Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Saturday show of Let's Talk in English right
here at LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
I'm glad you could join us here today because today is a review day.
Now what did you learn this week?
You learned what you should talk about at a party.
Do you know how to make small talk?
You could ask someone what their interests are, or maybe talk about subjects
that you both like.
You also learned how to talk about what you do in your free time.
Do you like to do puzzles?
Maybe you like puzzles like Sudoku.
Or maybe you like to write in a diary.
Maybe you like to chat online.
Or would you rather do something else?
You also learned how to talk about making sandwiches, which are delicious.
What do you like on your sandwiches: meat, cheese, tomatoes?
What kind of bread do you use to make sandwiches?
Well, along with reviewing our lessons, you will hear all of our key words from
this week.
Let's review right now.
And then soon Ginger and I will be here to ask you some questions.
So pay attention.
Hi, Ken.
Hi, Lily. Are you going to Rob's party on Friday?
No, I can't. I'm busy.
Rob invited a lot of people.
But I don't know many of them.
Then you can meet new people.
What can I talk to them about?
I'm not very good at small talk.
You can talk to them about several things.
Ask about their family, work or school.
That's good. What else?
Ask about their interests.
I can ask, "What do you like to do?".
Sure. Or, "What are you interested in?".
That's good.
Someone might like the same subjects as you.
Then I can talk to that person for a long time.
Have fun on Friday!
Thanks!
You go to a party.
You meet some new people there.
What can you talk about?
You can talk about several subjects.
1. School or work.
Ask, "Where do you go to school?" or "What do you do?".
2. Family.
Say, "Tell me about your family.".
3. Interests.
Ask, "What do you like to do?" or "What are you interested in?".
Hi, Amber. Are you checking e-mail?
Oh, hi, Rob. No, I'm playing chess.
Really? You play chess?
I'm learning. It's a fun game.
It is fun.
But I'd rather do other things.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to read, watch TV and exercise.
I like those things too.
What else do you do in your free time?
I like to chat online or go shopping with friends.
And I like to do Sudoku puzzles.
I like those too.
I also write a lot.
Do you write in a diary?
No, I write on my blog.
That's great.
I also ride my bike and play sports.
I enjoy the theater and concerts and...
How much free time do you have?
What do you like to do in your free time?
Maybe you exercise or play sports.
If you're a social person, you might chat online or go shopping with friends.
Or would you rather spend time alone?
Maybe you listen to music or write in a diary.
Do you play video games or computer games?
How about games like chess, or puzzles like Sudoku?
There are so many ways to spend your free time!
Hey, Ken, what did you bring for lunch today?
A sandwich!
I like sandwiches.
What did you bring for lunch, Rob?
I didn't bring anything.
I can go to the Jungle Cafe for lunch.
Or you can have half of my sandwich.
It's really big.
Why is your sandwich so big?
I made it big!
Did you use bread or a bun for your sandwich?
I used two big pieces of bread.
What's in your sandwich?
First, I put mayo and mustard on the two pieces of bread.
I see.
Then I put beef, ham and pepperoni on it.
You like meat.
Yes, I do.
Did you put anything else on your sandwich?
Of course!
I also put some cheese, tomatoes, onions and lettuce on it.
Wow. That is a big sandwich.
So do you want half of it?
No thanks.
I don't like mustard on my sandwiches.
OK. Then I can eat all of my sandwich!
I'm really hungry!
Carol, remember our party last weekend?
I really liked your dish.
Oh! My sweet and sour hot dogs!
Yes! How do you make them?
They're easy!
You just need three ingredients: grape jam, mustard and hot dogs.
What? Really?
Yes. You mix the jam and mustard in a pot on the stove.
Do you boil it?
No, just make it hot.
Good. I often burn things when I boil them.
I do too.
OK. So what do you do after the jam and mustard are hot?
Just put in the hot dogs and mix.
Great! That is easy!
You could also mix everything together first.
Then put it in the microwave for a few minutes.
That's even easier!
You brought some dumplings to the party.
They were delicious!
Oh. Thanks.
How did you make them?
Did you fry them in a wok?
Uh, no.
Did you steam them?
No, I didn't.
Did you bake them?
Can you bake dumplings?
No, I don't think so.
Well, how did you make them?
I didn't make them. My mom did!
Hi, Rob. Would you like a cookie?
Sure, Susie. I love cookies!
Wait, what were you just eating?
A doughnut. I love doughnuts too.
You've eaten a doughnut every day this week!
I know.
There's a new doughnut shop near my apartment.
Their doughnuts are so good!
Well, here's another treat for your sweet tooth.
Thanks, Susie.
So how's the cookie?
It's great! Did you make these cookies?
Yes. They were easy.
I just stirred sugar, butter, chocolate and other ingredients together.
And then you baked them?
No. They are called "no-bake cookies"!
Well, they're delicious.
Thanks! Hey, I'm making a pie this weekend.
Should I bring you a piece on Monday?
Yes, please! I love desserts!
Do you have a sweet tooth?
If you do, you might enjoy doughnuts for breakfast.
You may eat a cookie for a snack.
And you like pie or cake after dinner.
Do you ever make desserts?
You can mix sugar and butter, and then stir in other ingredients.
It's fun to bake special treats and share them with others.
Just be careful.
If you eat too many sweet treats, you can have health problems.
Hello, everyone. I'm here with Ginger and...
And I'm here with Gabe.
And I want something sweet to eat.
Oh. Well, just remember, Ginger, too many sweet treats could make you have
health problems.
I still want something sweet.
Well uh, let me think about that.
What I want right now is to see how well our friends were listening to the
lessons.
Were you paying attention?
Good. Quiz question number one.
Who was playing chess this week?
Do you know the answer?
I do! I do!
Well um, Ginger, what's the answer?
It's Amber! It's Amber!
Amber was playing chess online.
She likes puzzles.
I like puzzles too.
Well then Ginger, do you have another puzzle for us?
Uh, no. But I have a question.
Oh, that's... that's what I meant.
Well, there's a new shop near Rob's apartment.
What does it sell?
Hmm, a new shop near Rob's apartment.
What does it sell?
I know.
It sells something delicious.
It sells doughnuts.
Yes. And doughnuts are so yummy and they are so sweet.
Yes, they are.
You did a very good job today, Ginger.
So I'm going to give you a special prize.
A doughnut?
No, a banana.
I'm just kidding.
Yes, it's a doughnut just for you.
Yay! I get a doughnut!
And I want a banana too.
Oh. Well uh, let me think about that.
For now, let's take a littlebreak.
