Hello, and welcome to the Saturday Show of Let's Talk in English.
My name is Gabe.
And I'm glad you could join us here for today's review show.
We have a lot to review from this week.
What did we learn?
Well, we talked about making dinner.
When do you eat dumplings for dinner?
And what about spaghetti?
Do you enjoy spaghetti?
These are two different kinds of dinners.
If you are having dinner, it's important to have good table manners.
We also talked about table manners.
There are certain rules that you should follow.
What else did we talk about from this week?
Let's see, eating dinner, table manners... Ah, nurses.
That's right, nurses and doctors.
Do you ever go to the hospital?
Have you ever had an operation?
I hope not.
That sounds painful.
But maybe you have a pet.
Maybe you have a sick pet.
Where do you take this pet?
You take the pet to the vet.
That's right.
So we talked about nurses, doctors and vets - three kinds of people that like to
care for others.
OK. Well, we talked about a lot.
And I hope you pay attention carefully.
Listen because uh, Ginger will be here soon.
And we have some questions just for you.
What are you doing, Amber?
I'm looking for dinner ideas on the Internet.
I'm cooking for my family tonight.
That's great!
What kinds of food do you cook?
Well, my family loves Chinese food.
So I might make dumplings.
That's not easy!
Dumplings are a lot of work.
I know.
You could stir-fry some vegetables with chicken or pork.
I could.
You could make egg drop soup too.
That's Chinese.
My mom doesn't like eggs.
Oh, OK.
You could make rice or noodles!
Maybe I will just makes spaghetti.
I can make a salad too.
That's not Chinese.
I know. But spaghetti is easy!
What do you eat for dinner?
Many people in Asia eat rice, noodles or dumplings.
They enjoy soups too.
Egg drop soup is a popular one.
People in America eat rice and noodles too.
But they also eat foods like pizza, spaghetti and hamburgers for dinner.
Carol, can you help me?
I'm making a list of good and bad table manners.
You are? Why?
I want to teach my younger sister some table manners.
Oh, OK.
Here's one rule: Don't talk with your mouth full.
Yes, I have that one.
Chew with your mouth closed.
And use your napkin to clean your face.
I'll put those on my list too.
I know another rule.
Don't reach across the table.
Right! Ask others to pass you things.
My sister always reaches for things at the dinner table!
And some people pick their teeth at the table.
Oh, that is rude!
I'll tell my sister not to do that!
Will your sister follow these rules?
I hope so!
Good table manners are important.
Follow these rules, and you'll have a great meal.
1. Chew your food with your mouth closed.
2. Don't talk with your mouth full.
3. Don't reach across the table.
Ask someone to pass things to you.
4. Don't pick your teeth at the table.
Go to the bathroom to check your teeth.
5. Use your napkin, not your shirt, to clean your face.
Hi, Susie. Where are you going?
I'm going to the hospital.
Oh! Are you sick?
No. I need to interview a nurse for tomorrow's show.
I see.
Yes. I want more information about nurses.
I don't know much about them.
They help sick people.
Everyone knows that!
I want to know more about their job.
Nurses care for sick people.
Yes. And they help doctors.
Nurses ask sick people questions.
Right. They learn about people's problems.
Nurses check people's temperature too.
Then they tell doctors the information.
Right. And nurses don't only work in hospitals.
They work in clinics, schools and homes too!
Maybe you don't need to go to the hospital, Susie.
You already know a lot about nurses!
You're sick. You go to a clinic or a hospital.
Who do you often talk to first? A nurse!
A nurse checks your temperature.
She asks you some questions too.
Nurses are important.
They help doctors.
They care for sick people.
Nurses work other places besides clinics and hospitals.
They work in schools and homes too.
Ouch! My back hurts!
Why? What did you do to it?
I'm not sure.
Maybe I lifted too many heavy things.
Did you see a doctor?
Not yet.
I have a doctor's appointment after work today.
He can treat it.
Then I'll feel better.
Maybe. Or you might need an operation!
I hope not!
I saw a lot of doctors at the hospital yesterday.
I'm not surprised.
There are a lot of different kinds of doctors.
I know. There is a different doctor for almost every body part!
There are skin doctors, bone doctors, and emergency room doctors.
And there are special doctors for children and old people.
And they all have lots of patients.
And now I'll be one too.
Doctors help sick people.
They treat patients and choose medicine for them.
There are many kinds of doctors.
There are special doctors for children and old people.
Some doctors treat just one part of the body.
There are heart doctors, eye doctors, bone doctors, skin doctors and more!
Some doctors do operations.
Some doctors work in emergency rooms.
Every doctor works hard!
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Today we're talking about animal doctors.
And our special guest is Vance the Vet.
Let's welcome him!
Tell us about your job, Vance!
Do you work at a zoo?
No. I'm a vet at a small-animal hospital.
So your hospital is small?
No. My hospital treats small animals!
I see.
So you help animals like cats, dogs and birds?
Right. I help people's sick pets recover.
That makes people happy, doesn't it?
Yes, it does!
How do you help animals?
Sometimes I give them medicine.
I often use needles so they can get the medicine faster.
I see.
Sometimes I take X-rays.
And I checked animal's blood.
Those things help you know what's wrong with the animal.
Right. And I can cure the animal faster.
Being a vet sounds like a great job.
It is!
A vet is a doctor for animals.
Vets cure animals' diseases.
They use medicine, needles, X-rays and operations to help sick animals recover.
Some vets work at small-animal hospitals.
These vets usually treat people's pets, like cats, dogs and birds.
Other vets treat large animals, like horses and cows.
These vets sometimes travel to farms to help sick animals.
Other vets work at zoos and treat animals like elephants and tigers.
Well hey, everyone.
I'm here with Ginger and...
And I'm here with Gabe.
Yes, she's here with me.
And we have some questions for you.
The first one is: How should you chew... your food?
With your mouth open or closed?
Hmm, how do I chew my bananas?
With my mouth open!
Uh, Ginger, you do?
Yeah.
Well, the answer is you should chew food with your mouth closed, Ginger.
Oh. Right. Haha.
Here's a question for you.
Number two.
Who will go to the doctor this week because he lifted too many things?
Who will go to the doctor this week because he lifted too many things?
Uh-oh. Do you know the answer?
That's right, Rob.
Rob lifted too many things and hurt his back.
Well, get better, Rob.
Friends, you're doing a great job.
Ginger, what time is it now?
Is it time for a break?
I think it's time for a little break.
Great!
