Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
Today we're talking about your skin.
Yesterday we talked about your eyes.
The title of today's lesson is: Your Skin.
That's right. Each of us has skin.
It is what gives you your sense of touch.
Or you use your skin to feel the sense of touch.
And your skin can heal itself.
Sometimes your skin might be wet, other... times, it might be dry.
Sometimes you might use an umbrella to protect your skin from the sun.
Well friends, sense, touch, heal, dry, umbrella.
What do these words mean?
Today you will learn all about them.
Let's start with Conversation A.
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Our guest for today is Dr. Simon Skin.
Let's welcome him.
Dr. Simon Skin, tell me something interesting about skin.
Skin covers and protects the body.
Skin is the body's largest organ.
Interesting!
When I think about skin, I often think about the sense of touch.
That's right. Our skin allows us to feel things.
What else does skin do?
It keeps our bodies at the right temperature.
Our skin can heal itself quickly too!
Well, I'm learning a lot with this doctor here on the show.
And we're going to learn three key words here, friends.
The first one is "sense." Your sense is something that you can feel or tell,
something that you know.
Now there are five senses.
You can feel with the sense of touch.
Or you can smell with the sense of smell.
You can taste things through the sense of taste.
What other senses are there, Andrea?
Well, sight is a sense.
You can see things with the sense of sight.
And hearing is also a sense.
We hear things with the sense of hearing.
That's right. So we have five senses.
And we're learning about one of these senses today - touch.
It's another key word.
The sense of touch.
This is how you feel things by touching them.
So you can use this word as a verb or as a noun.
We all have the sense of touch.
In our conversation, we learned that our skin allows us to feel things.
And Dr. Skin told us some other interesting things about our skin.
Our skin can also heal itself quickly.
It can heal itself.
"Heal" is one of our key words.
If something heals, that means it gets better.
Maybe you were sick, but you healed.
You got better.
Now your skin can heal itself quickly.
That means it gets better all by itself.
It doesn't need medicine or a doctor or anything special.
It can heal all by itself.
Wow! Our skin is pretty amazing.
Now sometimes we do put things on our skin to help us heal more quickly.
Right.
But our skin is just made in such a fantastic way.
It is fantastic.
And friends, Conversation B is also very fantastic.
Let's go there now.
Our skin does a lot for us.
How can we protect our skin?
Wash your skin well every day.
Clean skin is healthy skin.
What are some common skin problems?
Many people have dry skin.
Sometimes soap can make people's skin even drier.
Lotion can help with this.
How can people protect their skin from the sun?
Wear sunscreen!
Hats and umbrellas also help.
One common skin problem is that many people have dry skin.
Now if something is common, that means it happens to many people.
So yes, many people get dry skin.
Let's talk about this key word.
dry.
If something is dry, that means it does not have water in it.
When our skin is too dry, that means it needs water, or it needs something to
help make it not dry.
So your skin can become very dry.
My skin gets dry especially in the winter.
Other things can be dry.
The clothes were wet.
But now they are dry.
You need a dry towel after you get out of the shower.
Sometimes the inside of my mouth feels dry, especially when I'm nervous about
something or I have a speech.
The inside of my mouth might feel dry.
Well, then you should drink some water.
Mmhm.
Yes, and if your skin is dry, you can use lotion.
It's like a cream that you put on your skin.
And it helps your skin feel better.
But you can also drink water.
That helps your skin feel better.
And then your skin is not as dry.
We have another key word here.
And it is "umbrella." Now you use an umbrella to protect yourself.
You can use an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun or from rain.
And I have an umbrella right here.
I can open my umbrella or close my umbrella.
And if it's raining, I can take my umbrella with me.
Yes. And don't forget your umbrella if it is raining outside.
Now get ready for today's Read It.
Your skin is your body's largest organ.
It covers your body and keeps it at the right temperature.
Your skin gives you your sense of touch.
It helps you to feel things.
Your skin can also heal itself quickly.
Your skin protects you, so you should protect it too.
Wash your skin with soap and warm water each day.
Use lotion when your skin is dry.
Protect your skin from the sun with sunscreen, a hat or an umbrella.
That's right, your skin protects you, so you should protect your skin too.
Protect.
We saw this word a lot in this paragraph.
What does that word mean?
If you protect something, that means you take care of it.
You make sure that nothing bad happens to it.
You protect it.
Yes. Parents protect their children.
They make sure their children have everything that they need, and that nothing
bad happens to them.
Parents protect their children.
Now friends, it's time for us to continue.
Let's go and see what the Monkey Man and Ginger have to say.
Oh, Monkey Man, you look like a doctor again today.
Well Ginger, today I want to check your skin.
My skin? No, no, no!
Ginger, did you know that skin is the body's biggest organ?
Interesting!
Mmhm. And skin allows us to feel things.
Interesting!
Skin also keeps our bodies at the right temperature.
Ooh, interesting!
What else does skin do?
Uh, skin keeps our body together.
Very funny.
Yeah.
Now take off your coat, Ginger.
I want to check your skin.
Hey, this isn't my coat.
It's me!
Oh, yeah.
Now it's time for us to review these key words.
Say them with us.
sense.
sense.
Sight is one of your five senses.
touch.
touch.
We learned about the sense of touch in school today.
heal.
heal.
Tom hurt his foot, but it is healing now.
dry.
dry.
In the winter, my skin is very dry.
And umbrella.
umbrella.
Take an umbrella. It's going to be a rainy day.
Well friends, don't leave the house now.
Don't go outside.
It is time to take a break.
But we will be right back.
