Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
We're glad you could join us for the beginning of a new week and a new lesson.
Today's lesson is called: Let's Go to the Park.
So let's open up our magazines and get started.
We have lots of things to learn today.
We have many key words we want to teach you.
What do you do at a park?
Well, maybe you can take a Frisbee and throw it to your friends at the park.
Maybe you can go and look for frogs in the grass or have a picnic.
But Frisbee, frog, grass, picnic... what do these words mean?
Today you will find out.
Let's get started with Conversation A.
Hey, Lily!
Let's go play Frisbee in the park.
Now?
Sure! Why not?
I'm not a very good Frisbee player.
That's all right.
We can just play for fun.
OK. We can play for a while.
Then let's do something else.
What else can we do?
We can feed the ducks in the pond.
All right.
Well, Ken and Lily are going to go to a park.
What can they do there?
One thing they could do is play Frisbee.
This is one of our key words.
I like to play Frisbee.
I have a Frisbee right here.
It looks kind of like a big plate.
And you can throw it through the air to your friend.
Frisbee is fun to play.
But I'm like Lily.
I'm not a very good Frisbee player.
Now when you are playing Frisbee, then you are a Frisbee player.
And... and I'm not a very good Frisbee player.
You know, that's OK, Andrea.
You just need to practice.
Let's practice right now, OK?
Uh, now?
Yes, right now.
I am going to throw the Frisbee to you, and you can catch it, OK?
Oh, OK.
Here we go. Here we go.
One, two, three, throw.
Yes!
I did it!
You caught the Frisbee.
Well actually, I think I'm a pretty good Frisbee player.
Here you go, Gabe.
Oh, whoa.
Oh.
Thank you. Thank you.
You... you threw the Frisbee pretty hard.
But I caught it.
Good job.
Thank you.
Frisbee can be very fun to play.
You don't have to play it very well.
You can just play for fun.
What do you like to do for fun?
Well, something else you can do at a park is maybe feed some ducks in a pond.
You can do that for a little while.
You can play Frisbee for a little while.
What else can you do for a little while?
Well Andrea, we have another key word in this conversation.
What is it?
It is "while." Now please listen while I explain this key word.
Now when you do one thing for a while, that means you do it for some time.
So if you play Frisbee for a while, then you play Frisbee for some time.
But then you stop and do something else.
That's right.
So we can play Frisbee for a while.
And then we can go and feed some ducks in a pond.
Well earlier, Lily did say that she's not a very good Frisbee player.
This is a good sentence to know.
I'm not a very good something player.
I'm not a very good basketball player.
I'm not a very good volleyball player.
Ooh. I'm not a very good soccer player.
But I do enjoy playing Frisbee.
I'm a good Frisbee player.
Well, that's great.
And even if you're not a very good player at something, you can still just enjoy
it and have fun.
Just play for fun.
Well, we've had a lot of fun with this conversation.
Let's continue having fun with Conversation B.
What can we feed the ducks?
I have some crackers in my desk.
I can take those.
OK. Or we can buy some bread on the way to the park.
So we can play Frisbee and feed the ducks.
We can look for frogs too.
No thanks! I don't like frogs.
And we only have an hour for lunch.
There are many things that you can do at a park.
You can play Frisbee.
You can feed the ducks.
You can just sit and relax.
Or you can look for frogs.
Andrea, you have a frog there with you.
Um, where did you get that frog?
Well, this is just a cute little frog that I found.
I like frogs.
I like to collect them.
Do you think that you will find a frog that looks like this frog at a park?
Hmm, I don't know.
That's a pretty cute frog.
His name is Kermit. Kermit the Frog.
And he is a very nice frog.
But um, no, you can't find frogs that look like him at the park.
Yes, that's true.
Kermit is a popular frog.
Well, our key word is "frog." And a frog is an animal.
Frogs like to jump.
And frogs are often close to water.
So if you are around a pond, you might see some frogs.
