
And open up your eyes.
And let's get started with Conversation A.
Carol, why are you yawning so much?
I'm really tired.
I didn't sleep very much last night.
That's too bad. Why not?
I had too many things on my mind.
I understand.
I can close my eyes.
But my mind doesn't stop.
That's right. And then you can't sleep.
Well, it's true.
If you have a lot of things on your mind...
Oh, yeah.
Maybe you don't feel very comfortable and you're worried about something.
Andrea, you keep making noises.
Yeah, I... I know.
Gabe, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I just have a lot on my mind right now.
It's hard to... to think about our teaching right now.
I... I just have a lot on my mind.
You have a lot on your mind?
Yeah.
Well Andrea, what are you thinking about?
What's on your mind?
Well, I'm thinking about all the things I need to do today.
I'm thinking about my family.
I'm thinking about my friends and...
Oh, no.
And I'm thinking about our key words.
Well Andrea, that's good.
Just think about the key words, OK?
Right now, Andrea, can you help us with the first key word?
Well yes, I can do that.
That's OK.
I'll... I just won't think about the other things on my mind right now.
And if you have a lot on your mind, let's just think about our key word together
right now.
It is "tired." I hope you are not too tired to think about it.
If you are tired, that means you want to sleep.
Are you tired?
Then maybe you didn't get enough sleep, or maybe you need to go to bed soon.
And maybe if you're tired, you make that noise.
That's called yawning.
Y-A-W-N, yawning.
Andrea.
Gabe.
Why are you yawning?
Well Gabe, you just yawned.
Yeah.
So that made me yawn.
You know, oftentimes if one person... yawns, another person yawns because of
that, even if you're not tired.
You're right about that. It's true.
Well friends, don't yawn right now.
We have another word to look at here.
It is "close." When you close your eyes, that means they are not open.
Hey, my eyes are closed.
Well, my eyes are open.
I hope your eyes are open, too.
So you can open and close your eyes.
You can open and close a door.
Please keep your magazine open because we have more to learn right now in
Conversation B.
Did you get up and do something?
Did you read a book?
Did you stay in bed?
I stayed in bed.
I listened to the radio.
Did that help?
No. The songs were really good.
So I sang, too.
I listen to music without words.
Then I can sleep.
Good idea. I can try that next time.
Well, Carol had a lot on her mind.
She couldn't sleep.
And at the beginning of our conversation, Ken asks her a question.
He says, "Did you get up and do something?" Now if you can't sleep, what do you
do?
Well, some people get up and do something else.
Let's talk about this key word.
get up.
Now when you get up out of bed, that means you are not in bed anymore.
You get up.
Maybe you can't sleep at night, and so you need to get up and walk around.
Maybe you get up to go and drink something, and then you go back to bed.
Maybe you need to get up to go to the bathroom.
Or you get up in the morning because you have to go to work or school.
Now Gabe, is it easy for you to get up in the morning?
Very good question, Andrea.
No. Actually, I do like getting up.
I get up two or three times every day because I'm sleeping... you know, taking
lots of naps.
That's funny. That's funny.
Gabe would rather just stay in bed.
So when you stay in bed, you don't get up.
You just keep sleeping or keep relaxing.
But of course, we all need to get up in the morning and enjoy a new day.
And now we need to keep learning with Conversation C.
What else helps you sleep?
Sometimes I count sheep.
That does not help me.
Sometimes I eat or drink something.
Then I can fall asleep.
Good idea.
I can drink a glass of milk or something.
So what was on your mind last night?
Are you worried about something?
Can I help you?
No. You can't help.
One, two, three... One, two, three... Three, two, one.
Uh yes, I have three sheep here.
I am counting sheep.
OK. Yes, this is interesting.
Gabe, why are you counting sheep?
Well, because that's what our lesson talks about.
Um, I'm trying to fall asleep.
And if I can't fall asleep, then I will count sheep.
I have three sheep here.
OK, that's true.
If you can't fall asleep, some people do count sheep.
But Gabe, I don't think you are counting right because you only have two sheep.
I only have two sheep?
Yeah, one, two.
That black thing is not a sheep.
That's not a sheep?
No.
Oh, how silly of me.
This is a pig.
I have two sheep. One, two. Two sheep.
I just counted my sheep.
You did.
And we have two key words. One, two.
Let's look at the first one together.
It is "count." Now when you count something, you are talking about numbers.
You count to see how many of something there are.
You can count the people in the room with you right now.
Or you can count how many minutes you have until your favorite TV show ends.
Or you can count your blessings.
That is the good things in your life.
Think about them. Count them.
You can even write them down.
Well, I have two sheep here.
I counted my sheep.
And I have one more key word to talk about.
It is "fall asleep." When you fall asleep, that means you're not awake anymore.
Every night when you go to bed, there is a time when you fall asleep.
For some people, it's hard to fall asleep.
So they think about, or they imagine sheep, and they count them.
That way, your mind is thinking of something else, so maybe you can fall asleep.
Well, we have some things to review with Ginger and the Monkey Man.
Ginger, why are you yawning?
I'm yawning because I'm tired.
Why are you tired?
I'm tired because I couldn't sleep.
And why couldn't you sleep?
I was worried.
Why were you worried?
I was worried because I kept yawning.
Did you get up and do something?
No. I was too tired to get up.
Maybe next time you can count sheep.
But I don't have any sheep.
You... you don't need sheep to count sheep.
Yes, I do.
I can't count sheep if I don't have any.
Uh, never mind.
I can't help you.
All right, friends.
I hope you are not too tired to review these key words because the first one is:
tired.
tired.
Mary works too much. She is tired.
close.
close.
James closed his eyes.
get up.
get up.
What time do you get up in the morning?
count.
count.
How many people are there?
Can you count them?
fall asleep.
fall asleep.
Aidan doesn't fall asleep until late at night.
Ah, Aidan, you need to get more sleep, man.
Well, right now it's time for us to continue by taking a break.
And we'll be right back.
