Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone and welcome to a new month of learning together right here on LTE
TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
It is a new month and a new season.
Well, today's lesson is called A New Season.
What is new about this season?
Well, you know the seasons of the year, right?
Spring, summer, fall and winter.
Of course, with this season, you might need to wear a jacket, start wearing warm
things because the weather is getting a little bit cooler.
It is fall now.
What kinds of things will you see in the fall?
What kinds of things will you learn about in today's lesson?
Well, let's find out.
Open up your magazine.
Let's go to Conversation A and begin with A New Season.
Good morning, Susie!
Good morning, Rob.
Brr! I'm cold today.
Where's your jacket?
I didn't bring it!
The weather was warm yesterday.
I know.
But the weather is changing.
It's autumn!
I'm glad. Autumn is my favorite season.
Why is autumn your favorite season?
I like autumn weather.
It's nice and cool.
It is. So bring you jacket tomorrow!
Yes, Susie, please bring your jacket tomorrow.
The weather is changing.
It's nice and cool outside.
Well, at the beginning of this conversation, Susie says, "Good morning, Rob."
B-R-R...
Um, Andrea, what is B-R-R?
B-R-R is brr, brr.
Yeah, say that with us.
Brr. Brr.
People usually write B-R-R if they are cold.
It's a sound that you make if you are cold.
Brr.
And in English, if you see B-R-R, someone is probably cold.
Well, Susie is cold today.
Where is her jacket?
She's not wearing one.
But "jacket" is our key word.
A jacket is something that you can wear to keep warm.
Andrea, are you wearing a jacket today?
Well yes, I am wearing a kind of jacket.
Now this jacket doesn't really keep me warm.
It's a jacket that I can wear inside and outside.
So it is a light jacket.
But if it is cool outside or even cold outside, then you may have to wear a
heavy jacket that will keep you very warm.
So when you go outside, you have your warm jacket on, then you might not have to
say, "Brr! It's cold," because you'll be warm with your jacket.
So you could have a light jacket, or a heavy jacket for the winter when it's
really cold.
Maybe you are wearing a suit, and you have a suit jacket on.
That looks very nice.
Well, we have another key word here.
It is "season." Say it again with me.
season.
Now a season is a time of the year.
And we have four seasons every year.
Andrea, what are the four seasons?
The four seasons are: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
That's right. These are the four seasons.
Which of these four seasons is your favorite season?
Talk about it in English.
Right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation B.
I also like fall because of pumpkins!
Do you eat them or decorate with them?
Both!
I like pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies and pumpkin coffee!
And don't forget pumpkin soup!
Delicious! I love pumpkin!
I like it, too.
So how do you decorate with pumpkins?
I put them in my kitchen, living room and on the balcony!
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin coffee pumpkin soup.
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin coffee...
Pumpkin soup.
Very nice.
Wow! You know, that... that takes a lot of practice to say so many words with
"pumpkin" in them.
I think so, too.
Pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin cookies.
And pumpkin coffee?
Andrea, what's pumpkin coffee?
Well yes, in the fall, some coffee shops sell pumpkin coffee.
It's coffee that tastes like pumpkin.
Some people really enjoy it in the fall.
Well, let's talk about that key word.
fall.
Now the fall is a season.
"Fall" is another word for autumn.
I can say, "I enjoy autumn," or "I enjoy fall." They have the same meaning.
And I do enjoy fall.
The weather is cooler in the fall.
I like walking around during the fall because I see many changes around me.
If you look at the trees and the leaves in the fall, they change colors.
The leaves will change colors in the fall.
Well, just like Susie, I like fall because of pumpkins.
And "pumpkin" is a key word.
Now Gabe, you have a pumpkin.
Well yes, I am holding a big orange pumpkin, Andrea.
And pumpkins can make some very delicious foods.
That is true, like pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin cookies.
Pumpkin soup.
And pumpkin bread.
Ooh. Wow, I'm... I'm getting hungry.
Gabe, maybe we should cut your pumpkin and make something with it.
Good. I just need a knife to cut my pumpkin with.
And uh, when you cut a pumpkin open, you will see many, many seeds inside.
It looks kind of messy.
But you can use what's inside of a pumpkin to make some delicious food.
And you can even decorate a pumpkin.
That's true. You can eat a pumpkin or decorate with a pumpkin.
And we can learn more right now with Conversation C.
Do you carve pumpkins?
Yes! I carve faces or pictures on them.
And sometimes I paint them.
Fun!
Where do you buy your pumpkins?
I can buy them at the supermarket.
But I usually pick my own pumpkins at a pumpkin patch!
Do you go every fall?
I do!
When are you going? Can I go?
Sure! Let's go this weekend!
So Rob and Susie might go to a pumpkin patch this weekend.
They might pick their own pumpkins.
Friends, the key word here is "pick." When you pick something,
that means it is maybe on the ground or on a tree or on a bush, and you can pick
it off.
So you can pick pumpkins out of a pumpkin patch.
You could pick cherries out of a cherry tree.
You could pick blueberries off of a blueberry bush.
You can pick flowers from a garden.
Or you can pick an apple from an apple tree.
And it is fun to go to a pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkin.
A pumpkin patch is the place where pumpkins grow.
And of course, you can look at all the pumpkins, and then choose or pick the one
that you want.
That's right.
So this word "pick" can mean to take something off of something.
Or it could mean to choose.
You can go to the supermarket and choose which apple you want.
Well, what else can you do with a pumpkin?
At the beginning of the conversation, Rob says, "Do you carve pumpkins?"
C-A-R-V-E.
That means you use a knife and you cut out some part of the pumpkin.
You can carve a pumpkin.
Well friends, we have talked about a lot today.
And right now it's time for us to continue by learning something with the Monkey
Man and Ginger.
Ah, fall.
Oh no! Look out! Look out!
Look out for what?
Fall. I don't like to fall.
Falling hurts.
No, I don't mean falling.
I mean fall. Fall is a season.
Oh. Fall is coming, too.
That's right. I like fall.
Me, too. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons.
Why do you like it?
Well, I like the cool weather.
We can wear our jackets.
I don't have one.
I have a fur coat.
I also like pumpkins.
Why do you like pumpkins?
Ooh, you can decorate with pumpkins, and you can eat them.
Yeah, pumpkins are OK, but bananas are better.
You always say that.
Well, it's always true.
I want to go to the banana patch.
All right, friends, let's review our key words.
Say them with us.
jacket.
jacket.
Bill wears a jacket on cool days.
season.
season.
Spring is a warm season.
fall.
fall.
The weather is cool in the fall.

Look at the big orange pumpkins!
pick. pick.
Jessica picked apples from the apple tree.
Very nice job, friends.
Right now it's time for us to take abreak.