And I do like to go looking for frogs.
If I go to some parks, I can see them swimming in the water, or maybe they're
outside of the water.
Sometimes the frogs like to sit in the sun.
And then they go hopping away.
So frogs can jump.
You can also say that frogs hop.
Or another word to use is "leap." A frog can leap.
These are all different words for - jump.
That is true.
Jump, leap, hop.
It's good to remember those words.
Now you can look for frogs at a park.
But did you know that some people also eat frogs?
What? Are you serious, Andrea?
Is that good for you?
Well, actually it is pretty good.
Some people like to eat frog legs or make soup with frogs.
Well, I don't think that Ken and Lily are going to do that.
But I hope that they have a nice lunch break at the park.
It's not time for a break right now.
We need to keep learning with Conversation C.
Let's have a picnic in the park.
I didn't bring a lunch to work.
Neither did I.
So how can we eat lunch in the park?
We can buy a hot dog and sit on the grass and eat it.
I don't like that idea.
Why not?
I don't want just one hot dog.
I want three or four!
Well, Lily and Ken have many different things they can choose to do at a park.
They can play Frisbee.
They can look for ducks or feed ducks in a pond.
They can look for frogs.
Lily also suggests having a picnic at the park.
"Picnic" is one of our key words.
A picnic is a time that you eat somewhere outside, usually at a park or a beach.
You can bring a blanket and your food, and then you can eat outside on the grass
or the sand or somewhere else.
Yes, a picnic.
It's fun to prepare food for a picnic.
You can maybe make some sandwiches and some cookies, and put them together in a
picnic basket.
Then you can take the basket to a park.
And people often like to put a blanket on the grass.
You can sit there and eat and enjoy your picnic.
But Ken did not bring a lunch today.
And Lily didn't bring a lunch either.
So what are they going to do?
They might go out and buy some lunch and eat it on the grass in the park.
"Grass" is a key word.
You see grass in nature all the time.
It's green.
You walk on it.
And sometimes grass can be in your front yard or backyard.
If you have a yard, you can play and run around in the grass.
It's fun to play sports on the grass.
If you play Frisbee on the grass, it's comfortable because you can run.
And even if you fall, it doesn't hurt that much.
That's right.
And of course, you can have a nice picnic lunch in the grass.
Well, Lily says, "We can buy a hot dog and sit on the grass and eat it." Um,
Andrea, does Ken like this idea or not?
He says, "I don't like that idea." I don't like that idea.
He doesn't just want a hot dog.
He doesn't want one hot dog.
He is very hungry.
So how many hot dogs does he want?
He wants three or four hot dogs.
He doesn't want just one hot dog.
He will have three or four hot dogs at their picnic lunch.
Well, that sounds pretty good if you like hot dogs.
Mmhm, that's right. If you like hot dogs and picnics and the grass at a park.
Right now friends, it's time for us to continue.
Let's go and see what the Monkey Man and Ginger are talking about.
Ginger, I have an idea.
Today let's play Frisbee.
We can't. I'm not good at Frisbee.
We can just play for fun.
I can't throw the Frisbee, and I can't catch it.
Oh, right. That's not fun.
Hey, let's go feed the ducks.
We can't. We don't have crackers and we don't have ducks.
Oh, right.
Hey, let's have a picnic.
We can eat outside on the grass.
Ooh. Yeah. Let's have a picnic. Let's eat outside.
But we don't have any food.
Oh, right.
Well, let's just sit here and talk about today's lesson.
We can't. We're out of time.
Oh, right.
OK friends, let's review these key words.
The first one is: Frisbee.
Frisbee.
You throw the Frisbee. I can catch it.
while.
while.
Let's sit here a while.
frog.
frog.
Lots of frogs live in this pond.
picnic.
picnic.
Let's have a picnic by the lake.
grass.
grass.
Green grass covers the hill.
Well, it's not always easy being green.
But it is easy to take a break.
Let's do thatnow.
