Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our show.
My name is Andrea.
And I am Gabe.
And I'm glad you could join us here at LTE TV.
It is the beginning of a new month.
And we have a new lesson just for you.
Today's lesson is: We Need Office Supplies!
That's right, We Need Office Supplies!
But maybe you don't work at an office.
Maybe you go to school.
Maybe you need some school supplies.
Supplies are things that you use, like markers, erasers, tape, notebooks,
glue...
But wait, what do these words mean - marker, eraser, tape, notebook, glue?
Well, those are today's key words.
You will find out all about them and more.
Let's begin with Conversation A.
Hi, Susie. Do you have any pencils?
Sure. I have some on my desk.
Thanks. I can't find any pencils in the supply drawer.
Really? There are always pencils in there.
There aren't any there now.
There aren't any pens or markers in the drawer, either.
Then we need more.
OK. Let's make a list.
We need several things.
Let's make a list.
We need several things.
Hello, friends.
Do you ever like to make lists?
You can use a pen or a pencil or maybe a marker to make a list of something.
What kinds of lists can you make?
Andrea, do you like to make lists?
I like to make lists.
I like to make a to-do list.
Hmm, that's good.
Now this is a list of all the things that I need to do.
Maybe I make a to-do list for a week.
So by the end of the week, I want everything checked off of my list.
Or maybe you are going shopping, and you can make a list of the things you will
buy - a shopping list.
Well, I have a marker right here.
"Marker" is a key word.
And marker is something that you can use to write with.
A marker.
There are different kinds of markers.
You can use a special kind of marker called a whiteboard marker to write on the
whiteboard in your classroom.
This will come off.
You can erase that kind of marker.
I like to use colored markers to decorate cards and gifts for people.
I have a box full of many different colors.
I like to use colored markers.
And like Gabe said, there are different markers.
There are thick ones and thin ones.
But be careful when you use a marker.
You don't want to get the ink on your clothes.
That's right.
And if you are working in an office, maybe you need to make a list of some
supplies, just like Lily and Susie are doing.
They need several things, like markers.
Well, we need to continue learning with Conversation B.
Let's see what's going on there.
We can make the list on my phone.
Put pencils, pens and markers on the list.
OK. What other office supplies do we need?
We need more erasers.
Really? Amber ordered erasers last month.
There aren't any in the supply drawer!
Then let's order more.
I need tape, too.
Pencils, pens and markers are on the list.
In Conversation B, we see some more things that are on the list.
Lily says, "We need more erasers." And we need to talk about that key word.
eraser.
eraser.
You often see a small eraser at the top of a pencil.
If you are writing or drawing with a pencil and you make a mistake, the eraser
can take the mistake away.
But of course, erasers are not always just on the top of pencils. Are they,
Gabe?
That's right.
Like I was talking about before, if you have a whiteboard marker, you can also
have a whiteboard eraser.
It's a bigger kind of eraser.
And you use it to erase things from the whiteboard.
Your teacher might ask you: Please erase what is on the board.
I need to write some new things down for our lesson.
So erasers are on the list.
And tape is also going to go on that list.
"Tape" is a key word.
You use tape to put things together.
You might use tape to put two pieces of paper together.
Or you can use tape to wrap a gift.
And there are many different kinds of tape.
I have some tape right here.
It has two sides.
That means both sides are sticky.
That's one kind of tape.
Another kind is duct tape.
You can use duct tape to fix many things.
Usually it's gray.
Or you might have some clear tape.
Or maybe there's a special kind of tape that you can use to put on your skin...
Wow, Gabe, Gabe, you are...
... Microphones and I a clear tape...
You are talking a lot.
Can I... can I have your tape?
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, go ahead.
Yeah, thank you.
Well, I'm just going to tape your mouth shut.
What?
Here you go. Yeah.
OK, there you go.
Maybe Gabe needs a little more tape.
I'll just put another piece of tape right there.
OK. It's OK.
All right. Now it is time for us to learn more together.
Let's go to Conversation C.
Oh! I also need tape.
OK. We need a lot of supplies!
We do.
I helped my sister with her school supply list yesterday.
Oh! She is going back to school soon!
What supplies does she need?
She needs pencils, notebooks and glue.
Oh! I need some more notebooks, too.
Put those on the list!
So they need to add more to their list.
Gabe, what do they need to add?
OK, Gabe, let me take the tape off your mouth.
OK, there you go.
Thank you, Andrea.
Andrea, they need to add things like pencils and notebooks and glue to their
list.
That's right.
And I just happen to have a notebook here with me.
A notebook is a book that you can write things in.
As a student, it's good to have a notebook when you are in class.
And you can write down things that your teacher is saying that you want to
remember.
What kinds of things do you write in your notebooks?
Maybe you have a different notebook for each class.
Can I see what you wrote in your notebook?
Well sure, Gabe. Here's my notebook.
You can take a look.
Oh yes, very nice. Oh, good.
Wow, these are very big pages.
You know, it would be fun if I glued these pages together with some glue.
Friends, I have some glue right here.
This is one of our key words.
glue.
It's kind of like tape.
It makes things stick together.
But it's wet.
It feels wet, but then it becomes dry very quickly.
glue.
glue.
Gabe, I don't think you should use the glue to glue uh, pages of my notebook
together.
So you can use that word as a verb as well.
You use glue to glue things together.
So why don't you glue something else together with your glue?
Well Andrea, actually, this is very special glue.
You see, I put super glue in this bottle.
And I want to glue something.
I want to... I know what I would glue.
I will glue my hands together.
That is a great idea.
All right, let's see. Here.
Here we go.
Uh oh! Uh oh!
Uh oh.
Well, now it's time for us to go and see the Monkey Man and Ginger.
Gabe...
Ginger, let's make a list of the things we need.
Good idea! Then we'll know what to buy.
Right.
OK, I'll need a pencil and some paper.
But we don't have pencils, and we don't have paper.
Put those on the list.
Well, I can't make a list because I don't have a pencil or any paper.
Yes, you can.
Susie used her cell phone.
You can do that.
I can't use Susie's cell phone.
Susie's using it.
You can use your cell phone.
Oh, yeah. Good idea.
OK. Let's see.
We need pencils and paper.
Yeah. What else?
Hmm, we need some erasers, tape, notebooks and glue.
Anything else?
Bananas!
You always say: bananas.
That's right. Put bananas at the top of the list.
OK, OK, bananas.
Hello again, friends.
Now let's review our key words.
marker.
marker.
The teacher checks the students' homework with a red marker.
The next key word is: eraser.
eraser.
There are some mistakes in my homework. I need an eraser.
tape.
tape.
Put some tape on the paper. Then put the paper on the wall.
notebook.
notebook.
Megan writes her homework in her notebook.
And glue.
glue.
The child puts glue on the paper.
And yes, teacher Gabe did put glue on his hands.
And now he needs to wash his hands so that they don't stick together anymore.
Right now let's take a break... I needto!
