Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone. My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
And welcome to LTE TV.
Today we're talking about the bus.
That's right, The Bus.
The wheels on the bus go round and round.
That is from a song, a song that little children sing about the bus.
You can learn that song too.
But today we're going to talk about the bus.
You are going to learn different key words, like how to get somewhere, or when
to take the bus, and about different bus stations.
Of course, if you are on a bus, that is called a bus ride.
So "different, get, take, station, ride," these are different key words that you
will learn today.
Are you excited?
Good. Let's get on the bus.
Open our magazines and go to Conversation A.
Are you enjoying your summer, Lily?
Yes! I go on lots of short trips during the summer!
Fun! Where do you go?
I go to different places.
Sometimes I go to Fairview or Riverside.
Those are nice cities.
Fairview has great restaurants.
And Riverside has great shops!
How do you get there?
I take a bus!
Ah, she takes a bus.
Well, Ken and Lily are talking in this conversation.
At the beginning of the conversation, Ken asks a question:
Are you enjoying your summer, Lily?
Are you enjoying your summer?
Are you enjoying doing something?
Well, I see you are eating a delicious meal.
Are you enjoying your meal?
You're reading a book.
Are you enjoying that book?
Andrea, do you have another sentence for us?
Well, yes.
Many of you are watching our show right now.
Are you enjoying today's show?
Well, we hope you are.
Another question you can ask is: Are you enjoying that book?
If you see someone reading a book and want to know if it is a good book or not,
you can ask: Are you enjoying that book?
Are you enjoying your vacation?
Are you enjoying your summer, Lily?
Well, we found out that Lily goes to different places during the summer.
She likes to go on short trips to different places.
"Different" is our key word.
If something is different, it's not the same.
It's different.
So Lily doesn't go to the same place.
She goes to different places.
She tells us that she goes to Fairview or Riverside.
Fairview and Riverside are the names of two cities.
That's right.
I ate something different for lunch today.
Usually I have a hamburger for lunch.
But today I had a cheeseburger.
It was different.
It was different. That is true.
Carrie usually always wears black.
But today she is wearing something different.
She is wearing a pink shirt.
Interesting.
A pink shirt. That is different from black.
Well friends, we do have some different key words we want to talk about.
Yes, the next one is "get." Ken asked:
"How do you get there?" So "get" means to arrive.
How do you go somewhere?
How do you get there?
What transportation do you use?
How do you get there?
What time will you get to the party?
That means what time will you arrive at the party?
You can say, "I hope to get to the party on time." I hope I arrive... I hope I
am at the party on time.
Well, I hope that you get there on time.
That's right.
Or you could say, "I got to the party on time," if it happened before.
I got to the party on time.
Or I got to the party late.
Well, we have another key word here.
It is "take." I take a bus.
When you take a bus, or when you take a train or take a taxi,
that means you are riding on the bus, riding on the train, or riding in the
taxi.
You take a bus.
So how do you get to school?
Do you take a bus, or do you take a taxi?
Try to use today's key words in your own way.
Now let us continue with Conversation B.
A bus? I never take a bus to another city.
Really? Why not?
I usually drive my car to other cities.
Try the bus sometime. It's fun.
Why? What's so great about the bus?
It's convenient.
On the bus, I don't worry about anything.
Someone else drives!
That is nice.
And the bus station is not far from my house.
That's convenient too.
What's so great about the bus?
We see this question in Conversation B.
Ken asks, "What's so great about the bus?" He wants to know good things about
taking the bus.
So what's so great about the bus?
What does Lily say?
Well, Lily says it is convenient.
She doesn't have to worry about anything.
She can just sit there because someone else is driving.
Well, that does sound pretty great.
Let's see if we can use this question in some other ways.
You like the food at the new restaurant?
Well, what's so great about the food?
What's so great about that book?
I read it, and I didn't like it.
What's so great about that book?
What's so great about that movie?
It's so popular.
Everyone is going to see it.
But what's so great about that movie?
Well, another great thing about taking the bus for Lily is that the bus station
is not far from her house.
Let's talk about this key word.
station.
Now when you take the bus to get to a place, you often go to the bus station
first.
It's the place where all the buses wait to take passengers to different cities.
You can usually buy a ticket at the bus station, and then wait for your bus.
So buses have stations.
Trains have train stations.
In my city, there are MRTs.
We go to the MRT station.
But if you're talking about an airplane or a ship, they don't have stations.
An airplane goes to an airport.
And a ship goes to a port or a dock.
So you use the word "station" to talk about buses, trains, or different kinds of
subways.
That is true.
Well friends, thank you for joining us.
And what's so great about the next conversation?
Well, you will see some more things to learn.
You will see another key word and some great sentence patterns that you can use
in a conversation.
So here is Conversation C.
Are the tickets cheap?
Yes! The prices are good!
Even round-trip tickets are cheap.
Do you enjoy bus rides?
Yes! I can rest or read.
Are the seats comfortable?
Yes, they are.
Interesting.
Maybe I can take the bus to Fairview soon.
Great! Just buy a ticket online!
Well, Ken's question at the beginning of this conversation is: Are the tickets
cheap?
And Lily says even round-trip tickets are cheap.
Even round-trip tickets are cheap.
Andrea, what is a round-trip ticket?
Well, a round-trip ticket takes you from the bus station to the place you want
to go.
So maybe to another city.
Mmhm.
And then it takes you from that city back to the bus station.
It's a round trip.
So basically, it is two tickets.
That's right.
And round-trip tickets are often cheaper than buying two different tickets.
Welll, you can take a trip somewhere by bus, and that could be a round-trip
ticket.
Or maybe you're taking an airplane, and you buy a round-trip ticket on an
airplane.
Well, we do have a key word here in this conversation.
It is the word "ride." That's right.
Ken says, "Do you enjoy bus rides?" Now this is a little different from the
rides at an amusement park.
When you're on a bus and you're going somewhere, that is called the bus ride.
Yes. So you can ask: How long is the bus ride?
Or, how long will the ride take?
It is a three-hour ride to get to the city.
Oh, that's a long ride!
Or, it's a short ride - only five minutes.
Well friends, you're doing a great job.
Right now it's time for us to continue and learn something with the Monkey Man
and Ginger.
Here we go.
Ooh, I want to take a trip this summer.
That's a great idea!
We could go to Fairview.
Hooray! How will we get there?
Well, we can take the bus.
The bus?
Yeah.
We never take the bus to another city.
Well, we're going to try it because it's a lot of fun.
What's so great about the bus?
Lots of things!
It's convenient.
And you don't have to worry about anything.
You don't?
Nope. Someone else drives.
Ooh, that's nice.
Hmm. And bus tickets are cheap.
And the bus is very comfortable.
Hooray! Hooray! I want to take the bus.
Hmm. Yeah.
Oh, wait. Too bad.
Uh, monkeys aren't allowed on the bus.
Oh no. Let's drive. Can I drive?
Good idea.
Can I drive?
Hi, friends.
Now it's time to review these key words.
The first one is: different.
Say it again.
different.
These books are different. One is red and one is blue.
get.
get.
What time did Mia get to the city?
take.
take.
Roger takes a bus to work every day.
station.
station.
There are lots of buses at the bus station.
ride.
ride.
I like car rides more than bus rides.
Well, what about you?
Which one do you like more?
Right now it's time for us to take a break.
But we will see yousoon.
