Welcome back. I'm Gabe.
And I'm still Ginger.
Still Ginger.
And it is about time to review our features from this week.
Yeah. One of the features was the Word Brothers.
They are so cute!
Well, were you listening this week?
What words did they talk about, Ginger?
I was listening.
I was listening.
The words were one, O-N-E, and won, W-O-N-E... Oh, W-O-N.
Very, very good. W-O-N.
Well, let me use one in a sentence, Ginger.
Hey, you just did.
I just did use one?
What do you mean?
You said: Let me use "one" in a sentence.
Hey, you're right! I did use one of the words.
Well friends, let's review our features beginning with...
The Word Brothers.
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We're...
The Word Brothers.
We're similar.
But very different.
Yes, just like some English words.
For example, won, W-O-N.
And one, O-N-E.
These two words sound similar.
But they are very different.
"Won," W-O-N, is a form of "win." To win means to be the best at something.
Uh huh. Jim likes to win a lot.
People win games and contests.
So when do we use "won," W-O-N?
Well, if the game or the contest is over and you are the winner, then we say you
won.
Yeah, you won. Yay!
Now won, W-O-N, sounds like one, O-N-E.
But the two words are very different.
Right. I think you know the word "one," O-N-E.
One, O-N-E, is a number.
One is the first number you count.
Right. We say one, two, three, four, five...
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
I have one nose and one mouth.
Yes. Jim and I have one mother and one father.
Right, we don't have any other mothers or fathers.
Right. And I have one brother, and I love him very much.
Thanks. Tim, I uh... love you too.
You do? Yay!
Can I borrow your MP3 player?
Uh, no.
Well, why not?
I only have one, and I want to use it.
Well, fine then.
OK, friends, one.
And won.
Can you see the difference?
Good. Until next time, this is Jim.
And Tim saying...
Goodbye.
Hi, friends. I'm the Black Pearl with DJ Prince and teacher Gabe.
Oh, yeah.
Let's play Sing and Say.
Sing and Say. How do we play?
Let me see. Well...
When you hear me sing and say.
You try to sound the same.
Say these words again today.
That's how you play the game.
Sing and Say.
OK.
couch. Say it.
couch.
couch. Sing it.
couch.
I need a new couch. Sing.
I need a new couch.
television. Sing.
television.
television. Say it.
television.
We can watch television. Sing it.
We can watch television.
Yeah.
We can watch television. Say it.
We can watch television.
piano... Sing.
paino.
Ooh, your piano sounds good.
Oh, thank you, thank you.
I can play piano. Sing it.
I can play piano.
I can play piano. Say it.
I can play paino.
Good.
snack. Sing it.
snack.
I like eating snacks. Oh, yeah. Sing it.
I like eating snacks. Oh, yeah.
Put drinks on the table. Say it.
Put drinks on the table.
That's it.
That's it. That's it...
(Music).
I'm Martha. I'm your waitress.
What do you want?
Hi, Martha. What do you have?
We have eggs.
We have eggs and tuna, eggs and toast, eggs and orange, eggs and bacon...
Wait! Wait. That's a lot of eggs.
Don't interrupt.
The special for today is egg soup.
So what do you want?
Well, do you have anything... Do you have...
I need a super sentence!
And you will have a super sentence.
I am Super Sentence Man.
And the super sentence for today is this:
What can you do besides something?
Like this:
What can you eat here besides eggs?
What can you eat here besides eggs?
Excellent!
Now can you give me one of your own super sentences?
What can you play besides baseball?
What can you play besides baseball?
Excellent!
Now what about you, Martha the waitress?
What can you do besides give super sentences?
What can you do besides give super sentences?
A super question.
Now Robert, what sentence do you need for your waitress?
What can you eat here besides eggs?
Well, what do you want?
Maybe a sandwich.
Oh, sure! We have sandwiches.
Yes!
And that is how you use a super sentence.
Remember, a super sentence every day will make your English great.
One egg sandwich.
Egg sandwich?
