Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone.
And we welcome you to our show.
My name is Andrea.
And I am Gabe.
We are very happy that you could join us here today on LTE TV.
Our lesson is called: What Are Your Plans?
It's a question.
What Are Your Plans?
What are you doing tonight?
What are you doing this afternoon?
What will you do this weekend?
What are your plans?
Will you meet a friend and go somewhere?
Maybe a friend will come in their car and pick you up.
Then you can go somewhere together.
What are your plans?
Well, we have lots to talk about today.
Lots to learn.
Let's open up our magazines and get started with Conversation A.
Hey, Ken! What are you doing this weekend?
I don't have any plans yet, Amber.
Great!
Come with me to the art museum on Saturday.
I love the art museum.
But I went there last month.
There's a special exhibit this month.
What kind of exhibit?
A Disney exhibit!
We can see art from lots of Disney movies!
Very, very interesting.
Well Andrea, my question for you is: What are you doing this weekend?
Oh, I am going to a friend's birthday party.
You are!
I am.
Very cool.
Well, what are you doing this afternoon?
This afternoon I am going to go to the bank.
I have some things to do at the bank.
Very good.
Well, what are you doing right now?
Right now? Well Gabe, right now I am teaching on Let's Talk in English.
Oh yeah.
Let's Talk in English.
What are you doing right now, friends?
You are learning with Let's Talk in English.
And we have a good sentence here at the beginning of the conversation.
What are you doing at some time?
What are you doing this weekend?
What are you doing tonight?
What are you doing right now?
Can you help me?
Can you join us as we look at this key word?
It is: weekend.
Now the weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
Monday through Friday are not the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday, those two days are the weekend.
Oh, I love weekends. I love weekends.
Weekends are a time to celebrate with my family.
They are time to meet friends and just relax.
What about you? Do you like weekends?
Many people say, "I can't wait until the weekend," especially if they have a
very busy week.
We usually think of the week as going from Monday to Friday.
That's when most people go to school or when they work.
That's right.
So when it comes to Saturday and Sunday, you can say, "Have a great weekend." Or
you can ask about someone's weekend plans.
Or, what are you doing this weekend?
Well, what are your plans?
"Plan" is a key word.
Now your plans are what you are going to do.
You have thought about what you will too.
Those are your plans.
Do you have plans for the weekend?
I can't have lunch with you today.
I already have plans.
See if you can put this word into your own sentence.
Well, it seems like Ken and Amber have interesting plans.
There is a special exhibit at a museum, a special show.
It's a Disney exhibit.
Well, I like Disney, Andrea.
I also like Disney a lot.
I do... Well, hey, I think we need to continue and learn what Ken and Amber are
going to do in Conversation B.
Wow! I love Disney movies!
And you love art!
So come with me!
Sure! Let's go.
What time does the museum open on Saturday?
It opens at 10.
But there may be a line.
So let's meet at the museum at 9:30.
All right. Or we can meet for breakfast first.
There's a good place near the museum.
Ken and Amber are going to see the Disney exhibit at the museum.
Well, we find out that they are going to meet at the museum at 9:30 because
there may be a line.
Yes, that's true. There are often lines to get into special places or special
events.
Let's talk about this key word.
line.
When you wait for something, when you wait to get into a place or even onto a
bus, you wait in a line.
People stand in a line.
So there could be a long line of people, especially at an amusement park.
There are long lines in front of big and popular rides.
There are always long lines of people.
But you can have a long line of cars.
Maybe you are driving a car and you need to park in a parking lot.
There are many cars that want to get in.
That is a long line of cars.
If there is a restaurant that is very popular, there can be a long line of
people waiting to get in.
Sometimes we say: Oh, the line is too long. Let's go to another place.
Or: The line is short. We can wait.
And so Amber says, "There may be a line. So let's meet at the Museum at 9:30."
They will meet there.
And "meet" is our key word.
When you meet someone, that is when you will see them.
Yes. Let's meet at 5:00.
Or, I'll meet you at the restaurant after work.
Well Gabe, I think I'm going to have some pizza for lunch today.
Really? Andrea, you know I love pizza.
So come with me!
Really?
Yes.
Well, that's great. I'll go with you to have pizza.
And Andrea, this afternoon, there's a new coffee shop that opened.
I'm going to have some coffee and tea with my friends.
Oh, I love new coffee shops.
I could have some tea there.
Yeah well, come with me!
OK, I'll come with you.
So when you want to invite someone to do something with you, you can say, "Come
with me." Hey, come with me.
Well, come with me now as we look at Conversation C.
What's the name of it?
Howard's Breakfast House.
It's on Dover Road.
I know that restaurant.
OK, let's eat there first.
Maybe I can pick you up.
Then we can just take one car.
Good idea. What time?
Is 8:00 too early?
No! That's a good time.
I'm excited.
Me, too. We can have fun on Saturday!
We can have fun on Saturday?
I think Ken and Amber will have fun on Saturday.
They will meet early for breakfast at Howard's Breakfast House.
And Amber said, "I know that restaurant." I know that restaurant.
You can use this phrase, I know that place or that person or that thing.
I know that restaurant.
Well Andrea, I am going to go to Howard's Coffee Shop this afternoon.
I know that coffee shop. It is great.
It is.
I heard about a new movie that is coming out.
And it is all about flowers.
I know that movie.
But I don't want to see it because it's all about flowers. Yeah.
But I know of a fun game that uses cards with lots of colors, Andrea.
What's the name of it?
Well, it's called Dutch Blitz.
I know that card game. I love Dutch Blitz.
Well, we should play that sometime.
So friends, this is how you use the phrase "I know that something." Well, let's
continue in our conversation.
Ken says, "Maybe I can pick you up." These are our key words - to "pick up"
someone.
This means you are going to drive your car or motorcycle or something, and take
someone somewhere.
Right.
I can pick you up before we go to the mall.
That means I will come to the place where you are first, and then we will go to
the mall together.
I can pick you up.
Or you can ask someone, "Can you pick me up before work today?" So this is a
little different from picking up your room.
Actually, it's very different.
You learned those words earlier.
When you pick up your room, you make it nice and neat.
But here, when you pick up someone, that means you are going to take them
somewhere.
Right now it's time for us to take you to Ginger and the Monkey Man.
Look! I am painting a picture.
Oh. That's very um, special.
Yeah. I want to put it in the art museum.
Uh, Ginger, you can't put your picture in the art museum.
Yes, I can.
What is the art museum for?
The art museum is for beautiful art.
Does it have paintings?
Yes, it has many paintings.
And I have a painting.
I want to put it in the art museum.
But the art museum is for special paintings.
My painting is special.
Uh, your painting is too special.
Too special?
Yeah. Let's just keep it here in the Jungle Cafe.
Oh yeah! Then we can see it all the time.
Hmm.
Good idea.
That's very special.
All right, friends, let's review those key words.
The first one is: weekend.
Say it again.
weekend.
Nice job.
Ron works Monday to Friday.
He doesn't work on weekends.
plan.
plan.
Let's make plans for Friday night. Let's do something fun!
line.
line.
There's a long line outside the building. Many people are waiting.
meet.
meet.
Meet me at the mall at 7:00.
pick up.
pick up.
Jeff can pick up Betsy tomorrow.
They can go to the party together.
Well, you're doing a great job, friends.
Right now let's take abreak.
