Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone. My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
Now today we're talking about somewhere special.
That's right, the post office.
Do you ever go to the post office?
This is a good place.
Do you know where the nearest post office is?
You should, if you ever want to mail something to somebody.
Maybe you have something you want to mail to your family, or you want to mail it
to your friends.
Maybe it's something big and you can put it in a box.
But you need a stamp when you go to the post office, if you want to mail
something.
But post office, mail, box and stamp.
What do these words mean?
Today you will find out.
Pay attention.
Right now we're going to start in Conversation A.
Susie, do you want to have lunch with me today?
I'm going out for Chinese food.
I can't today.
I'm going to the post office to mail some things.
Can't you just put them in the mailbox near the TV station?
There is one just down the street.
I can't. I need to mail a package.
Well friends, at the beginning of this conversation, Rob has a question:
Do you want to have lunch with me today?
Do you want to have a meal with me today?
You can ask another kind of question.
Do you want to have breakfast with me today?
Do you want to have coffee with me today?
Do you want to have tea with me today?
Do you want to take a break with me today?
That sounds great.
Do you want to have lunch with me today?
Rob is going out for Chinese food.
I do like Chinese food.
But Susie says she is going to the post office to mail some things.
post office.
This is one of our key words.
A post office is where you take your mail to send to another place.
Or you can go and pick up some things at a post office if someone else sent
something to you.
If you get a package in the mail, you usually have to go to the post office to
pick it up.
Now some people get a package delivered to their home.
But some people have to go to the post office to pick it up.
Or if you want to mail a package, you can also go to the post office.
If you want to mail a package.
"Mail" is our next key word.
When you mail something, that means it's going from you and your house and city
to another place.
You are sending it to someone else.
So what kind of things can you mail?
Well, we talked about a package.
You can mail a package.
You can mail a letter.
You can mail a birthday card to a friend.
Or you can just mail a gift to someone and surprise them.
That's a great idea.
You can surprise someone.
Mail them a package for their birthday or some other special day.
That's true.
You know, today people usually use e-mail to send things.
You can send an e-card.
But it's still nice to get something in the mail.
I think so too.
I love getting things in the mail.
So think about that.
Who can you send something to?
Who can you mail a letter or a card to?
Well, later Rob says there is a mailbox near the TV station just down the
street.
If something is down the street, that means it's on the same street, and you
just have to walk or drive a little ways.
Right. It's just down the street.
That means it's not very far.
Just keep walking on the street, and you will see it.
Well, we will see more key words and things to talk about now in Conversation B.
I see. Is it a big package?
Yes, it is. And I don't have a box yet!
You can get one at the post office.
There are many sizes of boxes there.
Yes, and I need a big box!
I'm mailing something to my brother for his birthday.
Fun!
Everyone loves mail on their birthday!
Hello again, friends.
Well, I have a box right here.
It's a nice, big, yellow box.
Now Andrea, I would like you to guess what is inside of this box.
Ooh, what is inside of the box?
Hmm, is there a puppy in the box?
Um, no, there's no puppy in this box.
Is there something to eat in the box, like a big chocolate cake?
Um, no, there's nothing to eat inside this box.
I'll give you one more guess, Andrea.
OK. Is there money in the box?
Um, no. Sorry. Uh, there's no money in the box.
Andrea, close your eyes.
OK.
Hold out a hand.
Uh... OK.
Here it is.
OK, open your eyes.
It's a box.
It's a box.
Yeah.
Gabe, you put a box in the box?
Well, yeah. Why not?
There was room for a box in this big box.
But that's not very exciting.
Oh.
I don't want a box.
I'm sorry.
Well friends, we do need to talk about this key word.
It is the word "box." It's an exciting word, isn't it?
Well, yes, a box can be exciting.
A box has six sides and then space inside.
You can put a gift in a box and give it to a friend.
Or you can just keep things in a box.
That's right, you can keep things inside your box.
Andrea, could you please put the little box back inside the big box?
I would be happy to put the little box inside the big box.
Thank you.
We'll save that for the next time we teach the key word "box," many months from
now.
We have one more key word in this conversation.
It is the word "mail." Now you saw that word as a verb before.
Now it is a noun.
Mail is something that you get, you receive from somebody through the mail.
Yes, mail includes cards, letters, packages - things that someone sends you and
you can hold in your hands.
So you can send mail at the post office.
Or you can mail a package to a friend.
And as Rob says, everyone loves mail on their birthday.
So who's having a birthday soon?
Maybe you can mail them some mail for their birthday.
Right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation C.
I love to mail packages.
How about you?
I don't send many packages.
But when I'm on vacation, I send postcards to my friends.
That's fun too.
I'm also mailing some letters today.
So I need to buy stamps at the post office too.
You can buy stamps online.
Did you know that?
Really? Maybe I'll do that next time!
I got some mail, Andrea.
Friends, I got some mail today in the mail.
Wow, Gabe, that's exciting!
You got a piece of mail.
Yeah.
You got a letter, right?
I did. I got a letter.
I think it's from a friend who is getting married.
Oh, how exciting!
Oh.
Someone is getting married.
Yes! Yes, I'm invited to a wedding.
I can't wait!
And let's see. Where is this from?
It's from America.
So it's from a place in the U.S.A.
And it has a nice stamp too.
Wow, that is a very nice stamp on the envelope.
Hey Gabe, do you collect stamps?
Will you keep this stamp?
Well, I don't usually collect stamps.
But that is a very nice stamp.
I might keep this stamp.
I think you should keep that stamp.
And I think we should talk about this key word.
stamp.
A stamp is something that you put on mail that you want to mail.
The stamp shows that you paid the money you need to pay to mail the card or the
package or the letter.
And sometimes a stamp could be big.
Or it could be a small stamp.
Stamps cost different amounts of money.
And some stamps are very nice.
And just like Andrea was saying, some people like to collect stamps.
Do you collect stamps from all over the world?
Well, some people do.
And if you collect stamps over many years, some of those stamps might be worth a
lot of money.
Well, we also saw postcard in our conversation.
You can buy a postcard, put a stamp on the postcard, and send it to your family
or to a friend.
Well, now we are going to review some of what we learned with Monkey Man and
Ginger.
Ginger, do you ever send postcards?
Yes, I send postcards to my favorite monkey.
Hmm. Do you ever send letters?
Yes, I send letters to my favorite monkey too.
Hmm. Do you ever send packages?
Yes, I send packages to my favorite moneky.
Well, that's very sweet.
Yeah, my favorite monkey enjoys getting mail.
Hmm. Hey, look! You got a postcard.
Hooray!
Yep. And you got a letter.
Hooray!
And you received a package.
Hooray! Hooray!
So who sent you all these things?
My favorite monkey - me!
You sent them to yourself?
Yeah, I love getting mail.
Hmm.
Let's review today's key words together.
The first one is: post office.
post office.
You can send letters, postcards and other things at the post office.
mail.
mail.
I'm going to mail this letter to Bev.
box.

Put the toys in the box.

Put a stamp on the envelope before you mail it.

Now let's take a break.
And then we'll be right back.
