Oh. Well hello, everyone.
And welcome to the Saturday show right here at Let's Talk in English.
My name is Gabe.
And it is Saturday.
That means it's a review day.
We have some lessons to review today.
Do you remember what these lessons were about?
That's right.
You learned how to talk about directions.
North, south, east, west, left and right.
You also learned how to talk about giving directions.
Can you give good directions?
I hope so.
We also learned how to talk about our families.
Of course, you already know how to share about your families.
But do you know how to talk about your families in English?
We also learned about the Moon Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival.
And of course, you learned how to talk or tell others about a holiday.
Now, Ginger will be here soon.
And we have some questions just for you.
So pay attention.
Here we go.
Hi, Rob.
Where is The Blue Onion?
The Blue Onion?
What's that?
It's a new restaurant.
I'm meeting someone there for lunch.
What street is it on?
It's on North Oak Street.
Can I walk there?
Someone is still fixing my car.
Oak Street is about nine blocks from here.
You can walk there.
How do I get to Oak Street?
Go out of the TV station and turn right.
Walk six blocks down Lake Street.
Then I get to Oak Street?
No.
Turn right on First Street and walk three blocks.
Then you're on Oak Street.
OK. I can find that.
What's the street number of the restaurant?
It's 452.
You can walk there in about 15 or 20 minutes from here.
Great.
At Oak Street, do I turn left or right?
Which way is 452?
I'm not sure.
Look at the numbers around you.
OK. The restaurant can't be too far away.
I can find it.
I hope so.
You only have an hour for lunch!
Hi, Susie.
How was lunch?
I didn't eat lunch.
I wanted to eat at The Blue Onion, but I couldn't find it.
Why not?
What's the address?
It's 452 North Oak Street.
I tried to walk there.
You can't walk to North Oak Street from here.
It's too far away.
I know that now.
Who told you to walk there?
Rob did.
He gave me directions to Oak Street.
Oak Street is near here, but North Oak Street is not.
Rob made a mistake.
I know.
I followed his directions.
I could not find the restaurant.
Did you ask anyone about the restaurant?
Yes. A man told me my mistake.
Many people make that mistake.
You can take the subway to North Oaks Street.
Which line do I take?
Take the Blue Line toward Market Street.
How many stops do I ride?
Go three stops.
Get off at the Jefferson High School stop.
How long is the ride?
About 15 minutes.
Great!
Next time I'll ask you for directions!
Good morning, Ken.
How are you?
I'm fine, Rob. But I'm tired.
Why are you tired?
My parents and my grandma are visiting this week.
I am very busy.
Are you taking them places?
Yes. We're going to restaurants, movies and museums.
You are busy!
How long are they staying?
They are staying until Saturday.
My family visits sometimes.
I take them places, too.
Do you have a big family?
I have two sisters and one brother.
That's big.
My mother has three brothers and four sisters.
And my dad has two brothers and one sister.
So you have lots of aunts and uncles.
I do.
And sometimes they all visit at the same time!
Then you're really busy!
Yes.
I have a lot of cousins, too.
Do they ever stay with you?
Some of them do.
But my apartment isn't very big.
And I only have one bathroom!
That's a problem for guests.
Yes.
But my Uncle Zach doesn't stay with me.
I'm so glad!
Is something wrong with your Uncle Zach?
No, he's nice.
But he has a strange habit.
What is it?
He doesn't like to sleep in a bed.
He likes to sleep on the sofa in the living room.
So?
So he also stays up late and watches TV.
And he likes the TV loud.
So you can't sleep.
That's right.
My sister-in-law likes the TV loud, too.
So when I visit my older brother, I don't stay with his family.
I understand.
How many nieces and nephews do you have?
My older brother and his wife have three kids.
I have two nephews and one niece.
None of my siblings are married.
I don't have any nieces or nephews.
My niece and nephews are really fun.
My nephews are 3-year-old twins.
My niece is 5.
Fun! I like little kids.
Uh-oh, can I take this call?
Sure, that's fine.
Hello?
Oh, hello, Uncle Zach!
How are you?
You're coming to visit?
Great! You do?
OK, see you tonight!
So your Uncle Zach is coming to visit.
Yes. And this time he wants to stay with me!
Hi, Ken, would you like a moon cake with your coffee?
OK. What's a moon cake?
It's a traditional pastry.
We eat them at Moon Festival time.
It doesn't look like American cake.
No. It has filling in it.
What kind?
This one has red bean filling.
Others have fruit or nuts in them.
OK, I'll try it.
Mmm, this is good!
My aunt sent me these moon cakes from Taiwan.
When is Moon Festival?
The day after tomorrow.
It's also called Mid-Autumn Festival.
What does it celebrate?
The moon!
It's at its biggest and brightest on Moon Festival!
What do you do on Moon Festival other than eat moon cakes?
Families get together and enjoy a big meal.
And we go outside and look at the moon.
That sounds fun!
People celebrate Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival in September or October.
The date is different every year.
On Moon Festival, the moon is at its biggest and brightest.
Families get together.
Many have barbecues or picnics outside so they can look at the moon.
On Moon Festival, many people enjoy moon cakes.
These traditional pastries can have red bean filling or have fruits or nuts in
them.
Some also have an egg in the middle.
Hey, everyone.
I'm here with Ginger.
And I'm here with Gabe.
Yes. Yes, you are.
And we have some review questions just for you.
Question number one.
Who is visiting Ken this week?
Who is visiting Ken this week?
I know.
His parents and grandma are visiting this week.
Great job, Ginger.
Now do you have a question for us?
Yes.
The question is: What is Rob's Uncle Zach's strange habit?
Hmm, what is Uncle Zach's strange habit?
He doesn't like to sleep in a bed.
He likes to sleep on the sofa in the living room.
That's not too strange.
Well, I don't think so, either.
Sometimes I like sleeping on the sofa in my living room.
It's comfortable.
But you know what is strange?
What's that?
Sleeping in trees.
Hey! I sleep in trees.
I know.
And that's strange.
But I'm a monkey.
I'm supposed to sleep in tress.
I know. I know.
I'm just kidding, Ginger.
You should try sleeping in trees.
It's quite nice.
Hmm. Well, maybe I will.
That tree over there looks quite nice, hmm.
Well friends, it's time for us to take a little break right now.
But we'll be rightback.
